Obamas, Bidens to arrive in Washington by train

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/12/15/art.getty.dcinaug.jpg caption=" Preparations are underway for the 2009 Presidential Inauguration."](CNN) - The 2009 Presidential Inaugural Committee announced Monday that President-elect Barack Obama will travel by train to the nation’s capitol on January 17 from Philadelphia, but will stop along the way to host events in Baltimore, Maryland and Wilmington, Delaware – home of Vice President-elect Joe Biden.  The Obama and Biden families will arrive in D.C. on Saturday.

"As part of the most open and accessible Inauguration in history, we hope to include as many Americans as possible who wish to participate, but can't be in Washington," said Emmett S. Beliveau, Executive Director of the 2009 Presidential Inaugural Committee. "These events will allow us to do that while honoring the rich history and tradition of previous inaugural journeys."

The cities of Philadelphia, Wilmington, and Baltimore are especially significant as part of the 2009 Inauguration theme, ‘Renewing America’s Promise.”  According to the committee, the promise was realized in Philadelphia and defended and commemorated by the National Anthem in Baltimore. Washington, D.C serves as a gathering ground for Americans to unite and renew the promise, the committee said.

This is becoming more of a entrainment show than it is a inauguration event! It also seems that it is more about Barack Hussein Obama than our next President/ What is wrong with this image?

This event is or should be more about the American people than it is for Obama and his huge EGO! What a joke!

I wonder how much money this is all costing and why at a time when our great country is in a recession and heading for a depression?

It is just like the tickets being sold instead of free like it is supposed to be.

This is just so cool! It seems like such a long time since regular citizens were really included in these events. His acceptance speech in Grant Park and now the trip to Washington for his inauguration. I only wish I could participate along the route. But I'll be watching every minute that it's televised. This is going to be great!

AJ: Just don't go!! The fact that thousands upon thousands of people want to witness this indicates that it is not "ego" but a chance for Americans to celebrate a chance for a new future. You need to get over yourself!!

AJ – You need to blame the media for divulging information which you detest. The man is as humble as pie.

As regards their whistle stops – perhaps this will reinforce Obama's plan to upgrade our second grade railway system which pales in comparison to the Japanese Bullet, and Europe's TGV and AVE.

Those of us who wish the Obamas and Bidens well will pray for their safety; those of you who do not, we shall pray for you too.

It is unfortunate that the deaths of President Lincoln and Senator Bobby Kennedy comes to mind for some of you; the Obamas and the Bidens will be kept safe.

    Soccer Nana,

Of course they will be safe. They will have DOUBLE and TRIPLE the security any president has had before them.

I didn't vote for Obama, and I am not sure he will do a good job, but I certainly don't want harm to come to him or anyone else for that matter.

Obama Show-seriously, there are some medications for your condition.

See if this makes sense...all the problems this country are going through were not Obama's fault. He is not the president, he has not been in charge.
His role is to fix what the current clowns in power have done.
If he can't and does things wrong, criticize him. In the meantime, how about a nap?

Such hateful comments on here and so disrespectful....ignorance and the fact that PE Obama won is still irking many who come on here.
Well, it's too bad, he will have a wonderful day and the good majoritory of Americans will be watching and wishing him and his family well...it will be a very emotional and historic day for us who voted for him and we at least wish him nothing but Godspeed.

I think this is a wonderful idea. The 'people' will actually be able to see the 'people's president' ! I hope there's tv coverage of the trip as well as the inauguration.

To CNN : carry it continuously live and I'll be glued to my tv for as long as it unfolds ! A historic occasion for a historic president. Three cheers for President Obama and Veep Joe Biden.
