Karzai: Obama promises Afghanistan more aid

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="Afghan President Hamid Karzai says Barack Obama has promised Afghanistan more aid."]

KABUL, Afghanistan (CNN) - President-elect Barack Obama has assured Afghan President Hamid Karzai the U.S. will send more aid and pay more attention to his war-torn country, according to Karzai's office.

However, Obama aides said the Saturday call did not include specific promises.

Karzai's office said Obama told him the United States was committed to helping the people of Afghanistan and bringing peace and stability to the country.

The Afghan president again congratulated Obama on his election and told him that he hoped his presidency would lead to prosperity for the American people, his office said.

But two aides in Obama's transition office downplayed the significance of the call.

Obama told Karzai he "looked forward to working together on Afghan security after January 20," according to one aide, but the incoming president stressed that "until then there is one president, and it is President Bush."

Obama takes office on January 20.

The incoming administration continues to be careful to show they are not stepping on the White House's toes or making any promises to world leaders.

Ray, I agree, we cannot simply pray... we must give a hand up, but first we may have to clean house as you said. Creators gives the way, we simply have to have to will to get on the Path! And we need the courage to see that others follow our lead.... as soon as we can. If we help people of the world, they will let go of following fanatics who lead them to their death for their own gains.... just as our Big Business gets rich on the backs of the poor. They cannot do it so much here anymore... so they desert us to take advantage of those who are weaker elsewhere. The world has to get a conscience, until it does, we have to force one on them! *LOL* We can do that with legislation and regulation!

Just an old Indian woman here....dreaming for the world until it is strong enough to dream for itself! 🙂

Send in the drones, they don't get tired and are very percise. In fact the drones can see their targets from thousands of feet away and take them out with ease.

With drones, troops don't get hurt, only the terrorists get killed! Maybe this is the best form of aid.

Ray Fisher- According to your logic why not just destroy all the churches and Bibles too!! Idiot, if the American Army had the mentality like you, we would be in a crusade! We are fighting in a war not decimation of populations and religions. You go against core American values: FREEDOM OF RELIGION AND FREEDOM OF SPEECH

p.s. Koran doesn't just tell ppl to pray

Ray – are you nuts? The US is in Afghanistan in the first place because Al Qaeda had so little disregard for human life that they killed 3000 civilians – yet you want to the same?

Sorry, but I'm sick, and tired of these foreigner's coming to our front door looking for a hand-out/bail-out, put the word "NO", back into our countries vocabulary (charity begins at home) ! The President of Afghanistan (Mr. Karzai) since his inception is nothing more than a," Glorified Lobbyist", for the heiarchy of his pathetic ( tribes governing in caves/tents with machete's) government! Example #1: We've ask the auto-makers to show us a plan, and if the plan isn't suffciently structured for real-change,were going to put millions out into the street, but we'll give(Karzai's Government)) these clown Billions $USD", every time they(Karzai'sGovernment) comes-a knockin", for a handout, are wallets open up, without asking any difficult questions? Yea ,The United States,"foreign-aid program",regarding this country is broken! Example#2: Afghanistan's" Poppy Crop" grows expotentially every year ,creating more herion addicts worldwide! The income from these crops is Bilions, upon Billions $USD, but this economic income goes to that place we call,"Money Heaven",.....yea! We're fostering a monster and it's about time to stop.....

Much of the instability in Afghanistan is a direct result of devastating poverty. This poverty is the breeding grounds for today's strategic threats. For this reason, Bush's failure to help stem Afghan poverty with humanitarian aid has been a critical mistake. Instead, Bush sent military aid. More guns alone will never end terrorism.
