Obama sends condolences to terror victims

(CNN) - President-elect Barack Obama issued the following statement Friday evening regarding news American citizens are among those who have lost their lives during the attacks in India:

"Michelle and I send our deepest condolences to the loved ones of the American citizens who lost their lives in the outrageous terrorist attacks in Mumbai. Our thoughts and prayers are with them, and with all who have been touched by this terrible tragedy," Obama said in the statement.

"These terrorists who targeted innocent civilians will not defeat India's great democracy, nor shake the will of a global coalition to defeat them. The United States must stand with India and all nations and people who are committed to destroying terrorist networks, and defeating their hate-filled ideology," he also said.

"There is one president at a time. I will continue to closely monitor the situation on the ground in Mumbai, and am grateful for the cooperation of the Bush Administration in keeping me and my staff updated. We fully support the Bush Administration's efforts to protect American citizens and assist the government of India during this tragic time."

We'l probably all be screwed in the near future. Will wait and see. I demand results, not talk and hype.

    The shrubs....very original, giddy.

    Well, how was it Barbara?

This carnage has been going on for almost 48 hours now. I strongly suspect that the terror outfits infiltrated and have the "embedded" employees in place at these Hotels. Once the operation started the "embedded" employees joined the "storming terrorists". Indian Hotels employ more help per guest in the luxury Hotels than the ones in the West.

These terrorists can't act without sleep for 48 hours. Someone has to releive them when they rest. Unfortunately this may go on for a couple of more days if not more since the innocent people caught in the fire and structures have to be saved.

Note: Please do not use my name on this blog. I prefer to use the name: Lone Star

crime terrorism is reported on the news constantly. It induces crime. they get noticed. But if no crime or terrorist was put on TV there would be no use in crime/terrorism. Its all done for attention, if no attention then whats the effort? it TV programs were restricted to only kind news then we would be in a better world. However, they wouldn't make as much money. I hope one day this happens. I love to hear about nice things but its all about crime and terrior. Carlton Barker

They need more than talk and no show out of you OBAMA . If you're going to be President you will have to act when terrorist strike nations like this. In other words be ready to send troops to where they're needed. If you haven't the stomach for it as so many Americans have then you're the wrong man for the job. Talking of withdrawing from Iraq and Afghanistan is not on the table for stalwart Presidents. And a tough man is what we need to run this country. Yhave to make tough decisions.and not listen to the whiners. The children of flower children will let America sink.

I find it totally incongruous that Americans act so surprised and outraged at the attacks in Mumbia.
An illegal war in Iraq America has killed 1,200,000m people countless tens of thousands in Afghanistan dead, used mercenaries ( illegal combatants,Terrorist) currently 160,000 in Iraq. Tortured indiscriminately freedom fighters and non combatants including teenage children.
Quite frankly America and Britain deserve all they get maybe hopefully this will make these two terrorist states think twice about mounting another war using these illegal tactics, the only way to resolve this is to bring the war criminals responsible for these tactics to the Hague war crimes tribunals to be hung, just like Saddam Husein. Bush and Blair should face the same Gitmo methods of extracting information to be used against them in the war crimes trials. .

Jonathan M in a Red State wrote" It's acts like these that make people want to kill Muslims". Why would you want to kill anyone if you hate terrorism? Even worse, it is Muslim extremists who are involved in this kind of terrorism, not Muslims. Big difference. Until you know the difference, you will continue to be as hate-filled as the terrorists themselves.

Obama has stated all along that the terrorist are near the borders of Pakistan . I think this is proof, and that sanctions against Pakistan need to be an option. We can make a stand by capturing Bin Laden and letting the Pakistanian government know they will bring him to us or face the consequences.

He doesn't know what to do… man I hope they just stay over there and don't attack us here.

Do you have a brain at all? Bush is still the president. There's one president at a time. Your low information comment belongs on FOX/FAUX NEWS/NOISE.

I'm so tired of reading lame brain comments.

to Barbara in NC I do believe you will be disappointed once Obama is in office. You sound as if everything will be peaches and cream once he's in office. the Dems in Congress are already fighting amongst themselves. It will be hard to get anything done. By the way the President has been on the phone to the Indian Prime Minister seeing what the United States can do to help and not just sitting on his thumbs. And to True Independent The Pakistani government has been cooperating with the US for years and there are still problems. Do you think the terrorists will stop every just because Obama takes office? I hope Obama does well president but I'm a wait and see type.

Never give in to terrorism! We can't let them win!

Obama will have the nerve and the fortitude to do what needs to be done – a cool and steady hand.

It is so sad to see all the posts from such negative Americans?? – Shut your mouths and open your hearts and ears! there are such brave and good people all over the world – we will all stand in the end against this evil – wait and see the spirit of good will prevail. It will take a united world to defeat the horror that terrorism uses to try to divide us. It will take time and intelligence – not just chest beating and ugly words.

MM-Barack Obama is President-Elect. He is NOT the president until January 20. After that date, you may look for change and if you don't see it, complain. Until then, be patient.

    To Griff @ 6:18

FYI: George Bush is still in office.

    To MM @ 7:45

FYI: Barack Obama is currently a private citizen with absolutely no authority to do anything...yet. He is not the President. He is not even a US Senator anymore.

What, pray tell, do you expect him, specifically, to do?

God, please help the people in Mumbai. Comfort those that mourn. Thank you.

    Give Peace a Chance Please.

The recent attacks in Mumbai have the potential of causing reprisal attacks. This would be just as wrong as the terrorists. Lets take a a page from Gandhi and modify and use his techniques.

    First a Fact:
The only way these radical groups will stop is when modern/moderate Muslims stand up to them. For various reasons this is not happening.

So until there are no terrorist attacks in India for one year we will all boycott any Muslim business. This will not be easy but it is important as much as possible. Don't go to their restaurants, shop at their stores or even hire them. Walk away and do business with a Christian, Sikh, Hindu, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi, Mormon or someone who has no religious ties.

I know some people say "listen to the terrorists and negotiate with them." This will just lead to more demands and it will never end.

Let us try for peace by a simple boycott, it may be the only chance the world has.

If you can try to send this to one person for every victim of the terrorist attacks. That would be the least you could do.

"These terrorists who targeted innocent civilians will not defeat India's great democracy, nor shake the will of a global coalition to defeat them."

What coalition? Obama and the Democrat Party told us that 9/11 – and everything that followed – was all the creation of George Bush and set out to destroy anyone who took an aggressive stance against Islamofascists. Hate-filled leftist maniacs set out to punish pro-coalition governments in Great Britain, Spain, and Italy – and succeeded. Or was all that Democrat talk of “losing the support of our allies” just another Democrat lie?

In the middle of a war we traded Winston Churchill for Neville Chamberlain. Nice going, Obamanation!

People are so anxious to get a fresh start with an intelligent and educated President. It seems that everyone is sort of offering to help Bush pack and – do ya need a ride to the airport – sort of rush. However, Obama is not the President yet and some have expressed disappointment that he hasn't begun to make changes yet. There is adequate evidence that he is gathering a skilled team – so will bring vital experience and others fresh ideas. There's a lot of damage to undo and it will take time, hard work, and patience. So much depends on the success of this new Administration. They will need our support.
