Early Blair House check-in for Obamas unavailable

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="The Obamas had been hoping for an early Blair House check-in."]CHICAGO (CNN) - President-elect Barack Obama will not be moving his family across the street from the White House early, despite his request to do so. Blair House, which incoming presidents traditionally occupy 5 days before inauguration day on January 15, is apparently booked in the early part of January.

An Obama transition spokesperson says the family initially "explored the idea" of moving into Blair House early so that daughters Sasha and Malia could start school on schedule. But the family was told there were previously-scheduled events and guests that could not be displaced.

"The Blair House, the President's guest house for visiting dignitaries, is available to President-elect Obama and his family starting January 15, as is historically the case," said Sally McDonough, spokeswoman for First Lady Laura Bush.

"As for any conversation, I don't comment on specific conversations about transition details."

The Obama transition spokesperson emphasized the White House has been "extremely accommodating" to the Obama family, adding that the entire process has been "smooth and friendly."

I agree with Mitt. I did not vote for Obama, but he won the election. It's time to move forward as a country, with Obama as president.

"Idiots on here…does this article say ANYWHERE that the Obamas were offended that they could not move in early? No. I repeat since your intelligence is so limited…NO! "

Wow, someone really brought the crazies out today. To all of you people like Meg, as little as I like the Bush administration, all news from the Obama camp and press corps say that they have bent over backward to provide everything they can to the Obama transition team before they leave. It is a lot more that can be said of the Clinton administration when the Bush team took over (as you'll recall, they left pictures of porn and other garbage everywhere). I'm glad Obama wants to get settled in, he has a lot on his plate and we are all depending on him but he is getting the house when every other President-Elect got the house.

As a moderate Republican, I wish Obama could take the office of President today. Face it, most of you whacked-out liberal Democrats are so unable to do anything but blame our current President for absolutely everything that has happened in the U.S.A. for the past 8 is time for a change! I truly hope our country thrives tremendously under Obama's presidency...I'm an American before anything else. But be warned...any wrong-doing, national disasters, terrorist attacks, law-breaking, manipulations of the system, lies, etc. that this man incurs while serving our country...prepare yourselves for the same irrational "blame-game" that Bush has endured from you hypocrites.

I would like to know the names of the persons occupying Blair House during the time frame that the Obama's requested! CNN please find out and print these names for the American people, I want to see who we are paying for and why they are so important that the new president can not be accommodated.

CNN with a non story again. They still have their heads up Obama's backside and are trying to stir the Bush haters again. I voted McCain, but one of the responders said it correctly, let it go already (the Bush bashing). Move on already.

I am not at surprised by the White House feedback to Obama's request. Its in line George Bush character. He's never made any sacrifice for anyone else talkless of public interest.History will hold him accountable for where we are as nation at this time.He can't wriggle out out of this one.The "No" smirks of people who are waiting for something sinister to happen to prevent Obama from taking oath.Otherwise how why would deny someone of something that's already within his reach just to prove a cheap point.

Obama asked...Bush said it was previously booked....Obama said problem. Move on.

There is no issue and any media or individuals who try to make it into one simply reflect the divisiveness that has overshadowed the USA for the past 8 years.

CNN and on the real issues like job losses, soup lines getting longer etc.

Stop stirring up trouble where there is none.

This is a new of cooperation and no mud slinging...become leaders instead or stirrers of problems..

I can't believe any of you....this is about PE Obama's CHILDREN!!!! Those of you on the right will never accept this man, but at least have the decency to repect that fact that PE Obama and his wife are concerned about their girls. Believe it or not, Black people care about the well being and education of their children just like you!!!!

Rebekah> What exactly have you used for "Research", besides Faux News and conspiracy theory websites? We've already seen his birth certificate. Give it up. Do you honestly think that this president hasn't been throughly vetted by the powers that be? Somehow *you* know more than the CIA?

And CNN, this is SUCH a non-issue. Please don't try to make more of this than it is. PE Obama wasn't asking for special favors. If I were a parent, I'd want my kid to be able to start school on time, too. You print "articles" like this and then people go off on a limb about the whole thing. "Omg! How arrogant! blah blah" Stop fueling the flames, CNN.

I was waiting for bush to drop this big, ugly shoe. This is such a typical republican stunt. Who's staying there? Rush Limbaugh? Karl Rove? Or that nasty woman from Alaska.

If it were up to the people of this nation, Obama would move into the White House before the end of the year.

Why are we making a big deal of this? A request was made and the Blair house is booked. They can move in January 14th or 15th. The Obama's understand and have no problem with the decision. It was a request for their children. Everyone needs to relax. PE Obama and President Bush are working positively in the transition process.

Surprised? No, not really. Poor planning by the Bush adminstration up to the very end. Gee, who would have thought that another President would be coming in and that they should leave some some days open in advance at the Blair house.....

Also, try to read the entire article before you throw "stink bombs" at the Bushes:
The Obama transition spokesperson emphasized the White House has been "extremely accommodating" to the Obama family, adding that the entire process has been "smooth and friendly."

As for who the current President has accupying the house,

Mike, I have to disagree with you on this point. If the White House and the Blair House were his private property you would have a valid point, but its not ... its public property ... the property of the people of the United States and while I don't care who he has staying in there (I'm sure its legitimate) I do think that because the Blair House is public property of the citizens of the United States that it is our business.
