(CNN) - It’s the ultimate holiday photo-op for any governor: the yearly pardoning of a turkey to spare it from demise days before Thanksgiving.
But former Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin is causing a stir for an interview she gave after pardoning an Alaska turkey Thursday, during which one bird was being slaughtered in the background.
Palin appeared unaware of what was going on directly behind her, though she did seem to take a glance at the unfortunate event at one particular point during the interview.
"It's nice to support a local business and just participate in something that isn't so heavy handed politics that invites criticism," Palin said during the interview. "Certainly will probably invite criticism for even doing this too, but at least it was fun."
"I am always in charge of the turkey so I am where I need to be today to prepare for that," she also said.

I thank God every day that this woman didn't get elected for vice president!!!
I saw the interview.
The turkey wasn't the only thing being slaughtered......she murders the english language every time she opens her mouth.
A true turkey knows a turkey when they see one,I heard her gobble on and on during this speech.Thank goodness shes gone.
Sarah will do anything to get into the spotlight and being unaware is certainly her trademark.
Give it a break lady and just go away!
This is one lady I do not get, nor do I understand her.
bet she wishes the RNC could have bought her a real burberry scarf to keep... sad
"It's nice to support a local business and just participate in something that isn't so heavy handed politics that invites criticism," - what happened to the pitbull? Oh, yeah, that was just an act.
"I am always in charge of the turkey," - what governing is really all about. Why did people ask her so many stupid questions when she was running for VP? She knows how to do a photo shoot, people.
Really CNN? This is news? It's a week before Thanksgiving and people eat turkeys. In order for that to occur, turkeys have to be killed.
Can we just stop talking about Sarah Palin? Please?
I don't know where to start with this one.
I watched the interview on MSNBC Countdown, they fuzzed out the image of the turkey being decapitated while held upside down to let it bleed out, while Palin blathered on in the forground.
What were her media advisers thinking? While it is real life (and death) on the turkey farm, why did they let the interview go to broadcast, since it wasn't a particularly intelligent interview?
Oh yeah, it's Sarah Palin, gotta fill the airwaves with her face and voice.
We are witnessing the worst post-election selloff of the stockmarket and Palin is STILL getting bad press. Where are the stories of the stockmarket (beginning Nov 5th) being shoved throught the grinder. It appears the stock market knows how to spot a socialist better then the mainstream media. Unbiased journalism truly died in America in 2008....
Bet she knew how that turkey in the background felt!!!!
This trailer trash needs to just go away.
"I am always in charge of the turkey so I am where I need to be today to prepare for that."???What? Does she mean she cooks the turkey? Kills the turkey? Who cares?
"Palin appeared unaware of what was going on directly behind her..."
...and in front of her, and all around her, and down the street, and across the country, and around the world....
And this is the "turkey" that the USA almost picked as the person one heartbeat away from being the president!!
Who really cares what she does anyway ???
Beat it already!!!!!
This woman, besides being clueless, requires a translator to decipher her garbled sentences. What a lousy role model.
Its Karma I tell you!! This woman couldn't manage her staff well enough to avoid getting pranked by that Canadian radio station. Now this.
I am soooooo glad she is not helping to run our country. Sarah Palin is her own worst enemy and, given enough time, will destroy her career.
I saw the entire interview last night with the pardon of the turkey and the blood killing of the turkeys behind her in eye shot view. Palin just kept rattling on and noting that she's in charge of the turkey for Thanksgiving this year and that's the reason why she wanted to come to the turkey farm. Right on camera there is this man slaughtering the turkeys and Palin is laughing not phased by the sounds in the background. Just think we came close to this women being Vice-President of the United States with a heart beat away from the Presidency.
My fellow Americans, we elected the right person for the job. Thank You
Gooble gooble gooble!
Could the metaphor be more obvious?
Unbelievable. Imagine how 'un-aware' she is in running her office....
I wish Sarah Palin would go away. She is the perfect example of someone who is egotistical BECAUSE she is super-ignorant. This is the worst kind of person to have in a position of power in any country.
Yep.. Clueless....
And you know that "pardoned" turkey will just get slaughtered tomorrow....
I saw the interview on CNN...how disgusting....at least some of her people should have pulled her coat or either the news camera people....Another reason why this woman should be out he public eye...need I say more!!!
