Obama calls Indian prime minister

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="Obama called India Prime Minister Singh Friday night."](CNN) - President-elect Barack Obama spoke with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh late Friday night, the president-elect's transition team said.

Obama called Singh to express condolences for the victims of the recent terrorist attacks there. He also made clear there is only one U.S. president at a time, the transition team said.

Earlier Friday evening, Obama released a statement on the attacks in India.

I am somewhat saddened by how many of you write in with conflicting comments. Some give Obama heat for getting "too involved," while others are lambasting him for not getting "involved enough."

Think before you write. And think about this: YOU are not EVEN "President-elect." You are a citizen. Why don't you take your own advice, and mind your own business? Really, people - no one wants to hear from you.

Do something constructive, like go and blog on RedState or call Hannity. Nobody gives two healthy licks about what YOU think here at CNN. Thank you for coming; now, PLEASE LEAVE.

Why isn't there any pictures or videos of the Indian Prime Minister on CNN? Is it because he is a Sikh and wears a turban?

Why don't you people pick up a book and read something educational. It' obvious most of you don't have a clue about anything. Mr. Obama is honest and smart. You people are neither honest or smart.

    One more thing:

You McCain-ites and Bush groupies please leave my beautiful country!

You are showing severe signs of Anti-Americanism! You are possessing traits of terriorism! You have the intelligence of ten year olds! Are any of you elementary school graduates?

I will continue to pray for you, whose hatred came out of the closet on Nov 4!

God bless President Obama, VP Biden, Cabinet members, Staff, etc.

This is a great nation! We are a great people !

We will rise above all evil; from outside the country, and within!

All of you out-of-the-loopers; come on in; there's room for you too!

Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you; not as the world gives, give I to you.--Let not your hearts be troubled...Fear not, I AM is with you!!!

Obama thinks it O.K. to pretend to be the President.I wonder if Singh will call us after we are attacked?A lot of Americans are going to be sorry for the way they voted when the troops come home.

    Freedom is not free

There is quite a lot of hate in these blogs. You are bloody lucky to have a President like Obama coming in, it is time for less redneck mentality and for the future to turn in the direction of thoughtfulness and peace. When will the haters ever learn that unity is the best policy and hate and war will only bring more of the same – and eventual destruction to the greatness of America.

    Memo to PE Obama haters:

What else do you want him to do? He is not yet the president and doesn't have the right or the power to do anything else but send his condolences right now, at least publicly.

I would not be a bit surprised, however, if there was some discussion between PE Obama and Indiana PM Singh about what direction the US may be willing to go after January 20. If THAT had been reported, all you haters would have complained about it, too.

I figure in 1 -2 years if that, the Obama supporters will catch on that they elected a Black version of Bush.

Thank you President elect Obama. I am from India and these three days were so difficult for me. I consider these as attacks against humanity. Those animals even shot a thirteen year old girl point blank.
I think you will consider serious actions against them. What do they want? Like Obama said it is time to attack the terrorists living inside Pakistan. There should be actions. Since there were citizens from other countries also we should all act together. Let us show those cowards what we can go together.

Good for him. I am thinking that when he leaves the WH after his term we can count on him having all his morals intact. I have much more faith in Obama than I ever had with W.

Mr. Obama did all that he could do at this time. It is amazing the hatred spewed by some of the earlier comments posted in this blog. You "losers" obviously had 8 years of dominance and the new man on the block cannot act until January 20, 2009. You who attack Mr. Obama probably cannot articulate what a man in his position should do at this point in time. Patience is not your virtue.

My uninformed guess is the "terrorists" are raising hell during a time when our current President seems weak and ineffective (see the economic crisis) and the measure of the President-elect hasn't been taken. If I was a bad guy, I'd be busy now too.

Of course, we shouldn't be too narcissistic, we aren't the only players in the world and this attack in India wasn't altogether about us. Pakistan and India have many deep issues between them and some reconciliation was beginning. The bad guys surely hated that!

I think P.E. Obama is very smart to raise his head during this time and fill in the spaces that Bush and his team have seemingly abandoned or screwed up. Until Obama started trotting out his team, the stock market was tanking every day. Since then, it has gone up every day for a week, even though he can't and won't do anything until January. The market is very emotional for a bunch of mostly guys and they needed to see more about the future to begin to tide them over the abyss.

Wow! Some of these GOP supporters are surely sore losers and full of hate. What is wrong with Obama calling the Indian PM? Some of you are even suggesting to send special forces. Don't we need those special forces at the Afghan-Pakistan border? And someone calling himself/herself a "Palin supporter" has the audacity to call Obama an "idiot". Amazing, isn't it? We all saw how bright both Bush and Palin are.

Phone calls don't solve the terrorist problem-
"If McCain had won, he would have called for special forces and swat teams to be sent to support one of our most important allies in their time of trouble—-

What does Obama do?—He makes a phone call."

What a fool he would be if he did. Only President Bush can do that as of today. Obama know what to do in a time like this, I guess that is why he is P E not John McCain

This is for all you PUNK heads without COMMON SENSE in America–Mr.Barack Obama will not be able to act until he's sworn in on January 20 2009 as PRESIDENT of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.Until that time please SHUT-UP and HOLD YOUR PEACE. AMEN.

Most people don't understand that we are getting a huge amount of change here. Change from 8 years of the worst president in modern history. Change from Conservative ideals that have driven this country into the ground and then some. So don't tell people we aren't getting change. We are just getting change in the direction of correctness and freedom, I think a lot of you would prefer the other way.

I have to chuckle at the comments based on a PRESS comment on a phone call.

To Phone calls...problems: Perhaps India would have a say in what forces would be accepted in their country. Yours and McCain's attitude is part of why America and the world is in such a mess.

A condescending attitude that other countries can't handle their own problems and an inability to realize that American military intervention is a huge contributing factor in creating the violence and recruitment in the Middle East.

Phone calls don't solve the terrorist problem-- Neither do special forces an swat teams especially when you DON'T know who did the attacks. That is WHY Obama is the PE. Btw, only the President (BUSH) can do that, not the PE.

You all sound like sore losers to me. McCain would send in the swat team? To another country who didn't attack us and uninvited? There are countries who have been around long before us; who are you to act like the high school hill-billy who thinks he can solve the world by "attempting" to beat everyone up? By the way genius, I really doubt the swat team would be the ones called up, I think you need to go read a book.
