Rice: People will thank Bush for what he's done

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice says 'there is no greater honor than to serve this country.'"]

(CNN) - Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said that despite President Bush's low approval ratings, people will soon "start to thank this president for what he's done."

So we can sit here and talk about the long record, but what I would say to you is that this president has faced tougher circumstances than perhaps at any time since the end of World War II, and he has delivered policies that are going to stand the test of time," Rice said in an interview that aired on CBS' "Sunday Morning."

The secretary of state brushed off reports that suggest the United States' image is suffering abroad. She praised the administration's ability to change the conversation in the Middle East.

"This isn't a popularity contest. I'm sorry, it isn't. What the administration is responsible to do is to make good choices about Americans' interests and values in the long run - not for today's headlines, but for history's judgment," she said.

"And I am quite certain that when the final chapters are written and it's clear that Saddam Hussein's Iraq is gone in favor of an Iraq that is favorable to the future of the Middle East; when the history is written of a U.S.-China relationship that is better than it's ever been; an India relationship that is deeper and better than it's ever been; a relationship with Brazil and other countries of the left of Latin America, better than it's ever been ...

"When one looks at what we've been able to do in terms of changing the conversation in the Middle East about democracy and values, this administration will be judged well, and I'll wait for history's judgment and not today's headlines."

Asked by CBS' Rita Braver why some former diplomats say Americans are disliked around the world, Rice said that's "just not true."

  1. Give me a break!

And one more thing...Bush didn't beat the Dems. His brother and K. Harris STOLE it for him in 2000 (good ole home state), and Rove did the same for him in OH in 2004.

WOW Condi must have started smoking some strong stuff if she believes that statement. Now if she were to make this statement on 21 January, I would agree with her that I would thank him for what he has done. I WOULD THANK HIM FOR LEAVING OFFICE ON THE DAY BEFORE. I am very supportive of Pres. Bush. I would even help him pack.

Well lets see: anti-American sentiments if up around the globe due to Bush's war on Iraq based on lies to which Rice was a part, the worlds' economy is upside down in part due to Bush, the American economy is in the toilet on Bushes watch, American drowned in the Katrina disaster while Bush flew overhead, and Bush had no clue what to do on 911 while the World Trade Center was being brought down, Americans have been spied on left and right, America championed torture...MAY I GO ON??? And we the people will thank Bush for what he has done Condi Rice?! This would be laughable if it were not criminal what this gang has done to America and America's image. Notice how Bush, Laura, and now Condi are now out in force trying to paint a good picture of George Bush's presidency which everyone knows has been a FAILURE FROM BEGINNING TO END!

Thank him.....thank him for what exactly??? Getting us into a trumped up war and thousands of unnecessary lives market crash....wall street bail workers bail out....oh yes, we sure have a lot to thank Bush for alright!!!
Those who still think Bush has been a great President must be living in another country and watching events unfold from afar as they surely can't be seeing the same as the rest of us who live here in the US!!!!!
I don't want to call Bush any names unlike some of these less than intelligent people who come on here and refer to PE Obama as the Messiah, a sure sign of sour grapes that the more popular and intelligent man won the election over McCain.

Yes...thank you Mr. Bush for killing countless people and sending this nation into a war we didn't need to be in. Thank you for running up the national debt and for sinking the economy. Thank you for being a war criminal, and thank you for being a complete idiot when it comes to knowing how to run a country.

Is that what Ms. Rice wanted?

I'll thank Mr. Bush when pigs fly and hell freezes over!

    01/20/09 can't come soon enough!!!

Iraq? Did she forget about Iraq? And the fact that we never should have gone to war there in the first place? And how the war has inflated the national deficit to insane levels?

I have been living in Europe all of Bush's presidency, always identified myself as a republican. Hoever Miss Rice could not of gotten wrong. When you force, manipulate, lie to get your way you never win.

The things happening to the country and the world now are attributate to the Bush's policy. I wonder if his last name was Smith, George Smith where would he be today in the world, unemployed? Asking for a bail out.

Good riddance to Bust and Rice, perphaps the worst secretary of state ever.

It's sad but Ms. Rice retains the same blind devotion that has led us into this mess. The future will not be kind to George W. Bush and/or his cohorts.

Name one time, ever, that Ms. Rice disagreed publicly with her boss. Agreeing to disagree is part of the game but agreeing to always agree is folly.

Rice can use all the smoke and mirrors she wants to put a positive spin on Bush's presidency. The fact remains that he, with the help of his brother and a network of 'good old boys', stole the 2000 election and was ultimately appointed president by a supreme court packed with conservatives by previous Republican presidents.

Characteristic of his presidency is one dismal failure after another: failed domestic policiy, failed homeland security, failed foreign policy.

I can sum up my feelings about bush and his adminiistration in two words: GOOD RIDDANCE!

"a relationship with Brazil and other countries of the left of Latin America, better than it's ever been …"

    Say what?

The fact that the US has the relations it does with Brazil is due to benign neglect, certainly not because of any effort on part of the Bush Administration. And as often as the US trades insults with 'other countries of the left' I'd hardly call those relations 'better'.

I can't wait until these people leave their bubble...they are in for a hock

I hope when they are writing new psychology textbooks they give as examples of cognitive dissonance this statement by Rice & the statements by Laura Bush about how her husband is this great leader and all the rest of the self-deceptive nonsense coming out these people.
