Sources: Caroline Kennedy asks about Clinton Senate seat

David Paterson to ask about the Senate seat to be vacated by Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton if she is confirmed as secretary of state in the new Barack Obama administration, Democratic sources tell CNN.
One Democratic source close to the Kennedy family confirmed that Kennedy has had conversations with Paterson and "is interested to say the least" about discussing the Senate vacancy. This source says Kennedy has asked a tight circle of other family friends and political advisers for advice.
A second source, who has knowledge of Kennedy's conversation with Paterson, tells CNN that Kennedy reached out to inquire about the responsibilities and impact such a move would have if she were selected by the governor to fill the position.
In an interview Friday with CNN affiliate NY1 News, Paterson added his own confirmation, saying, "I took a call from her Wednesday night but, I'm not going to talk about the conversation, that just adds more speculation and I don't think it's particularly relevant."
Asked if Kennedy expressed interest in the seat, Paterson replied, "We talked about a number of things, the seat did come up in the conversation."
Paterson added that he was not going to discuss anyone specifically that he might consider to fill the seat if Clinton vacates it to become secretary of state.
"I'm not talking about lists, individuals or anything like that. That just, in my opinion, obfuscates the process," Paterson said.

Caroline Kennedy's education alone makes her a lot more qualified for Senator than Sarah Palin was for VP...and Caroline purchases her own clothing.
I'm sorry, Caroline Schlossberg. While Caroline Kennedy (Schlossberg) may be a recognizable name and figure, I don't believe she should be "given" Hillary Clinton's Senate seat. She has no political experience having never held public office. She has always wanted her life and her family's life to be private. She even wrote a book about Privacy. She supported President-elect Obama and now she feels she has the experience and know-how to take over the important job of NY Senator. If having a recognizable name, being a female, and living in NY are qualifications to take over this job, then it's pretty obvious that the governor should give the seat to Chelsea Clinton. She should inherit the seat given up by her mother when she's confirmed as our new Secretary of State. Sounds good to me.
I was appalled to learn that another Bush was lusting after political power when Jeb announced he would be happy to accept the self-nomination for Senate when Martinez steps down. Now I'm just of boggled mind as another legacy kid, and one with nary a prerequisite qualification to boot, apparently thinks it might be a cool parttime job
to fill up those empty hours between luncheons & fashion shows that
chic Manhattenites so love. Spare us the palaver about America's princess & get somebody in there ready for the true rough & tumble business of getting this country put back into working order.
Stop the family dynasty enough of the kennedys.. sound familar?

The Kennedy family provided significantly in time of war and politics. How soon we forget this. Caroline has worked in the Senate for Ted as an intern. She is better educated and has accomplished far more the those in this blog critical of her merits. I suggest a few of you do some research on her before offering non-factual and hateful comments.
I think I just about had enough of the Kennedy's. Shel ayed low for all these year, she should stay there. No thaks. The Governor should make a good solid choice, and not be svayed by the name.
Caroline Kennedy would be an excellent choice. She is actually a real New Yorker. She is extremely intelligent, thoughtful, committed to the service of others, and has honor and integrity.
Hey, Republicans – this is the quality of woman this nation needs and would support. Palin is a disgrace to intelligent women and no matter how you dress her or what lines you feed her to repeat – she will NEVER be qualified for anything. If you think Palin is the future of your Party then your Party will have no future.
Go Caroline – what a breath of fresh air to see an intelligent woman with character and integrity in a position of leadership.
Good choice. Caroline Kennedy is a great upgrade from Hillary. At the least, I am sure Kennedy would have opposed the Iraq War. She does what is right for the country, not for her own political ambition.
Also, she knows how to pick a winner–Obama, back when most of the Democrats were backing Hillary. She has the guts to go against the 'safe' choice and do what is right for the country.
Not enough experience ? Look what experienced politicians did. They voted for Iraq war... This is about who has good judgement.
Great selection pure and simple! She is articulated and well spoken. Unlike Alaska Palin, she is smart and well educated with advanced IV league degrees. She is more qualified than Hilary.
I would preferred Caroline Kenndy or Cumo's son.
This is a tough choice for the New York Governor to make.

It's wonderful to see the influence President Obama is having on politics. More good people are going to want to be a part of the government, good people like Caroline Kennedy. I'm so happy we can begin being proud of our government officials again! Senator Caroline Kennedy... I think its the perfect time for her. Maybe she could be our first woman president some day, wouldn't that be a wonderful tribute to her fathers legacy!
I think it's an interesting idea, and a good possibility. To all the nay-sayers out there who contend Caroline Kennedy isn't qualified, stop for a second and do some research first, find out what she's qualified to do, what she believes in, how she makes decisions, then make your mind up. Don't merely attack her based merely on her name and your hatred for Democrats.
Please read her resume before saying "I will vote against her". She is brilliant lawyer who is not in it for the fame but rather her interest in making a difference.

Anyone who has read a newspaper and/or magazine in the last 30-40 years will know that she a very intelligent woman. Equally important is the fact that she comes from a family that, despite being extremely well-off, has always displayed a keen interest hardships faced by thosewho are not so well off. That cannot be taught.
