First White House Chrismukkah cards accidentally sent

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="A card sent to Jewish leaders had a distinctly Yuletide flavor."]WHITE HOUSE (CNN) – Whoops! A picture of a Christmas tree is not the first thing you would expect to see on an invitation to an event celebrating Hanukkah, but that is exactly what recipients of invitations to this year's White House Hanukkah reception initially got in the mail.

The invitation sent to American Jewish leaders on behalf of the President and First Lady, requesting "the pleasure of your company at a Hanukkah reception," bore an image of a Clydesdale horse-drawn cart, carrying the White House Christmas tree, with a Christmas wreath-adorned White House in the background.

Mrs. Bush's press secretary, Sally McDonough, attributed the snafu to a "staff mistake" in not printing separate cards for the different White House holiday events, as has been the custom in years past. "Mrs. Bush is apologetic, It is just something that fell through the cracks," she said, referring to the role of the First Lady's office in sending out the invitations.

The card as originally intended featured a menorah given to the White House during Harry Truman's presidency. That mailing was to have gone out today, according to Mrs. McDonough.

McDonough added that the White House had received "dozens" of calls of support from members of the Jewish community to express their appreciation for what President and Mrs. Bush had done for them through the course of Mr. Bush's presidency.

Peter, Rick and other haters have nothing positive in their lives so they will continue spew hate and lies everywhere. It is very, very sad for them.

I'm guessing that most competent staffers who were in the WH have long left for new jobs. Those who remain are either extremely loyal, bribed, or incompetent.

John, Air Force Vet... Careful there, you may start folks reading about all these myths that have been pawned off on us by the old religious right who use the myth of Santa and the birth of "christ" to hawk all sorts of wares to the gulliable, perpatrating the myth that gift giving is related to godliness.. Just think how many people you would put out of work if folks stopped believing in good old St. Nick... HO HO HA... Besides, the Bushes probably fired that poor little office worker who mistakenly sent out the christian cards to the jewish community... Poor thing, and just before Christmas...

Can't anyone read? It was a staffer's clerical error. You people talk as if it's Bush himself licking the stamps on every card. I'm a liberal, but come on. Give the guy a break–It was a mistake, and it wasn't even his mistake! We Dems are making ourselves look TERRIBLE by blaming one man for every little thing that goes wrong.

Big deal it was meant in the spirit of good. I bet if it was Obama there wouldn't even be a story about it. Those of you who think the Bush family sent it are truly morons! Grow up you whiny libs.

    To boered1:

Maybe I'll start celebrating Ramadan when the believers in that holiday start recognizing other religious holidays and stop blowing things up and lopping people's heads off.

Growing up in Glen Rock, NJ, many of my Jewish friends had a Christmas Tree. A Christmas Tree is not a religious symbol it is a commercial symbol of the Holiday Season. Take a chill pill and relax about this and watch as Bush screws up the rest of his term in genuine ways.

If you need any perspective, ask yourself this: can you imagine them screwing up by accidently putting a menorah on a Christmas card? Answer: no. And there you go. Mistakes happen. What's important is the kind of mistakes and why.
