Leading Democrat: Bush 'the worst president we've ever had'

WASHINGTON (CNN) – As the nation prepares for the inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama, a leading Democrat is not letting up in his criticism of President George W. Bush.

“I really do believe President Bush is the worst president we’ve ever had,” Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

Reid pointed to Bush’s failed plan to privatize the Social Security program and also said Bush “has done his very best to destroy Medicare” in order support his assessment of Bush’s presidency.

Asked by David Gregory if he had any regrets about his persistent criticism of Bush, Reid responded, “I am who I am.”

“I think you just have to call things the way you see them.”

No doubt bush is the worst president we could of had for the past 8 years and, I believe, will go down in history as one of the worst ever...for so many reasons. However, Reid is no shining star himself! We need decent people to want to be involved in government service before we can expect decent leaders.

SMS, you may have the most ludicrous post on here. 9/11 happened less than 8 months after Bush took office. The preparations by the terrorist scum who did this happened long before on Clinton's watch. Remember him? Remember the USS Cole, who was president then? Lied under oath, lied to the American people, impeached and should have been removed from office and jailed. His glad handing BS cost the US dearly but too many people (you're probably one of them) close their eyes and ears and pretend all the bad that he did never happened. Sure Bush is a boob and a terrible mistake but so was Clinton. I have no doubt that Billy Bob will get his one day but watch how much more harm he can do now that Bilary is going to be the next Secretary of State. I only pray that people like you one day wise up.

Harry, Look in the mirror, what do you see, the worst majority leader of the senate we have ever had. Harry, you are entitled to your opinion, I don't much like Bush either but Bill Clinton is right up there with the worst we have ever had.

Not to make fun of Harry Reid, but isn't that just stating the obvious?

And in other news... The earth is round, an orange is orange, and Dick Cheney is evil.

Please. Exactly how many terrorist attacks has he prevented in the last 7+ years? We'll never know. As far as "worst president" there can be no worse presidents than Clinton or FDR.

Funny when people bringup that congress has a lower approval than Bush--yet "forget" to mention that 49% of congress is GOP. They are the ones who make congress look bad by dragging things down and agreeing with Bush's veto pen.

Throw those GOP bums out and congress and Obama can get rolling!

Bush saved the country after 9-11 (Imagine what would have happened if Al "the inventor of global warming and the internet" Gore would have been president... very scary. I prospered until the democrats took over both houses of congress. The democrats led by Reid, Pelosi, Frank, Dodd and Schumer blocked any attempt to clean up the Freddie and Fannie mess over the past 7-8 years. This current financial mess is the direct result of Clinton and the democrat's FAILED Social experiment to give financing to people who could not afford it. REID is a joke and the worse Majority Leader in history.

Bush has been at the helm of this "Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld/Rove National/International" debacle for 8-years. And now you boldly state what many of us knew by the end of Bush's first term, and most of us knew for sure after Katrina that he was the worst. Now you boldly say what we already know. Not impressive Mr. Reid. I have seen bolder leadership in 3-month old kittens.

P.S. – – – I am also not happy about Blagojevich's political moxie, but for now allow Burris to take the Senate seat so it won't be another distraction along with the Bill Richardson nomination withdrawal. With all the disasters the "Obama-Biden-Clinton-Gates" will find in their inbox from Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld/Rove administration, the Burris thing is a non-starter.

Bush will be judged the same as Herbert Hoover. Sure, Herbert didn't put the country into a war it didn't want to be in, but they both presided over the biggest financial failures of our economy and both look inept at trying to repair it.

It really doesn't matter if bush was the worst, all that needs to be known is that he truly wasn't what this country needed the past 8 years.

Bush is the worst persident we have ever had, not just because of the actions he took (like getting rid of Habeas corpus, starting a false war, stealing an election, all that) but because of the things that he didn't do. For all of those people that say he stopped a second 911 from happening, where was he for the first? He got the brief title Terrorist To Attack Buildinds With PLANES!!!. What did he do? Nothing. As the bottom fell out of the housing market and deregulation caused the banking system to fail, where was he? What did he do? Nothing. He recieved several briefings on the state of the American economy, and still choose to ignore the facts and claim our ecomony was strong. When we look at the state of out country now and the events that lead up to it we have to ask our selves, where was our president? These things didn't just happen, they happened on his watch with him sitting on his hands doing nothing.

Bill Clinton lies to a grand jury about sex in the oval office and Bush is the worst President?? I feel history will have a much different view.

Harry Reid is a joke and along with Nancy Pelosi and Obama, they are going to make Gerorge Bush look like he's in the top ten.

Bush is certainly the worst president every. 9/11 occuring on his watch wasn't just bad luck... he had countless chances and direct warnings from intelligence sources to raise the warnings at the airports but he was too busy reallocating our resources to stop prostitution in New Orleans.

That said, Reid would be best to just keep his fool mouth shut and move on. 70% of Americans know Bush is the worst president ever while Obama is seeing record support. Now is not the time for leaders like Reid to create more division. Just look at the knee jerk reactions from all the Bush supporting morons (and you would have to be a complete moron to support Bush) because of Reid's attacks.

Obama is where he is at because he has some tact. We know how he feels about Bush but he is working to bring the country together.

No harm in telling the truth here. GWB is the worst American President in the history of our country. I only wish more people stepped up to readily point out Reagan's atrocities as well.

well, let me say this. I don't think President Bush is the worst president ever. Think about what he dealt with: 9-11, economic woes (twice)(2001-2002 and present day), Israel and Gaza, all of the natural disasters. I would venture to say he is not one of the best but he is not one of the worst. I understand your point of views but keep in mind the war in Iraq was not all of his fault. The congress voted on it and they kept pouring money into it.
I don't believe any of us have the right to criticize our Presidents because it is not our responsibility or right.

    To GOP no more....
To those of us that have mentally retarded children, your comments are tasteless, at least. You will not have the nerve to respond, I'm sure.

As a conservative, certainly Bush has been a dissappointment. But he would not be the worst president ever. His ideas on Social Security are great. But letting folks be responsible for their own decisions is unthinkable these days.
