CHICAGO, Illinois (CNN) - Gov. Bill Richardson of New Mexico is a serious contender for commerce secretary in the Obama administration, two sources close to the transition said Friday.
The same sources, however, cautioned that Richardson could be tapped for another senior post as well. They do not consider Richardson's appointment to the Commerce Department to be a done deal.
Richardson, 61, was a candidate for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination. Currently in his second term as New Mexico's governor, he previously served as ambassador to the United Nations and energy secretary in the Clinton administration.
Of course he is.., another liberal insiders in the Obama adminstration. An administration who makeup marks the complete betrayed of the American people's vote for change.
Obama is bringing in a dream team.
I think he would be the best bet for Sec. of State. I respect Bill Richardson a lot, he deserves it!
Don't worry Bill, Barry will take care of ya... Can't wait to see this new administration in office. I'm soooooo geeeked...
NICE GUY-WELL QUALIFIED==BUT STARTING TO LOOK LIKE TOM DEWEY. GET A SHAVEL DEWEY LOST AN ELECTION WITH MOUSTACH.

wow………………another "new" face…………..this really is "change we an believe in"
Get a life. I know people like you were waiting to complain about new people and lack of Obama experience vs. the problems America faces right now.
Who do YOU think should be in his cabinet? People from off the street?

Gov. Richardson has the experience and skill to be Secretary of State. He would represent the change that the Obama Presidency is about.
Richardson fully deserves a great positon and I hope this one suits him. If there is a higher position, then put him in it.
Get over it people! Let Obama pick whomever he feels can suit his goals in the administration. I didn't hear very many complaints when Bush picked his cronies that were not qualified, like "Brown" for FEMA. Some people are just going to be miserable no matter what happens around them.
He is a diplomat.
What does he know about commerce?
i would like to stay on a governor.
His betrayal of Hillary Clinton shows he will betray anyone, even you and me.
We–the people of the United States.
Here, here!! At least you know he has a back bone and "balls". He took a lot of flack for endorsing President Obama for President instead of the Clinton machine. He stood his ground and delivered his state for our new president. This is a real man, and would you say "Maverick". And I am glad to see people coming to the white house from the border states, they have a unique insight to many of this country's most pressing issues and will bring balance. I say welcome aboard to Gov. Richardson, we are looking forward to having you on the TEAM!!
Can't believe Hillary is going to force Obama to give her Bill job. I can't stand her shes a fool.
Can't all the talking heads just put it on ice– freeze, shut-up and wait? Oh, that's not how things work, how sad then.
I'm glad Richardson will be getting a senior post in the Adminisitration, but it really should have been Secretary of State. It has nothing to do with liking or disliking Hillary, either. It's a simple matter of who's most qualified. Just look at Bill's resume compared to Hillary's! Hers is nothing to sneeze at, but come on – he's the CLEAR choice for SoS. I have a feeling there's some pandering going on here...
Give the new Prez a chance, change is not the people he put in office change is America doing better than we are doing now, the nay sayers need to stop that whats wrong with this country always looking to put someone under the bus.
Frankly, I prefer him at Commerece than SOS. And I like the latest news on Treasury and Defense
You see...this is a shame!!! One of the most qualified politicians for the post and a remarkable hispanic leader will get bumped by old politics and consolidation of power within the Obama Kigdom......It is ironic that after Bill back-stabbed the Clintons, the Clintons will have the last laughs!!!!!
Richardson doesn't deserve any post. Americans should consider loyalty and respect to be important traits of anyone that will represent our nation on the international stage.
His blatant lack of both characteristics that came through when he endorsed Obama, and not Clinton after all that family did for him, should be a clear indicator to Obama.
If Obama really does have such great judgment, he should be able to clearly see that Richardson doesn't care about his administration, or anyone but himself for that matter.
To Obama Victim: what did you think change was? Change of people? Did you expect Obama to fire every one in Washington and run a new recruitment for the office in 2month time?
The change Obama promised was change in policies and a change in the way washington works for the american people. I am positive that we will see that soon after he takes office.
Commerce? How does that make any sense? The guy is qualified to be SoS, and should be! If Obama wants to put Richardson in the Cabinet, then give him the position he's actually right for
Richardson is a very good person, and a very good politician.
Although he campaigned for the Presidency, I think even he knew he wasn't there to win the White House.
Anyway, I would prefer him as SoS, but Clinton seems like a good choice, too. Commerce for Richardson could bring Latin America (not just Mexico, but all the countries in the south) closer to the U.S.
Latin America really has a very poor political perception of the U.S. thanks to Bush's foreign policies.
Judas as a Cabinet member. Go figure.
I guess turning your underwear inside out and putting them back on is change, same old democrats and republicans, pretty sad statement on US politics
It's sad when you read posters who fault every choice obama picks. don't you understand what this nation is facing. You need experience for top level job. Please use common sense.
