Early Blair House check-in for Obamas unavailable

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="The Obamas had been hoping for an early Blair House check-in."]CHICAGO (CNN) - President-elect Barack Obama will not be moving his family across the street from the White House early, despite his request to do so. Blair House, which incoming presidents traditionally occupy 5 days before inauguration day on January 15, is apparently booked in the early part of January.

An Obama transition spokesperson says the family initially "explored the idea" of moving into Blair House early so that daughters Sasha and Malia could start school on schedule. But the family was told there were previously-scheduled events and guests that could not be displaced.

"The Blair House, the President's guest house for visiting dignitaries, is available to President-elect Obama and his family starting January 15, as is historically the case," said Sally McDonough, spokeswoman for First Lady Laura Bush.

"As for any conversation, I don't comment on specific conversations about transition details."

The Obama transition spokesperson emphasized the White House has been "extremely accommodating" to the Obama family, adding that the entire process has been "smooth and friendly."

This is an example of the media not being able to report anything negative that matters to the people so they resort to trying to ignite
a non existent snub. I guess the Obama's should have thought about
schools and such in their relentless and historically expensive run for the white house. They are not sending their kids to public school as
they think the public schools are substandard in D.C. , if they can afford the private schools , you think getting them to school should be
a minor problem for them. I guess the rest of us that work, pay taxes and drive our kids to public school have it made?

IS'NT America wonderful? , we can type, write and yell anything we want to on the internet. Now think about it , is this the reason that other countries want to blow us off the map. Just be glad that we can do all the things that other countries can't. WE NEED TO GROW UP and behave as adults not like 2 year olds.

Why does this man feel he is entitled to so much? I figured America was just suckered in by his wonderful personality, but he doesn't even have that. He is a cocky and conceited individual who thinks he can use the rest of us as a doormat. Wait your turn like everyone else!

I am hearing that Rahm Emanuel may have been taped having conversations about Obama's senate seat? Wooops! Trouble already....if we impeach Obama now it would settle this Blair house junk!

"President Bush had already scheduled the Blair House for the early part of January because it still BELONGS TO HIM UNTIL JANUARY 20TH!"

Your mis-understanding of how this country works is astounding to say the least.

This is not HIS house, it is OUR house that we permit him to live in or use. The president doesn't own these places, it's granted by the will of the people.

Like any Mom & Dad with school kids, the Obamas were hoping to get their kids settled before a semester. Why not let them? And as for the "mystery guests"–perhaps the situation should be run past them and maybe they would graciously agree to the St Regis (good enough for the Queen of England) or the new, spectacular Mandarin Oriental.

Otherwise it's Status Quo....this is why I voted for change!

oh its all of sudden booked. well lets see.. The people at the "BLAIR HOUSE" Knew even 3 years ago that around this time that a new President would be stepping in.. NO matter who it would have been. Hmm I wonder if it would have booked FOR MCCAIN and his family so they couldnt get in.. These people are ridiculous. Some people still cant except the fact he is president.. Hey obama they want you to book to motel down the street and use only the fountain that says "coloreds only"... so sad people stop sugar coating this we know what this is about.

It's obvious that Bush is waiting for Obama to offer the right sized bribe to move into Blair House. Duh.

    Elaine Quijano is a douche.

This is no more a story than my hemorrhoids. A look back on her recent "stories" indicates more of a social blogger than a White House correspondent.

This is only news to detract the sheeps attention from the scandal that could be linked back to Obama in Chicago. Quick sheep look at this injustice to Obama over here and forget about any wrong doings that could be linked to your saviour.

    @ Gerda Edwards

    Bitter much, Gerda??

You may not like the guy but all he's trying to do is get his kids in school went the spring session starts. He's a family man first. I thought Republicans were the "FAMILY VALUES" party. Guess that only applies if we're doing what YOU want or you can tear us apart for living with different family values.

Obama has earned the White House . Bush should hurry up and move to Dallas so he can spend his BLOOD money of the brave fighting military.

What is there to figure out on this one? They want to get settled so the kids can start school. Do you think the Secret Service is going to let them stay at a Holiday Inn Express?

Get real people. Remember when Bush complained that the CLinton's trashed the White House when they left? I say its time to throw the Bushes outin the street – let them get a taste of wheat people really think of them.

Are you kidding me! So much for family values and the position of President Elect! That house belongs to the people and whatever accomodations needed to be made so that the children of the President could start school on time and with as little "more" disruption as possible, should have been made!

Good ridance Bush's! Can't wait to see you leave!

Why all the focus on Caylee Anthony in CNN when other networks are carrying Obamas chief of staff involvement in Illinois Governor corruption scandal. Are we really to believe Obama hasn't had any third person contact in regards to who replaces him. Pleeeeeaaaase don't insult our intelligence. There's no change here just same old politics of greed and self serving cronyism attitudes. Resko knows the bribe that was given to Obama. The land quid pro quo bribe for his house was given back page coverage when whistle blower bank official said he was pressed to value the next door lot by changing to higher appraisal value so Rezko could pay higher to get better deal from same seller for Obama's house. Why doesn't CNN investigate this bribery of an government official? Bias: that is why.

Jo~The Blair House does NOT belong to President Bush. As far as your comment about Obama "trying to prove what he stands for – trying to give AND GET a bunch of free hand-me-outs"–if you read the article, it was for his children's sake.

Your bitterness over Obama's win is typical–spiteful with no direction other than a blast from any angle without any supporting facts.

    Obama won...get over it.

There is a policy regarding the Blair House and that is what the White House is doing. There is no reason why Obama's family has to be in the Blair House that early – they can rent a hotel with all the money he has left in his "war chest" from the election.

Wish the President Elect would give the money from the election to the government and that would help the economy so much!

I see nothing wrong with the President Elect family going to a hotel in Washington and taking the children to school by using a hotel to stay in for a few days. Believe it or not – he is NOT the President yet!

Let them wait their turn. You ain't the president yet, and shouldn't expect special treatment. There is a reason for this layed out transition period. There are plenty of kids who start school late because of moves.

No matter who you voted for, this is a dumb issue.

CNNs sensationalism in headlines and the drama queens like brown and other bimbos is a real turnoff. It's like an e-tabloid, and getting worse every day.

Fox is starting to look better and better.
