CHICAGO (CNN) - President-elect Barack Obama will name former Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack as his secretary of Agriculture at a news conference scheduled for Wednesday, according to an Obama transition aide and a separate Democratic source.
Vilsack was a high profile supporter of Hillary Clinton during the presidential primaries after he briefly sought the Democratic presidential nomination.
Obama and Vilsack were rivals for the Democratic nomination for just under two weeks.
That would qualify for his Change Promise
Put in the Clintons former administration and Hilary. Bah Hum bug!!
That is not change. Rather the same old good boy's net work.
Obama campained on change and so fare we are not seeing much of it. Hope for better
I think this is a good pick.
Iowa is an agriculture state and that is a good pick!
That's good. He owes the state of Iowa something for their support and kindness. This state set an example I only hope many others will follow.
Accomodating Americans of different views is a good sign for American Public!
People, people! We are ALL Americans who want the best for our country. Sometimes is "our" party "in power," sometimes it's not.
Can we all just "bury the hatchet" and move forward. If this particular "forward" turns out to be good — GREAT! If not, we'll change course AGAIN — as we have so many, many times before.
WE ARE AMERICA — THE SHINING CITY ON THE HILL!!!!!!
Happy Holidays to ALL my fellow Americans, of whatever polictical party affiliation!!
Since Democratic presidential candidates are all getting cabinet posts, why not nominate Dennis Kucinich to head the Department of Peace?
That is a Department that is long, long overdue
as long asw this pick does as he is soppose to and makes things better for america,, then i trust obamas pick,,, we neeed people we can trust to do the right thing and not corrupt then inevetable,,,,
Trust CNN to point out the rivalries and completely overlook his qualifications for the job!! Looks like as usual PE obama is looking at the best person rather than the usual practice of awarding loyalty!! Change we can believe in!!
Enough already. Go ahead and disqualify Obama and put Joe Biden in as Prez. So he can select Hillary as VP. All these Clinton picks are not change but a smoke screen for bringing back the past. Got to hand to you democrats, that’s was the best red herring campaign I’ve seen run in a long time!
I think it is funny there are four bottles of Bud Light in this picture.
THIS WILL KEEP IOWA HAPPY.PRESIDENT ELECT IS SETTING THE TABLE FOR 2012 ELECTIONS FROM NOW.
Great pick! We miss your leadership Governor Vilsack.
Another one bites the dust!
finally my Hawkeye state got the seat in the cabinet.I think Tommy whom I admired and meet many times during his governorship will be very excellent secretary of Agriculture. If you donnot
think so, just go and visit the hawkeye state for yourself with job well done by this coldblooded servant of public figure.I think with the guy like Tommy Vilsack who is the native of the corn state like Iowa I can just the smell "CHANGE" from my own backyard.
Anyway Go Bobcats of Marshalltown Iowa.
I agree with Buckeye.
Kucinich for Dept of Peace.
Vilsack for SOA sound good to me since he is from the Hawkeye state which is agricultural state anyway.
Go Bobcats of Marshalltown!!
Another shady pick.... shadiness!!!
Well said RJ!
Way to go Obama. These are kind of people we need which Bush lacked 8 years ago to head our federal government instead he chosen to brought all the last cowboys of Texans with him to the Whitehouse.
great choice!
I am saddened by this choice. I have been optimistic and supportive of Obama's moderate choices but was very much hoping this would be a position that he would fill with a serious reformer. Our current farming culture is pathetic and directly affects all aspects of our lives as Americans. We need a sec. of Ag that can affect some real change, get farmers growing vegetables again, and get people eating local food. Sad.
Why all the whining for goodness sakes? These are some terrific Cabinet picks. Geez, just about ANYONE beats the Bush admin.!!
Hooray! An appointee from the most ethanl-bloated state in the country to oversee all the agriculture. Are you kidding me, President-elect Obama? When is the public going to wake up and see that ethanol is a problem and not a solution? While Obama has made some good picks, this one, along with Holder, is the worst so far.
🙂 Let's see... no connection whatsoever to Horse Shows. No connection to Beauty Queen judging. Have not heard judgement on his sexuality. Is not related to Obama or from his fraternity from University. In fact, I have not even heard about Obama's fraternity connects now that I think about it. Sounds like a pretty intelligent guy... as opposed to.... well, say for example.... Bush or McCain..... just for arguments sake.
Yeah... he might be good in the post. I will trust Obama to make that calculation. When you are highly intelligent and well educated in an important post like say, the Presidency, I think it only stands to reason that he MIGHT want to surround himself with other people who are also highly intelligent and well-educated.... That just seems logical to me.... unlike the logic of our present fearless leader! *LOL*
