Early Blair House check-in for Obamas unavailable

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="The Obamas had been hoping for an early Blair House check-in."]CHICAGO (CNN) - President-elect Barack Obama will not be moving his family across the street from the White House early, despite his request to do so. Blair House, which incoming presidents traditionally occupy 5 days before inauguration day on January 15, is apparently booked in the early part of January.

An Obama transition spokesperson says the family initially "explored the idea" of moving into Blair House early so that daughters Sasha and Malia could start school on schedule. But the family was told there were previously-scheduled events and guests that could not be displaced.

"The Blair House, the President's guest house for visiting dignitaries, is available to President-elect Obama and his family starting January 15, as is historically the case," said Sally McDonough, spokeswoman for First Lady Laura Bush.

"As for any conversation, I don't comment on specific conversations about transition details."

The Obama transition spokesperson emphasized the White House has been "extremely accommodating" to the Obama family, adding that the entire process has been "smooth and friendly."

It appears that Obama is dammed if he does and dammed if he doesn't. He is critized fro not getting into Bush'mess and also critized for acting too presumptious. Make up your minds haters and dummies!Don't you wish you were smart like he and Michelle? Obviously, you are not use to a black smart man and wife to boot.

  2. Are You Serious???

Rebekah (11:03 AM), you're an idiot and your comments just proved it. He would not even be President-elect if he wasn't a citizen. Do you realize how many people have taken this stance and tried to prove that he wasn't a citizen?

Bertha Doucet, you're about as bright as a broken light bulb. Sounds like anger and disappointment in your comments.

I am an Obama fan and supporter, but he is asking to move in prior to the normal date of January 15. So there may be a good reason that the Blair House is booked up. I'm sure the Obama's will make other arrangements so their girls will still start school on time.

Bush looting the White House? Are you SERIOUS? It may be correct to lay the blame for a lot of things at his feet these days...but looting the White House is ridiculous. How could anything be LEFT to loot after the CLINTONS left? Obama, watch Hillary near the's probably the silver that the Bushes will be LEAVING to make up for what Hillary (and Bill) probably have in their kitchen.

This is outrageous. May I recommend that some of the guests volunteer the space, you know who you are. This is the future president of the United States.

Is it January 15 yet? No? Then why is everyone worring about it? He won't be left in the cold. This is nothing to worry about.

It would have been nice if Mrs. Bush, through her spokesperson, would have given the reason, i.e. which traveling "dignitaries" are actually staying there between the 1st and 20th of January, just so we didn't jump to conclusions about them being snotty.

@Your Morons. Do you mean you morons, or you are morons, or possibly you're morons? Just asking.

And thank you, Ken...honestly, the two-party SYSTEM is what's wrong with the country. I'm hammering the Clintons in my previous post, but I can hammer the Bushes with equal alacrity. Hmmm...maybe having one candidate for president from each region of the country, and then let us actually VOTE on who we like out of five or six thoughtful, responsible leaders...instead of a donkey or an elephant? Those of us who say "We're Republican" or "We're Democrat" are simply exacerbating the problem.

You realize that a fair amount of you sound like crying toddlers. It is unfortunate that the Blair House has already been booked and will be occupied by other people. Obama is moving in when president-elects always move in and his campaign has said the Bush admnistration has gone out of their way to be as accomodating as possible. Why should the dignatories who have already scheduled the House be inconvenienced or have their plans canceled because Obama wants to move in early? Did Bush move in early when Clinton was leaving office? Did Clinton move in early when Bush Sr was leaving office? Do you even know which dignatories even have it booked? The utter absurdity some of you display on these blogs is ridiculous.

it's no biggie, people. Now that they know, the Obama's can make other arangements. It's not like they were told one thing first then told another thing later.

He's a US senator? Where did he stay while in session... Maybe the Queen of England is staying there right now... I don't know... but this surely isn't anything to get bent over... no wonder this country can't agree on anything.

Besides... if the right people in Illinois roll over... they may be making room for him at Joliet! LOL

Okay, let's stop trashing one another. In the end, we are still one BIG FAT, ANGRY, DISFUNCTIONAL AND LOVEABLE American family, just like the one I have at home. We scream all the time, but we're together. I think my MOM is the glue that holds us together. Thank God!!!

I feel its racialy motivated. If the president and his family were "WHITE" I am sure they would find a way to accomodate them – This is shameful!!

Give me a break!!! What next will Barack Hussein Obama want. He can check into a hotel for all I care. He and wife look like the high maintenance couple and looking for perks for whatever reason. I think he thinks he is royalty, but he is not......Maybe Bill Ayers or Rev. Wright can put him up for a few weeks......Let the fun begin with the next four years of corruption in the White House and it is starting out in Illinois.

CNN is again trying to make a story out of nothing to insult the real president. PE Obama is not making a fuss as he has 95% of the media to do that for him, CNN should be a responsible member of the journalistic community and dig in to all the mess in the "I never talked to that man, the governor, about my senate seat except the times I talked to him about my senate seat" , if president Bush Sr. lied about "no new taxes" then Mr. Obama surly lied about whether he talked to the Gov. of his home state. If Mr. Obama can not even handle
a press conference while president elect how is he to face the many serious problems the congress, president and business community have brought upon us? I guess we will have to wait 4 more years for a real leader to make America great again. Heaven help us.

To: You Morons, Dave M., Kitty, An American, Rebekah, Bertha, Citizen, and Cindy (just to name a few, I got tired).

It is not rude or presumptuous to request housing so that his children can start school on time. I'm not even going to wonder what you folks would do if you had children. Of course is isn't President yet, but he will be very soon and you had better get used to it. I had to get used to having Bush as President (after I had to get used to him being governor), so must you with the incoming administration. And for everyone complaining that he is being too presidential right now, why not? Someone has to step up and lead since our current President is busy doing....well, I don't know what.

Get over yourselves, get a clue, grow up, quit listening to talk radio, try to read an actual whole book (and not one written by Limbaugh or Beck).

I love reading comments here. These republican idiots can't get over the fact he is the next President. It's HILAROUS. Everyone who voted for him should stop telling them to get over it, can't you find the humor in it? I've seen 3rd graders act more adult than some of these people. Let them moan and whine, its so funny. Bitter, bitter idiots, the lot of them. It really does shed light on why he won, i'm sure all the Democrats are just as sick and tired of them as we are up here. Childish, arrogant, uneducated, vengful, bigoted – so true. I can't imagine how pathetic thier lives must be that they must focus on this day in and day out.
