CHICAGO, Illinois (CNN) - Gov. Bill Richardson of New Mexico is a serious contender for commerce secretary in the Obama administration, two sources close to the transition said Friday.
The same sources, however, cautioned that Richardson could be tapped for another senior post as well. They do not consider Richardson's appointment to the Commerce Department to be a done deal.
Richardson, 61, was a candidate for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination. Currently in his second term as New Mexico's governor, he previously served as ambassador to the United Nations and energy secretary in the Clinton administration.
he's doing the hitler salute lol
did hillary vote go to war in iraq find someone that will chase the facts before going to war on borrowed money
Not even dog catcher, thank you and I voted for Obama.
I love the peanut gallery screaming "where's the change?!" two weeks after Obama was elected. LOL. He promised change you dimwits. He didn't promise that his cabinet selections would be inexperienced students or plumbers.
Richardson will do a good job. So will Clinton.
In other words, both the PUMAs and the Hillary haters need to calm down and get lives.
Bill Richardson will bring a great presence to the commerce post that will give reasurance to all of us. He as the experience to do so, in being a buisness consoltant and a politcal figure. As a hispanic, he will negotiate with emeriging markets in Latin America that will strengthen the worlds economy. Great cholce.
well. well. well... cant wait for the messiah to turn our whole world around,,, change we must believe,,, if not,,,,,,,,,, so help us,,, let the messiah grace us with his wisdom.. his sage advice,, his absolute knowledge of everything ,,, wake up amerika,,, its your turn now,,, oh well,, 2012 aint that far offf
I know HRC and BR you are no HRC. BR is a likeable guy but he is not intellectually deep. He is good at tactics, but given the problems America faces, PE Obama needs deep strategic thinker and a key implementer. The best candidate in this case is HRC.
Richardson supporter, you have been in the USGOVT to LONG!
Clinton as Secretary of State is the first Obama selection I have a problem with. Richardson would be a far better choice. He has more hands on experience, brings less drama, and can be trusted to support the president and not his own agenda. Sorry, I still have trust issues regarding Clinton.
Watch out Obama for BR. May just betray you as he did before. A leopard hardly changes its colors. I am glad HRC is set for the SoS job. Mini pay back time. Who knows whether she accepted the job to spite "Judas".
great choice, and mostly Salute tought
but there are many otherssss
like Claire mcaskill of missouri
or kathlyn sybeluis from Kansas....can"t really write it

Shaiiwn from the netherland(Anna paulowna)
Can Judas be trusted? I'd say let him stay in new mexico
Bendict Arnold.....this is the guy that will promote american trade agreements...he's a light weight....
Benedict Arnold is he...
There's a few things i would like to throw out here. One. I think Richardson would make a good secretary fo state or Director of Homeland security. I wish Pelosi could get replaced by hillary. I would like to see Powell as secretary of state myself. Or secretary of defense for that matter. I personally hope he's not trying to copy the clinton administration. Would show me an early sign of maybe not being as qualified as I had hoped. But I'm gonna stick with my having faith in the man. Cuz frankly the only thing i think that can stop him from greatness is his own ego.
He is a bad choice for any cabinet position....look how he treated the clintons...everyone needs to watch their back.. hillary showed you can count on her to be loyal..so much for bill richardson
Can Gov. Richardson stop Bloomberg from increasing the MTA – fares on subways and buses ?
Canadia POV
I couldn't have said better!!!!
I love Bill Richardson. He will be great at this position.
I can't believe the Obama Administration is selecting a person as unqualified as Bill Richardson for such a critical position given the state of our economy. While Richardson has managed to rack up an impressive list of titles, if you look at what he has actually accomplished in his various roles, you come up with a big zero. Case in point: the state of NM is in far worse shape since Richardson has been in power from an economic, social and educational perspective. Moreover, he has no experience to speak of in the area of commerce.
It seems as though Richardson, who is only part-Latino, was selected presumably to appease the Latino vote. Ironically, the Latino vote does not support Richardson (as seen in the most recent Presidential campaign.)
Beyond Richardson's incompetence, let's not forget all the skeletons he has in his closet from his "extra -curricular" activities.
While I support Obama and most of the choices he has made thus far for his cabinet, I absolutely do not support having Bill Richardson as part of the administration. In every way, Richardson is a bad choice for the Obama and our country
Well, Obama has to give Richardson something. I am glad it's not what Richardson wanted because he does not deserve SoS.
I really want to know where all the change is. Glad to see Obama is getting people who are experienced because we all know he has none.
Unfortunately Obama will be criticized no matter who he picks. If he chooses Washington outsiders, he'll be bashed for choosing inexperienced people at a time when our country needs strong leadership.
If he chooses an experienced staff (aka: Ex-Clintonites), he'll be bashed for abandoning his promise of Change.
I say, Choose the best person for the job REGARDLESS of whether they worked for Clinton or not.
The REAL change should reflect in POLICY, not PEOPLE.
Boy there's a genius. Commerce secretary? Crap, New Mexico's economy is in the dumps. He hasn't done anything. But then neither has his new boss.
Some of you have this primitive notion that Richardson owes some loyalty because he served in Bill Clinton admin. Bill chose him for the job because he believed he can fullfill his duties. That does not mean that you have to serve him or his family for the rest of your life. That a petty mentality.
Having said that Bill Richardson endorsed the then Senator Obama because he believed he was the bet candidate and he justified today because American citizens also believed so.
Thinks own your own instead of following Carville like a servant. Hillary has lost so get over it. SHE HAS
