Early Blair House check-in for Obamas unavailable

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="The Obamas had been hoping for an early Blair House check-in."]CHICAGO (CNN) - President-elect Barack Obama will not be moving his family across the street from the White House early, despite his request to do so. Blair House, which incoming presidents traditionally occupy 5 days before inauguration day on January 15, is apparently booked in the early part of January.

An Obama transition spokesperson says the family initially "explored the idea" of moving into Blair House early so that daughters Sasha and Malia could start school on schedule. But the family was told there were previously-scheduled events and guests that could not be displaced.

"The Blair House, the President's guest house for visiting dignitaries, is available to President-elect Obama and his family starting January 15, as is historically the case," said Sally McDonough, spokeswoman for First Lady Laura Bush.

"As for any conversation, I don't comment on specific conversations about transition details."

The Obama transition spokesperson emphasized the White House has been "extremely accommodating" to the Obama family, adding that the entire process has been "smooth and friendly."

By the way, this is not news worthy.

Wow – slow day, CNN? If you don't have anything to report, maybe you shouldn't report anything at all...

The Obama's have millions of dollars – they can probably afford a hotel up until the 15th.

I have just recieved word that WND has a commercial about OB on his birth certificate. I would like to ask you to please run it so that the american people can see and judge for themselfs. Not running it seems would be un american thing to do, when it comes to our constitution there should be no boundary to big or to small to tackle.

It always amazes me how the media makes something out of nothing. I'm sure the Obamas do not have a problem with their request being turned down. I'm also sure that they are exploring other options. Nothing here keep moving!

Okay. I'm not a grandfather, but Duran Duran was cool when I could really move on the dance floor (laughter is prohibited).

But in the posts people keep calling each other 'haters'....

    What is a 'hater'????

Obama can stay at the IL Governers house vacated by his good pal Blago, I am sure that Rahm Emanuel (who happens to be the former Campaign Finance Manger for Blago) can work "something out" Remeber in Chicago "ya dont get somethin for nothin!"

Why should he be allowed to have the house at our expense a month early. Jan 15 is when it is offered and that is that

OMG, Who is anyone to tell the Obama's that they CAN NOT move in there when they want to. Bless their hearts.

It's ppl like you, Ernie, that really make me sick. Rules are rules. Your just like General Patton's Dog that lashes out on some ppl. Seems to me that other guests were scheduled there before Obama. He isn't the Prez. yet. So he's got to wait until the 15th to get into the Blair house.

Well if theBlair House is not available, maybe Bush has a couple of rooms to spare and let the Obamas be their guests until the official "move -in" date. Now wouldn't that be hysterical.

My gosh Jo, (second from the top). Where have you lived for the past 8 years. "Leave the poor man alone and let him leave with what little dignity the American public has left him with!"????????? There is no dignity in the White House these days. Your fearless leader and all his cronies saw to that. The man should pack his bags and steal away under the dark of night. Too bad the moon is full these days.

You were going along well until you started with the ignorant comments. Now if YOU read the article, they requested the house so their children could start school on time (if you have any kids, I'm sure you could identify with the request). The house was big deal. So I don't know where you get the "handout" statement from. If you don't ask you don't get. So I'm asking you to "get a life".

If it's traditional for elected presidents to reside at the blair's House and it booked now.....Something is very wrong. It's neither a Bush move or perhaps the color doesn't blend in with the house!!!!!

There should be no "thought" to moving onto the White House grounds until Obama is actually president. Everyone else has to make adjustments re their children and employment - no exceptions.

CNN i believe your ratings are down and will stay down until you stop being biased on what you report. OB is not my president and never will be. You can say whatever you want about President Bush, however he has kept Americans safe from another 9/11. This so called OB has done nothing good for this country no body knows his real agenda and Biden already said they are going to test this guy, well they know and everybody else knows, when we get attacked agian OB will do nothing. You got that people the great OB will do nothing. so the american people who die in the next go around will die in vain, congradualtions to a whole lot of stupid people in this country who think ob is going to give them something, and that something is a big deficit and a whole lot more taxes to come.

Democrats and republicans can finally agree, there is no controversy here. No one was upset in the least. Obama is not inconvenienced, he just asked if it was available before the 15th and it's not. Who would be upset by that? No one. Bush has been very good in the transition and Bush and Obama have done a great job of working together. I see Democrat and Republican LOVE for each other in the air.

We understand the philosophy of the two parties, and the reason there are the two parties is that both have philosophical pluses and minuses. If we only had republicans – we'd be in a mess like this. If we only had democrats we'd be in a different mess. We need compromise and common sense. That is why Obama is going to be so good. He's not about democrat or republican, he's about solving problems. Right now the problems need more democratic oriented solutions. BUSINESS needs democratic party solutions. Not republican laissez-faire.

Jim Hall, all of the Bush haters need to realize that he is not prohibited from resigning the presidency any time he desires. However, President-elect Obama cannot take office until noon on January 20. If Bush resigns, you get President Cheney. If he decides to go too, it's President Pelosi. No matter how far to the left one may be, that cannot possibly be considered a good idea. I will admit that this statement comes from someone somewhere to the right of Ronald Reagan. All that being said, why is this a story? Tradition apparently says Blair House is available on January 15. Nothing arrogant or presumptuous about Obama asking for early occupancy. Demanding it? Yes. But the article doesn't say that. To quote Linda Richmond, "No big whoop."
