Bushes announce purchase of post-White House home

The first family will move to Dallas after President Bush leaves office.

The first family will move to Dallas after President Bush leaves office.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - President and Mrs. Bush will be moving to Dallas after Mr. Bush leaves office, the White House announced Thursday.  “The President and Mrs. Bush have purchased a home in the Preston Hollow neighborhood in Dallas, Texas,” Sally McDonough, Mrs. Bush’s press secretary, said in the statement.

The Bushes lived in Dallas from December 1988 through January 1995. They moved to Austin after Mr. Bush was elected Texas governor in November 1994.  The president was partial owner of the Texas Rangers baseball team during part of their time living in Dallas.

During the latter part of Bush’s presidency, the first lady had made it known that Dallas would be their primary residence after leaving the White House, not the president’s beloved Prairie Chapel Ranch in Crawford, Texas.

“I like Crawford,” the president told a crowd at a Houston fundraiser in July.  “Unfortunately, after eight years of asking [the first lady] to sacrifice, I’m now no longer the decision maker.”  The Bushes will continue to spend some time at the ranch, according to the statement.

As to the specifics of their new home, the Bushes “do not have occupancy of the home, and therefore, no additional details will be provided,” McDonough said.

    On the lighter side:

"The president was partial owner of the Texas Rangers baseball team during part of their time living in Dallas"
Is it any wonder that the Texas Rangers have never been any good? Just to quote wikipidia, and to let you know how much of George W. Bush permeates into the team, this is direct from Wikipidia:
"The Rangers are one of the least successful teams in MLB history"

I found that rather ironic given the fact that Dubya is the least successful President in history. I think it's a pattern! GOOD RIDDANCE!

Glad to see someone can afford a house in this economy.

Dubya, do us a favor and make your new home in a foreign country. Come to think of it, take all your siblings with you so we won't have the possiblity of ever having another of your family in public office.

Nobody forced banks and mortgage companies to make loans
that the mortgagee could not possibly pay back and that's a fact.
It was greed, pure and simple.

  8. Crawford Sucks!!

Living on the hickville prairie lands of Crawford, TX. was just a public relations gimmick to support his image as one of the good ole Texas cowboys from the wild west.

'You democrats are amusing, if nothing else. Your comments usually go something like this: "George Bush is satan himself and I hope after we prosecute him and Dick Cheney for all their crimes and give them the death sentence they both rot in hell and hey, all you republican haters on here, please stop your terrible nasty comments so we can all unite and support our wonderful new president."

You sound like the hater pal, but stupidity is more likely your major flaw since you seem to be an admirer of the dumbest wad to ever hold the presidency. Rick, you really don't need to be a Democrat to hate Bush, just being half-way intelligent should do it!!

Tom W. Libtard isn't hateful? I'll agree some of the comments here are hateful, but they come from both sides of the isle. And have you actually ever listened to Rush? Google some of the things he's said on his show. You may be surprised.

  11. Herbert Hoover Lane

Uhm, Noah, didn't your great attitude towards normal people who DON'T fly to Senate hearings in Lear Jets to ask for billions of dollars, just lose big time in this last Presidential Election? Haven't heard from King George lately with the economy in free fall & all. We've heard more from President Elect Obama. Speaks volumes. It would be apropo if King George's new mansion street was named "Herbert Hoover Lane" or something to that effect. Enter the 21st Century...FINALLY!

The Obamadrones won the election but their seems to be no end to their emotional, uninformed anger. Anger combined with no understanding of history and even less understanding of business/economics is a sad brew.

War-crimes? Try examining the challenges of combat outside the conventional military framework. Bush approach to enemy combatants mirrored FDRs – and let's remember the traditional term was partisan and treated with summary executions. If we had the same media and weak spined public in June 1944, we would have surrendered when we got bogged down and took thousands of casualties in Normandy.

Cause of the Economic Crisis – take a hard look at the Democrats – this brew is solely on the heads of Chris Dodd and Barney Frank. The Bush administration and Republicans in both the House and Senate consistently attacked this 'full housing' subterfuge. Get real, people – the very policies Obama advocates are of the same ilk that created this mess – with a heavy dose of public responsibility, I dare say, by the very same Obama supporters who want something for nothing or whose hearts bleed for every person who is irresponsible. Where Bush went most wrong was when he emulated Dems with entitlements such as Medicare Part D.

Bush did not destroy the country – he dealt with one of history's biggest challenges and they won't have been challenges if they were easy. But don't worry. The pixies dust will clear and the reality that even the 'great' Obama can't give you the free, entitled life you want may serve as an abject lesson.

Maybe Bush can become owner of the Dallas Cowboys and cause ruin to that proud franchise. He did a credible job of running the country to the ground.

Bronson, are you for real???! You truly have no idea what has been going on in Washington DC for the last eight years! Sad, but so typical of the right wing idiots out there.

I do feel sorry for Laura Bush. I can't imagine being married to Mr. "Clueless".

"Tell me what war crimes that Bush performed. Give me specifics. Don't spin some BS liberal party line about an un-just war. All wars are un-just in someone's eyes. Calling someone a war criminal is a very serious charge. Tell me you have examples."

    Here, Doug, you idiot,

    "Study: False Statements Preceded War

    Email this Story

    Jan 22, 9:17 PM (ET)

WASHINGTON (AP) – A study by two nonprofit journalism organizations found that President Bush and top administration officials issued hundreds of false statements about the national security threat from Iraq in the two years following the 2001 terrorist attacks.

The study concluded that the statements "were part of an orchestrated campaign that effectively galvanized public opinion and, in the process, led the nation to war under decidedly false pretenses."

He lied us into war and is responsible for every single Iraqi civilian and American GI death. He is a war criminal and should spend the rest of his life rotting in a cell.

What makes me sick is the way people harbor so much hate for Bush but then get mad when people harbor hate for Obama"

One has been President for 8 years, the other has yet to even take office. You don't see a difference?

@Doug from Allentown: I'll tell you what....I agree with you that war, and the whole 'who is a terrorist thing', and the whole 'who is a war criminal thing' is quite let me take Bush down to Gitmo for a little interrogation and we'll see if he admits to any war crimes. Certainly the accused war criminal deserves no better than the accused terrorist, right? Now YOU tell me… deep down inside… would you really care about that prisoner in Gitmo getting water-boarded or are you just looking for more venom to fling at [D]s? I think it is YOU that should not spin some BS rightwing party line about un-just accusations against the abuser-in-charge.

The man and his party did some pretty dreadful things....the constuitution and other written laws do not have an 'out' clause that say they are only in-force when it is convenient. You vaccuous morons on the right are all for the "rule of law" until its applied to one of yours. You neo-tards, with your 'patriotic' lapel pins, are pathetic, and an embarrasment to real conservatives.
