Palin accuses media of 'personal, salacious' reporting

Palin lashed out at the media in a Friday statement.

Palin lashed out at the media in a Friday statement.

(CNN) - Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s office accused the media Friday of habitually taking her remarks out of context “to create adversarial situations,” and of pursuing “erroneous and often outrageous leads on a variety of non-issues.”

The statement also charged that some members of the media, including independent bloggers and the Atlantic, were continuing “to give credence to the sensational allegation that the governor’s child, Trig, is not hers.”

“As a public official, I expect criticism and I expect to be held accountable for how I govern,” Palin said in a statement released by her office Friday. “But the personal, salacious nature of recent reporting, and often the refusal of the media to correct obvious mistakes, unfortunately discredits too many in journalism today, making it difficult for many Americans to believe what they see in the media.”

The governor also said press coverage had distorted her recent remarks about aspiring New York senator Caroline Kennedy. “I was not commenting at all on Caroline Kennedy as a prospective U.S. senator, but rather on the seemingly arbitrary ways in which news organizations determine the level and kind of scrutiny given to those who aspire to public office,” she said. “In fact, I consider Ms. Kennedy qualified and experienced, and she could serve New York well.”

In portions of an interview with conservative John Ziegler released Thursday, Palin said it would be “interesting” to see how coverage of Kennedy’s candidacy compared to her own media experience. “It’s going to be interesting to see how that plays out and I think that as we watch that we will perhaps be able to prove that there is a class issue here also that was such a factor in the scrutiny of my candidacy versus, say, the scrutiny of what her candidacy may be.”

Her office took particular issue with a Politico story that said Palin had called coverage of Kennedy to date too soft.

Palin’s office also charged that reporters were unfairly scrutinizing the governor and her family. “Just this week, false stories in the media surfaced alleging improper influence by the Palin administration or the governor herself,” they said in the Friday statement, pointing to a report by an Alaska paper on union charges that her administration had delayed serving an arrest warrant on the mother of Levi Johnston, fiance of Bristol Palin. Union officials later changed the substance of those allegations considerably.

Another report — that Johnston lacked the proper educational requirements for the position he held — resulted in his resignation from the job.

Sarah Palin is most likely a decent, kind hearted person. I have never met her, of course, but her mannerisms are pleasant enough.

Yes, she has been shamlessly ostracized by the media. And that includes CNN !

If she didn't speak in run-on sentences constantly, they wouldn't have to take comments out of context.

If you had been honest to begin with Sarah and produced the birth certificate when Trig's parentage came into question, you wouldn't be in this position now.. Like everyone that runs for a public office, you open your personal life to public scrutiny.

How you gonna run in 2012 when you're nothing but a whining, childish sore loser? OMG the media scrutnized me and got some things wrong and mostly portrayed me as the know-nothing smarmy politician that I am. But, Rezko, Wright, spreading the wealth, socialism, clinging to guns and proud of my country were all fair game as long as it's my opponent. You're going to have to grow some thicker skin if you want to play in this game.

It hasn't taken very long for the Republican whine machine to get up and running. Palin really needs to get over it.

You know, if the media would stop printing everthing she says, she would be forced to just go away. The media created this monster and it keeps feeding it. Just stop. She should never have been picked by John McCain. There is no reason for her to still be anyone's center of attention. I thought during the campaign she was "convinced" by handlers to say the mean, hateful, divisive things she said. I know now it was all her. She is mean and nasty and needs to stay in Alaska.

    Boo Hoo, Boo Hoo.
Grow up, if you want to run for public office, then get used to questions and not the ones you want, but those who want to know what you know and if you do not have viable answers then do your home work or get out of the public.

The reason the media attacked you, Sarah, is because you had the potential to steal the election from their "chosen one". You created a stir, and that wasn't supposed to happen. The media has taken to making the news instead of reporting it. I wonder how much of this economic problem would actually have happened if they hadn't talked recession, recession, recession. Now that Obama is almost in office, all talk is of recovery. Strange, isn't it? In my opinion, the media is no better than the politicians – one step below used car dealers.

Will this woman ever just go away? Every politician is under the microscope why would she think she would be any different? She allowed herself and her family to be 'used' by the Mccain campaign out of her greed for power. I wonder if she would be complaining had they won the campaign.
Also, the story of Trig's birth is to biazzar not to question. What woman in her right mind, knowing she was having a high risk pregnancy, would put herself and the life of the child in danger the way she did? If she is so offended by the rumor that Trig is not her child, why won't she provide a birth certificate?
