Clinton still millions in debt
CHICAGO, Illinois (CNN) - A source tells CNN that Barack Obama's presidential campaign raised $800,000 to help pay down Senator Hillary Clinton's debt from her bid for Democratic presidential nomination.
An aide to Clinton says that the Senator from New York has $7.6 million in debt remaining from her primary campaign. Clinton was over $20 million in the red after she gave up her campaign and endorsed Obama following the end of the primary season in early June. About half of that figure was money she owed herself after loaning her own campaign over $12 million dollars.
An aide to the president-elect says that the Obama campaign will disclose how much money they have left over from their run for the White House when the campaign files a financial report with the Federal Election Commission on December 4.

I still don't get why OBAMA has to help Hillary pay off debt that HER CAMPAIGN incurred while SHE was running, especially when she and Bill are MILLIONAIRES. Is this Sec. of State thing like some consolation prize? Oh, we can't give you the money, but here's a top cabinet post? I know Pres. Elect Obama is not that foolish, but apparently he feels the need to remunerate her for HER failure. Don't get it, never will. Glad to see Holder appointed as AG, at least.
Hillary made a bad decision she should have stop way before she got herself in debt..... not another bail out! I agree with David. "Lend" is the verb, and "loan" is the noun. It's much cleaner and flows better too.
I also agree with the posters who say this is Clinton's own responsibility. It was her choice to run and to mismanage her campaign finances. If she *lent* herself money she should not expect to get that back. When Corzine, Bloomberg, and Perot self-finance, it would be such a boondoggle to expect taxpayers, supporters, and even their opponents to reimburse them. Why is HRC so different?
And finally, what will it say about HRC-style feminism if the first woman with a serious shot at the Democratic nomination will have to be bailed out by her male opponent? You can't cry sexism on the one hand and then hold out the other hand for charity, expecting the man to fix it for you.

Time to get resourceful and generate income. That's what the rest of us mere mortals do if we have bills to pay and our regular income doesn't cover bases. Here's a few ideas: hit the lecture circuit, write a new book, start a line of ladies pant suits (manufactured in the USA of course), and pick up a little change endorsing Weight Watchers. Maybe like Sarah Palin claims she did: turn to eBay and unload those souvenirs. Read up on Dave Ramsey. Tell Bill to hop to it and fork over his earnings. Sorry, but I have no sympathy for her self inflicted debt.
She'll just ask Bill to go and hand out favors to all of those international friends of theirs, she'll cover it as Sec. of State. Nice change in the Obama administration, sounds more like the same to me.
I think it was exceedingly generous of Barack to help her out at all, considering how she threw everything at him including "the kitchen sink." It goes to show you why we voted for him and why he won. I agree with comments made by several people that had she "thrown in the towel": when even her staff was telling her to, she may not be so indebted, i.e. it was her own fault.
I also think it is exeedingly generous of almost President Obama to offer her the secretary of state job. She should be glad I wasn't the one who one because I'd be offering her a job as a housekeeper in the White House! I'm sure that job pays well, so if she accepts it, part of her income could go to pay off her debt. Also, her huband, gets $300, 000 per speech, so he could help pay off Hilary's debt.
We are talking about a couple who jointly made over 109 million in 10 years, average income per year . . . about 10 million! So why can't she pay off her own debt? And she had the nerve to call Barack Obama an "Elitist" !!!

She could by 4 million gallons of gas, and then wait till summer when the price goes back to $4 per gallon. That should get her about 8 million.

All the millions Obama got from overseas donations and 800,000 is all he could give for Hillary.
Hillary needs to be accountable for her bid. The fact that she did not run it successfully when it was a slam dunk to win should make it clear that she was not capable of running a country. And with that said, it is her debt. Many of the campaigns used thier own money and ended up loosing.
I am curious if she paid off her loans personal loans first or if she took care of the businesses first.

i agree with many notes above in that clinton created her debt by thinking she 'of course' was going to win –
to not pay her vendors, to not pay her rented offices; yea, i want her in government, she doesn't think past her face in the mirror!
