Early Blair House check-in for Obamas unavailable

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="The Obamas had been hoping for an early Blair House check-in."]CHICAGO (CNN) - President-elect Barack Obama will not be moving his family across the street from the White House early, despite his request to do so. Blair House, which incoming presidents traditionally occupy 5 days before inauguration day on January 15, is apparently booked in the early part of January.

An Obama transition spokesperson says the family initially "explored the idea" of moving into Blair House early so that daughters Sasha and Malia could start school on schedule. But the family was told there were previously-scheduled events and guests that could not be displaced.

"The Blair House, the President's guest house for visiting dignitaries, is available to President-elect Obama and his family starting January 15, as is historically the case," said Sally McDonough, spokeswoman for First Lady Laura Bush.

"As for any conversation, I don't comment on specific conversations about transition details."

The Obama transition spokesperson emphasized the White House has been "extremely accommodating" to the Obama family, adding that the entire process has been "smooth and friendly."

It's gonna take more than five days to remove the stench!

Confederates on this board, get used to the idea that a BLACK man is going to have the Patriot Act as a tool to fight terrorists (foreign and domestic). ..

And Dave M we're going to find YOU...Boo! who's the joke?

It's only an issue because the girls needed to start school on a certain date.

If they can't help him they can't help him. It's very possible that the guest already booked had reservations before the election not to mention before they chose a school for the girls. It's an unfortunate circumstance of DATES.

Rebekah, Get a grip hawii became a state in 1959 and obama was born in 1961. He probably had his records sealed for protection from nuts like you.

Previously scheduled events? You mean like providing a last hurrah for cronies of the most inept evil POTUS the US has ever seen? Of course the GOP POTUS, with historical low approval ratings would know upfront that he was leading his party to a fall from the office, so why wouldn't they book every available option to award their cronies up to the last minute?

Is anybody really surprised by this at all?

Oh good grief! You idiots who are going on about the school thing really need to use the brains that God gave you and think about this! It's not like his children are going to go to P.S. 32 and have to live in the school district for a certain amount of time. They will be going to a very poish private school and if they wanted to jet in from Timbucktoo every day to attend school, they could do so. Obama and his family will be housed in style somewhere close to the school. Its not like these childen will have to take the bus. Give me a break.

If it's traditionally used for Presidential guests, did Bush fill it up with friends or something?

I voted for Obama, but I must admitt that I cannot believe how personal some of you on here get. Don't any of you have a life other than the Obamas and what they are doing or not doing? God, if you don't you might want to find one. Quit taking everything so personal. It is not you the press is talking about.
To the idiot that posted to the effect that people will be hollering for his head, "take a hike" What kind of moron would hope that a President would fail? Forgot, you kind.

CNN, why is this news? All you're doing is giving these uneducated morons who question his citizenship and call him arrogant a forum to express their stupidity. This country is getting dumber by the minute. No wonder China and India are killing us when it comes to education.

This country is getting dumber by the minute because people like you says ridiculous statements like this. The only thing i gather in what you've said is, that you are frustrated because you LACK necessary verbal skills to project your confused and mislead feelings. Seems to me you have a problem with the people who question your all mighty God Obama. Uneducated you say Sr. well just look in the mirror and you'll see what an uneducated person looks like.

    God Bless.

Hold on.....affairs and accommodations are never altered in Washington? No party has ever been cancelled or moved? No dignitary has ever been put up at a different location than Blair House? It is the only location, short of either the Naval Observatory or the White House that is sufficiently secure for the Obama's and their entourage to move in. There could not possibly be a better use for the location. I doubt that anything scheduled there is more important than the secure living accommodations of the future president. This is a stupid decision and it really doesn't matter who was or was not offended. It is just plain dumb and dangerous. The White House should rethink ... or just think for a change.

"Bless their hearts!?!?!" Are you people crazy?!??! WHY is this news!?!? Protocol is being followed, period. Get over thinking BO is more special than any other president-elect – he's not. Get a grip, people, and find something IMPORTANT to comment on and quit using anything and everything to knock Bush! ENOUGH ALREADY! I have noticed, however, what very, very POOR WINNERS you BO folks are!

People, chill out. It's not a big deal. He asked for a perfectly valid consideration. The White House could not accommodate it and he's absolutely fine with their response. There's nothing wrong with asking. If the house had been available, I'm sure the White House would have gladly let the Obama's use it. So everyone just calm down. It's nothing to get upset about.

I do suppose you can read. The question is what do you read? Where does this trash you reference come from? You do have to consider the source you know.

If the Blair House was NOT booked in early January and the Obamas were told no, then I could see the uproar. However, since the Blair house IS booked, then this shouoldn't be an issue. It sounds to me like this only seems to be issue for people who think everything should be handed to them on a silver platter!
For those of you that think Bush is stealing from the government because of using the Blair House to house his guests (which, as a reminder, is the purpose of the Blair House) are dunderheads. Bush may have made some decisions we don't agree with, but he is indeed the president of the United States and that isn't easy. He should be allowed to entertain some guests. Besides, there are everyday citizens out there who do nothing for the country but use tax dollars to entertain their guests. At least Bush has earned some of it.

For all those that seem to have issues with the 44th first family moving in I wonder have you considered the reason they wanted to move in. Not to be near Bush but for the continuation of their children's education. That is a reasonable request all those that have had children in elementary school could understand. The White House has been occupied by old white men for so long we forget the special consideration that is needed when preteen children are involved.

Dear fellow citizen, can we stop exaggerate things. I don't see the a reason why we are making a big deal out of this? if, it is a traditional of white house that Blair house can't booked five days before inauguration day then that's fine and if for some reasons Obama want that place in advance that doesn't make elite or not follow the rules. We have heard any problem with the room being booked in advance from Obama transition team or Bush administration why is Obama wanted to the Blair house earlier.

Everybody get a grip! The election is over. B. Obama will soon be our president and we'll be well rid of the Bushies (Who'll be lucky if they can outrun the tar and feathers). "The sun'll come out tomorrow", and I can't wait!

People people the article carefully. Obama asked to check in early. The Bush staff said he couldn't, not because W is being vindictive or nasty, but because the place is already reserved for someone else. Obama's staff has stated that Bush's staff has been very friendly and accomodating. It's no big deal for either group. I'm sure Obama can find a nice hotel suite nearby, until the Blair House frees up.

And by the way, he's not POTUS until January 20th. And he's no more an elitist than any other Leader of the Free World. Frankly, I'd rather have an elitist who is a Constitutional Law professor from Harvard run my country than the gaggle of fools that have run the country for the last 8 years, and will be dragged into court very soon.

Knowing Obama he'll never stay in that Blair House. He'll wait for five days wherever he'll be staying and move straight into the White House. For all we care Bush can occupy it till 20 January 09 and it won't make an inkling of a difference. In fact why can't Bush himself move there on January 20 for five more days?

OMG are you ignorant Obamabots for real? Do you think this man walks on water? Why should he receive special treatment? What is the big deal, he is being accorded the same courtesy as any other president with children or not. Five days. Get over yourselves and read the article.
