WASHINGTON (CNN) - President-elect Barack Obama has chosen former Dallas Mayor Ron Kirk as U.S. Trade Representative, according to one Democratic official.
YES! I am so excited. Ron Kirk helped "BOOM" Dallas into what it is today. We are not experiencing the economic disaster on the same level as other cities and states.
Ron Kirk, congrats!

That was a real ignorant comment you made. Ron Kirk is a Democrat, and was a great Mayor. I have lived in Dallas most of my life, and trust me, the majority does not like George Bush. He will not be welcomed here with opened arms when he moves in. Dallas has become a liberal city, and has voted Democratic for a while now. Congrats Ron, I know you will do well!

Good.
The last time I checked, Texas is the worlds 4th leading economy, behind;
1) United States
2) China
3) Japan
4) Texas
so that should help.

Remember all that talk about the great "Team of Rivals" that Barack was supposed to appoint? You know, the one that was supposed to remind everyone of Lincoln's cabinet? Uh.... right. He did keep Gates, but I don't think he has appointed anyone else that was even close to having a differing view on the world.... geez.

Good choice. I live in the Dallas area and Ron Kirk is a very good appointment. He was mayor for several years and was responsbile for bringing a lot of business to the area. He is also a good man!

Mayor Kirk of Dallas (who also ran unsuccessfully against John Cornyn for Senate) has been a strong supporter of P.E. Obama since the beginning of the campaign. He was a good mayor of Dallas and will be a good trade rep.
Dallas is a little blue island in north Texas (y'all). Kerry won Dallas city by 10 points. Obama won Dallas county by 17.

He ran for senate in texas (an impossible challenge for a dem) a couple years back and did considerably well. Honorable guy - refused to run any negative campaigns.

As Mayor of Dallas, Ron Kirk did an excellent job, and if he didn't get this job, would probably been elected Senator to replace Kay Bailey Hutchinson. He is a very competent business man and leader.
