White House press secretary sports black eye

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="Perino joked reporters are no longer able to wear shoes to press conferences."]

(CNN) - Who knew being White House press secretary was such a dangerous job?

While President Bush emerged from the weekend's now-infamous shoe attack in Iraq without a scratch, press secretary Dana Perino appears to be a little worse for wear.

Perino was sitting to the side of the president when an Iraqi journalist threw his shoes at him Sunday.  She was inadvertently hit by a microphone as the president's Secret Service agents responded and officials scrambled to wrestle the journalist to the ground.

The full effects of the accident were clear at Tuesday's White House daily briefing, where Perino sported a bruise below her right eye and scratch just above the eyebrow.

"The shoe check-in and check-out policy will begin tomorrow," Perino joked.

Chi Town has it correct. You should take it a little farther though. Liberals should thank President Bush for preserving their rights to sound like total idiots.

History will show Saddam killing everyone that opposed him and then showing President Bush in Iraq having a shoe thrown at him. That shoe is living proof, we liberated that country. Oh yeah, he kept us safe after 9/11.

I support our President elect regardless of our differences, did you ever support your President the last eight years?

Sorry about the black eye… but what a great day that was.
Freedom has arrived in Iraq… Under Saddam he wouldn't have dared do this… and would have been killed, his family stripped of all wealth and jailed or killed as well. As it is… the man was able to publicly protest without loss of life…

To the man who threw the shoe "Sir, you are very welcome"!

The journalist in question must not be much of a writer because any reporter will tell you that the pen is mightier than the sword or the shoe. Perhaps he resorted to throwing shoes because he's a sorry writer. It's too bad that it wasn't Reagan dodging the shoes and then ad libbing, "I guess he got tired of sticking them in his mouth. I suppose you want them back. Come on up here so that I can give them back to you." Seriously I'm surprised that a reporter that has been kidnapped by insurgents is throwing shoes at our President. What do you think would happen if he threw shoes at the King of Jordan, a Saudi royal, the President of Iran or the late Saddam Hussein? He would be lucky if he had two feet left.

You people are nasty. Do your research and find out this guys was a Baathist who supported Saddam. What he did throwing those shoes was terrible. Under Saddam he'd be dead already. I can imagine all you who try to justify these actions would be beside yourselves is this had been Obama. No one should be allowed to disrespect the U.S. President internationally no matter if you agree with our president or not! If I didn't like one of you people, would it be ok for me to take off my shoes and wack you with them? If so, Bush haters, get in line, I'd be glad to take out my frustrations and hurl some shoes at you then rejoice at your black eyes.

Funny how that guy wouldn't be able to even throw a shoe in Saddam's era without being killed, his family imprisoned, etc. Just goes to show how people never focus on positives and go to the negatives, just like the majority of the media's coverage.

Like most middle easterners and asians, muslims generally do not wear shoes in their homes. It is also true that if you use your foot to point to something, it is an insult. So are the acts of showing the soles of your shoes to someone, and throwing a shoe at them. Sort of like slapping a person to challenge him to a duel.

What got me most was that the president hid behind Maliki. If he was the baseball player he thinks he is, he should have caught the shoes.

Given the animosity of the average Iraqi toward this country, and especially toward the president, it really doesn't seem too far out of line. Everyone should be thankful it wasn't a couple of grenades.

If she had only ducked like Bush, she would not of had a black eye today. Hope she learned her lesson...either duck or get out the way. Nuff said.

Apparently the journalist lost family members/relatives during the war and he himself was kidnapped and tortured last year.

I don't think he was trying to hurt Bush. He was making a statement and in his culture, what he did is a huge insult.

He has obviously seen and been through quite a lot and from his perspective I suppose this action was to show his pain. And he represents the thousands affected horribly by the war.

I agree that Saddam was despot- however I don't think this war was the best way to address is atrocities and "free" a people. Obviously there were other reasons as well for why the war happened and sadly too many innocent people were caught in the crossfire.

The article said she was inadvertently hit by a microphone as the President's secret service men responded. Evidently, they weren't that close to him when the shoe was thrown. Too bad it missed. That Bush sure has quick reflexes. Got to give him some credit.

To those of you who say he has kept us safe and we haven't been attacked since 9/11 – what do you call what we are going through now? This country is bankrupt and it's getting worse. This man has been the worse steward of our country in its history. This useless war has used up all our money, military and respect. You think Bin Laden has lost? Think again. He has succeeded in bringing us into two wars and our economy stinks. That was Bin laden's goal and he actually has succeeded, sad to say.

As much as I despise the president, I do take exception to someone trying to hurt him. I think he is the devil, but he is our(USA) devil. Further, I am happy he is ok.

I trust the press sect will be ok, but I doubt she will get an apology from the reporter who caused the problem. It is my understanding that men in that part of the world don't have a lot of respect for females.

    to "libs be dopes"

You must mean to say that Barack Obama is a Muslim.
And, on that, you are incorrect. However, you must also
mean that in a derogatory way somehow.

How can you be a Muslim and pray five times a day and
not be a good person? Many, many good people in this world are
Muslim and may God bless them all.

You, however, are a dim-witted moron for implying hate
when saying something you obviously know nothing about.

It is time all people (yes, Muslim, too) work together, hand
in hand, to fix the ignorance in this world. An ignorance you
    so proudly display.

This will never happen when Obama is in office. Obama will bring us all closer and we will have that warm fuzzy feeling, knowing that once again the world loves us as it once did. Remember when the Muslims celebrated our diversity and everything was tolerated. Jews walking hand in hand with Muslims. Christians able to voice there opinions in the streets of Tehran. It was a happier world then and I have a dream that soon we will be seeing that kind of love again. Yes we can people Yes we can!

Wish I had something funny or witty to say, some of these posts are hilarious. I will just say I have often wanted to throw things at the t.v. when Pres. Bush appears. I am glad no one got hurt, but the show thrower was awesome. He summed up all the worlds frustration in 2 shots, even if he missed he made his point.

I almost feel sorry for Bush, his future will be very hard with all the hatred he inspires. I said almost.

She's a Republican woman... she ought to be used to black eyes by now. Never knew a Republican guy who didn't smack his wife or girlfriend around a little... it's part of their inadequacy thing. Y'know, like the SUV's, guns, and the other "covering up the fact that I'm a gutless wimp" stuff they do.

G.W.Bush in an interview admitted that al Queda only came to Iraq after the invasion. AND that there were approximately 850 of them. So he justifies killing one hundred thousand Iraqi military, women and children and over four thousand of your own people, to kill these terrorists and to unseat the unfair Saddam. What a poor joke. Saddam Hussein would not allow terrorists in Iraq and when he caught them, he executed them.

That proves that Bush/Cheney had their own agenda for this whole debacle they call a war. They are the terrorists. They sent your military to take over a country for their oil rights and put your good men and women of the military in danger for greed. Now they have to suffer the consequences of their stupidity. The U. S. Military is the best in the world and now they are hated. Bush and Cheney should be arrested and tried as war criminals in the Hague for the violations of international law that they are admitting to this week. They are no better than Hitler was when he took over Poland and then the rest of Europe. They will have their comeuppance.

I hope they rot in hell.

Bush has kept your butts safe for the last 7 years. At least he has kept the fighting over there and not here. We will see within the next 4 years if we still have that same security. You people applauding this man has lost all your pride, if you have ever had any.
