(CNN) - It's taken more than two weeks, but we finally have a winner in Missouri.
Fifteen days after Election Day, Republican Sen. John McCain has narrowly edged out President-elect Barack Obama in the state, according to CNN's review of the latest unofficial vote totals from the Missouri Secretary of State. This resolves the final outstanding contest of the 2008 presidential race.
According to the unofficial results, McCain won the state by 3,632 votes . The unofficial count shows McCain with 1,445,812 votes, or 49.4 percent, and Obama with 1,442,180 votes, or 49.3 percent.
With Missouri's 11 electoral votes in Senator McCain's column, the final count is 365 for Obama and 173 for McCain.
McCain's edging out of Obama in Missouri breaks the state's bellwether streak in which Missourians correctly picked the presidential candiate in every election dating back to the 1960 contest. Missouri got it wrong in 1956, voting for the Democratic challenger Adlai Stevenson, who lost the election to President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Before that election, Missouri correctly picked the winner in every race for the White House dating back to 1904.

Guess Missouri gained a few more dummies this year.
Congratulations Mccain!!
Good Lord! What did Missouri use, smoke signals!
Bye Bye Budweiser
Very strange!!!
1904-1956 = 52 years
1956-2008 = 52 years
WHO CARES IT WAS STILL A LANDSLIDE!
okay it is a start let's recount all the states....
I think Obama should order a re-count. hahahaha. Congrats to John McCain for picking up a state two weeks after the election..and Obama still won.
If that's correct, then it at least means that Missouri backs the loser once every 52 years. 1904 to 1956 to 2008 are each 52-year intervals.
Missouri always picks the Presidential winner. This year Missouri picked the correct President; he just did not win. This is a BAD Omen for Obama who is already in deep trouble with his picks of former Clinton folks and has been Dems who have been in DC for decades.
The only change we will see in Washington is changing Obama from a free thinker to a Dem stinker
Missouri can begin to reclaim its bellweather status four years from now when the nation re-elects Obama by an even greater landslide.
MIssouri got it right – the rest of the states voting for Obama got it wrong. Time will tell if the Missours was correct, but early returns suggest that there is no change coming to Washington with Obama – just tax and spend and more of the same -- I look for the Republicans to regain control of the Senate in the mid term elections and that will effectively end Obama's initiatives cold.
Missouri sucks, they are the worst at counting their ballots and never come through for Dems. Screw them.
Who cares
who cares, a win is a win!
An apparent Obama supporter wrote "bye bye Budweiser." Why? It's not as though Sen. McCain won Belgium.
Congratulations to McCain now he can set his sites on using his bipatisian skills and help President Elect-Obama close Guantorture more.
It's official – Missourians with advanced brain cells outnumber those that don't by 3,632.
Congratulations, Senator. At least there's one state that knows when it's being sold a false bill of goods.
Your math is incorrect. Since they didn't pick the winner in 1956 you can not include those 4 years between then and 1960.
So,
1904 – 1956 = 52
1960 – 2008 = 48
Dems managed to win the governorship though.
I thought they backed the loser in 1924. Also this is the 1st time since 1820 a democrat has been elected President w/o Missouri.
Missouri still picked the winner.., just not the president.
I had high hopes for my home state this year. But once again, Missouri sides with Dixie.
Missouri got it wrong in my opinion, but showed they are more fanatical and right wing than I thought! Congratulations to the new President Elect!!!
Oh my gosh !!!
and the man still lost .
