Obama team to release Blagojevich report by Tuesday

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="A report on Emanuel’s contact with Blagojevich will be released by Tuesday, say aides."](CNN) - The Obama transition team is planning to release a report by tomorrow detailing contact between his staff and embattled Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, transition aides tell CNN.

The president-elect himself is not expected to comment publicly on the results of the internal investigation, which reportedly detail one conversation between President-elect Obama’s chief of staff Rahm Emanuel and Blagojevich, and several others between Emanuel and the governor’s top aide.

The Illinois governor was arrested earlier this month on charges of attempting to sell Obama’s Senate seat.

Blagojevich complained during one conversation recorded by the FBI that Obama and his aides were unwilling to compensate him for naming a candidate of their choosing to the seat.

U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald in Chicago has said that Obama was not a target of the investigation. Sources have also told CNN that Emanuel has not been implicated in the case.

So much for transparency.. You people that try to spin this are pathetic groupies. A bush 2 is in the making and it's Obama.

The attempts to link Obama and his staff to Blagojevich alleged crimes by the RNC and the press are transparently contrived for political purposes or to gain market share. We've been through eight years of shady dealings. If Pelosi and Reid were capable of doing their jobs, hundreds of investigations would be underway where real crimes against the american people have occured.

I love how people write, "I heard.".., or "the way I interpret". Nobody posting comments on this page knows what happened. We still won't know even after Obama's team announces the results of their internal investigation.

And to those who think Obama had nothing to gain from working with Blago to appoint someone to that seat, you are sorely mistaken. I'm not saying they were involved in any of the corruption because I certainly hope they weren't, but Obama's administration had a lot to gain by putting a close ally in that seat.

This would be a non-issue if Obama had not stated that there was NO CONTACT between his team and Blago's. Any reasonable person knows that it would be irresponsible for there not to be some contact – if for nothing else, transition purposes. It was Obama's off-the-cuff denial that is the problem. I hope he learns to get the facts straight before he does this next time. It would help if there was a critical press to remind him!

It is interesting that a majority of the negative comments about our P.E. and the Democratic Party in general all begin in the morning and end by 5:00 p.m. Then, it is the usual commentors.

Hang in the Mr. Emanuel. He didn't take the bait. Had he replied "How much do you want?" then he would have been guilty. But he didn't. Instead Jarret was moved out of the running and into the Whitehouse. He kept her safe. There are tons of sharks in politics. The key is being able to swim amongst them because you have to work with them, but not become one of them. It takes great skill to do so, and I do believe Emanuel to have just that skill. I think he's a keeper.

Lots of woulda, shoulda, coulda from the brain dead regurgitators of right wing hate and conspiracy folks today. How many times will you guys need to be told the truth before you can beleive it? Have the lies of your hero curious George numbed you to it? Why do you hold so steadfastly to your idiotic conspiricies? I have come to think that you all have no real ideas only those that the AM radio puts in your head. No ability to rationalize or even to use critical thinking (have you even heard of such things?). Such good sheep but poor excuses for humanbeings. So wallow in your discontent and self loathing leave the real work of fixing the mess that was created by your monkey leader to the grown ups and by all means get off of your mommys

typical...from reading some of the posts, i see that people are still bitter...when are we going to move beyond this stupidity? Okay, so your candidate did not win the election...does that mean that you are going to take every chance you can to smear Obama? From what I've seen, he is making brilliant choices for his cabinet...someone with this much sense doesn't strike me as being foolish enough to get caught up in this scandal...same goes for Rahm Emanuel. They are not dummies...dummies.

Fitzgerald said there is nothing that ties this mess to Obama. Emmanuel spoke to the Govenor. That is not unusual, big deal!. If people are looking for someone to put on the grill for improper behavior, you need not look any further than Larry Craig, Dick Cheney, Alberto Gonzalez, George W. Bush...

Until there is evidence of wrongdoing on the part of the Obama campaign, relax. If you really want to protect America from scoundrels, well take your pick from the list started above and turn up the heat on them!

Well, now that the Democrats just spent the last four (or eight) years sabatoging our country by working against President Bush

What? Are you nuts Chris? Bush is the one that upset Dem's plans to fix this broken country by using his veto every time they tried to fix something. Pull your head out of the sand!

One thing Fox and some of the Obama haters have forgotten is that President-Elect is not just vacationing in Hawaii but that this is the first time since his beloved grandmother's death that he will truly have an opportunity to grieve. Mr. Obama is the best of all those who ran for the Presidency. Of course, Mr. Obama's people would speak with the governor of Illinois who would be responsible for naming a replacement, just a it is with Senitor Clinton's seat. Mr. Obama said he himself did not speak to the governor and that is true. He also said that his people did not do anything inappropriate. Mr. Obama suggesting a candidate is not out of line. Ms. Jarrett obviously removed her name from the list. Absolutely nothing wrong. The Chief of Staff should stay because due to his no-holds-bar reputation, they would prefer if PE Obama gets a wimp as his Chief of Staff.

Hmm I didn't read anything that calls into question Rahm Emmanuel. In fact, no facts to my knowledge calls anything into question but that goofy Governor and it reminds me of Kwame Kilpatrick when he said to the citizenry "I ain't gonna quit ya". Blag says he will "fight, fight, fight", someone needs to tell him, please don't .. just leave for the good people of Chicago and give us a friggin break. 🙂

The media should really report everything. Emanuel spoke with Blago regarding candidates to fill Obama vacancy. There were no wheeling and dealing in this conversation. All Blago got was a thank you. This is why Blago was so mad in one of his taped conversation because Obama and team would not wheel and deal with him. This is why he cursed Obama in his tape conversation!! Bleep Bleep!! remembering they wore that out!! The bottom line is Obama is doing what people asked and that is release documentations and he will be doing that on tomorrow. So, maybe they can come up with an new story after that!! People use common sense and get facts. Everything that add up is that Obama and team did nothing wrong but standard procedures to fill the seat!!

So far the only person we know for sure that did not tell the truth is the PE. As reported right here on CNN, he publicly stated that no one on his team had any contact with the Gov on this issue. He most certainly knew that to be false before he said it. I don't think there was any need for him to say anything. Is it possible that the new PE is even stupider than #43?

WOW! It amazes me how you blood thirsty right wing 1st term voters decided to keep up with an election for the first time and now you consider everything to be a conspiracy or cover up...

Ok, you hate Obama, democrats, or anyone who you feel are baby killing atheists. The truth is you just hate anything that does not have republican on it... I have not seen a nation this divided since we were contemplating integrated schools. It's funny how people have stood even stronger now that we have actually integrated the White House.

People, change will only come will "WE ALL" are willing to except or welcome it. You can find some dirt in everyone's history, but that should not be a direct reflection of the employer. If Emmanuel really did do something wrong in his past then he needs to answer to it. At this point, I'm having hard time blaming anyone but the greedy govenor who couldn't get ANYONE to pay him money for a senate seat. We should have been made if he managed to sell the seat, not just attempt to sell...

    December 22, 2008 01:15 pm at 1:15 pm |

To all of you who were so quick to throw stones at Senator Clinton and put down anyone but the "one"... Here it begins, there will be four years of speeches diverting us from all of the lies and cover-ups...

We were promised "No more politics as usual" and I am quite sure, we will have nothing but politics as usual...

We may have chosen the wrong "one".

I think people know that Obama and team had nothing to do with Blago mess. The fact of the matter is that they want something so bad on Obama to taint his Presidency!! Too bad they did not use that same energy against this administration. They should be investigated to the fullest!!

It's Rahm's job to speak to Blago. There's no issue here.

Like the report said, Team Obama wouldn't cut a deal with Blago.

All you Republican ferrets on meth need to go to de-tox and then Democracy re-education camp.

You Republican wackos are all so full of hate for America you are all in danger of becoming traitors to America.

I'm holding out speculation on what happened and not jumping to conclusions one way or the other until the reports come out as far as what really happened.

My big question is, why is everybody so freaked about what the Governor did? Does anybody really, truly believe that this doesn't happen in government ALL THE TIME?

Why is this any different than Senators our Representatives saying "I'm not going to sign that bill unless you add this $20 million dollar pork project for me"? (Which will in-turn make these constituents of mine happy so they will donate more money for my next campaign.)

First of all, whoever said they did not vote for Obama because he is corrupt or crooked, ah NEWS FLASH – You must plan to never vote again because Obama is certainly no worse than any other person who has ran for POTUS or anyone who ended up in the White House. Furthermore, Obama is not under investigation, he has done nothing wrong. He gave his preference, but did not make any deals and did not dispatch any of his people to make a deal. It is crazy to continue and try to tie Obama to every corrupt person in Ilinois. Not only is Obama innocent, he has been honest from the beginning. Too bad you won't be able to pin this one on him, I am sure you haters will keep trying though. Get a life!
