Obamas, Bidens to arrive in Washington by train

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption=" Preparations are underway for the 2009 Presidential Inauguration."](CNN) - The 2009 Presidential Inaugural Committee announced Monday that President-elect Barack Obama will travel by train to the nation’s capitol on January 17 from Philadelphia, but will stop along the way to host events in Baltimore, Maryland and Wilmington, Delaware – home of Vice President-elect Joe Biden.  The Obama and Biden families will arrive in D.C. on Saturday.

"As part of the most open and accessible Inauguration in history, we hope to include as many Americans as possible who wish to participate, but can't be in Washington," said Emmett S. Beliveau, Executive Director of the 2009 Presidential Inaugural Committee. "These events will allow us to do that while honoring the rich history and tradition of previous inaugural journeys."

The cities of Philadelphia, Wilmington, and Baltimore are especially significant as part of the 2009 Inauguration theme, ‘Renewing America’s Promise.”  According to the committee, the promise was realized in Philadelphia and defended and commemorated by the National Anthem in Baltimore. Washington, D.C serves as a gathering ground for Americans to unite and renew the promise, the committee said.

I think it's wonderful that PE Obama wants as many americans included in the inaugural event as possible. I seem to remember when they had Bob Kennedy's funeral, his casket rode from New York to Washington..... what's the big deal?

I think the train is great. Realize that once he is sworn in his travels will become secret too just like past presidents. The President is our most visible public official on the World stage. Populatity does not equal safety from nut jobs and terrorist. Announcing the route is very dangerous. I feel this will be one of the last times you will see something like this.

Give me a break! Just another black family moving into government housing and think they have to have a parade. Wait until he parades all his "cronies" from the Chicago machine into DC. You koolaid drinkers will be sorry then, and, now Blago is going down, Rezko has no gov in his pocket and boy oh boy, he'll start singing like a canary! Oh just wait and see, Nobama's sidekicks and cronies will throw him under the bus!! Payback for all the people he's thrown under the bus.

In war there are no winners or losers. It's a shame that any one would throw a shoe at any one let alone be The President of USA. This goes to show that we have lost our respect in the rest of the world. The Iraqi's have lost their entity as a nation their culture and above all their soul. This act of indecency says it all.

Obama's not elitist or egotistical, right? Right? No, a victory lap is hardly the stuff of ego.

How did that quote from the staff go when it was learned that Hillary's appointment violated the Constitution? "A Harvard Law grad nominated a Yale Law grad so they clearly are aware of the issue." Clearly not, but the staff made it clear that there are Harvard Law grads and Yale law grads involved.

(and FWIW, I beat (professionally) the snot out of HLS and YLS grads on a weekly basis)

Since most of the comments I read have little to do with the article I thought I'd add something appropriate.
The O. Transition Team knows that turnout in DC is going to be overwhelming for the city. They also know that they have a chance to do things different and show that they are serious about changing the way the American government works. Every public appearance Obama and Biden make are strengthening their case for change. This type of inauguration is also a motivating mechanism for their party and the American public.
I applaud their efforts and hope that a bigger majority of Americans can serve America by aligning themselves with President-Elect's plans for our country.

A nation in a depression, yet those in Washington D.C. still spending. Not the change I expected. you expect the man to walk? Geesh! People would complain if he did, because he's putting a strain on the SS manpower, if he drove, he's endorsing the gas companies/the auto gurus, if he flies, he's an elitist-come on folks! I cannot see how you can complain about a person who hasn't even taken office yet. I think it's ridiculous.
What I also think is ridiculous is the fact that everyone–the media included-is expecting him to make a statement during an ongoing investigation against the IL gov. our hunger for information is sometimes what makes things worse.

Obama ought to charge an admision price of $50 per head and use that towards bailing out the big three auto makers.

Oh, boy. Welcome to the Obama Show is back with his/her shouting! Woooweeee. I think what happened was that WTOS is incarcerated, probably in a mental hospital and was sent to some sort of isolation for misbehavior and is now back in the common room, where there are computers for the "resident's" use.

Now take you meds and be a good little boy or girl.

I want snipers and SWAT on the roof of that train. And a fully armed S.S. detail on board. If he's coming in on Rail-Force-One, it better be the armored train from "Goldeneye."
