Biden starting to raise profile

VP-elect Biden will play a key role by leading the meeting to help pass the stimulus package.

VP-elect Biden will play a key role by leading the meeting to help pass the stimulus package.

(CNN) - CNN has learned that Vice President-elect Joe Biden will chair a meeting of the transition team's top economic advisers on Tuesday, as the incoming administration ramps up its efforts to piece together an urgent economic recovery package and try to sell the expected $775 billion plan to Congress.

Two Democratic officials told CNN the meeting at the Washington transition headquarters will include Lawrence Summers, President-elect Barack Obama's pick to chair the National Economic Council, a key policymaking arm within the White House that will be charged with formulating the new administration's response to the financial crisis.

The fact that Biden is leading the meeting suggests the incoming Vice President will play a key role in helping to pass the stimulus package. That's significant because Biden's low profile in recent days has sparked speculation that he will be sidelined in the new administration, especially since his strongest asset - foreign policy - is going to be largely handled by Secretary of State-designate Hillary Clinton.

But Biden himself said during the campaign that he was not seeking any specific task, and would not cut as wide a swatch as Vice President Cheney. Instead Biden said during the vice presidential debate that he would focus more broadly on using his four decades of experience in the U.S. Senate helping Obama govern by move legislation through Congress.

"I have a history of getting things done in the United States Senate," Biden said during his one debate with Republican Gov. Sarah Palin. "John McCain would acknowledge that. My record shows that, on controversial issues. I would be the point person for the legislative initiatives in the United States Congress for our administration."

After being conspicuously quiet in the early weeks of the transition, Biden is suddenly raising his profile to selling an expensive economic plan to lawmakers suffering from sticker shock after one government bailout after another. He appeared on his first Sunday talk show as Vice President-elect this wekeend by going on ABC's "This Week" to declare that bolder action is needed now to prevent the economy from "absolutely tanking" at this point.

The Biden Tour continues Monday night on CNN's "Larry King Live," where Biden will again declare that he's planning to be "counselor-in-chief" rather than having overarching power on any specific issues.

I doubt anyone, after watching Obama's campaign and transition, would really think Biden was going to sit on the sidelines in the administration.

Now the Governor of California wants a Bailout....Isn't that something ?
But if Bush did not give out all of our money to those Idiots, (AIG etc / etc / automakers / etc ) Arnold would not be "running out of money" in 70 days.....NOW, EVERYONE will want a "Bailout" and will make up whatever excuse, and say "we only have ___ days til we run out"
This will go on & on & on......They should have let the "chips fall where they may" whomever goes down, goes down, whomever stays in the Black, then they will be the ones who will SURVIVE !!!

  4. B.O. by any other name is still b.o.

I wonder how they plan to pay for all this spending they promised not to do and taxes they promised not to raise?

Let see, 2 promises broken, how many more to come and they haven't even taken office yet.

I think Obama needs an lessor on how the economy works because he sure know how to look straight into the camera and lie and then blame it on someone else.

This is the change we expected.

Desperate times need desperate measures. This new leadership will either make this country great again leading to unprecedented prosperity or to a total collapse .... let's pray for the BEST ...

Joe Biden is not raising his profile, he is raising his foot so he can more easily insert it in his mouth. Mr Talkathon is going to a regular on SNL skits and a favorite for bloops and inappropriate remarks.

Hey Joe, do you still think we ought to retreat from Iraq and divide the country into four parts: Sunni, Shiite, Kurds, and Al Queda?

Wake up America, you have Mr. Booper as your VP

of course he will play the role of pressuring Congress to do their job that is one of the things VPs used to do before cheney and the "Rubber-stamp" Congress. Again it is good to see the President elect surround himself with smart people and than use all the people around him! Smart President we elected!

So, Mr. Bluster's gonna be a bigshot in the BHO gangster administration??. He couldn't find his own backside with Sacajewa & 15 Garmins.
He's irrelevant, as always. But at least he's not on the Windy City take. Yet.

Biden is a fool. He doesn't know what the VP's Constitutional duties are. He doesn't know what Artilcle 1 says. He thinks FDR was President in 1929. With the economy on the precipice and the world jittery, he anounces this week the the economy is about to "totally tank". He's an idiot. Every sane person in America (i.e. Republican) is praying that Obama will remain healthy for the next 4 years. Biden is dumber than John Edwards.

To Larry – like y'all in Texas, us up here in Montana don't seem to be having that California problem. The Governator also wants to be president, which, of course, he can't. Thank goodness that the hot mess the GOP has made of our nations finances is coming to an end!

It was CNN and the rest of the media who tried to downplay VP elect Biden's role. He and PE Obama have always stated that he will have a large role in the decisions and discussions in the upcoming administration.

Geez, maybe one of them will tell Joe , you betcha it is worse than most of you politicians thought, because it sure did not effect your pay raises.

I was closed out on the comments for Palin wishing she had more interviews so I'm posting here
Why is she still around? ...when is your daughter getting married and if pepole are opposing this question being asked is because we know how big a liar she is.Her daughter and son both were on drugs and had this been Obama it would have been all over the news.I'm sure there was people in Obama's campaign knew this but Obama stayed with his family values and said when Palin hit the campaign trail and the media wanted to go after her he said the families were off limits.Well it's too bad she didn't show him the same respect that she would say that he had known terriost in his living room planning his campaign.Obama has two young girls and a wife that he loves more than life and for her to insinuate that he would jepordize his family lives having a terriost in his home. What Ayers did was when Obama was younger than his oldest daughter and what she said just goes to show how stupid she is.And who needs a president that intice hate among their own american people. No! she don't deserve air time no more that she deserves to be president or vice president. The choice of Palin was a joke to the country d**m after talking to Katie Couric and that comedian whom she thought was the president of France if she took the time and looked and listen to those reruns she should be glad she didn't have anymore interviews that she already had because those two were catostrophic enough not to mention the others

Thank You Joe Biden for being our Vice President. Those of us who have watched and admired your political work over these many years were so thrilled when Barack Obama picked YOU to help him run this run down country. IF any team can do it, you two can.. I would ask you though, not to feel to sorry for W because I think alot of us voters are going to try to get him and darth vader put in jail, which is really to good for the likes of them anyway. They need to be hung...
So Joe, please help us voters as much as you legally can and we in turn will remember you are a great politician and leader.

  25. 29 Days to Go!!

CNN has become just another negative news source along with a constant stream of whining, complaining comments on their blog. We turned off The Situation Room because no matter what the topic, everything was presented in a negative slant.

Back to PBS and foreign press to actually find out what is going on in the country and the world with facts taking the forefront rather than the spin of overpaid pundits!!!
