Palin accuses media of 'personal, salacious' reporting

Palin lashed out at the media in a Friday statement.

Palin lashed out at the media in a Friday statement.

(CNN) - Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s office accused the media Friday of habitually taking her remarks out of context “to create adversarial situations,” and of pursuing “erroneous and often outrageous leads on a variety of non-issues.”

The statement also charged that some members of the media, including independent bloggers and the Atlantic, were continuing “to give credence to the sensational allegation that the governor’s child, Trig, is not hers.”

“As a public official, I expect criticism and I expect to be held accountable for how I govern,” Palin said in a statement released by her office Friday. “But the personal, salacious nature of recent reporting, and often the refusal of the media to correct obvious mistakes, unfortunately discredits too many in journalism today, making it difficult for many Americans to believe what they see in the media.”

The governor also said press coverage had distorted her recent remarks about aspiring New York senator Caroline Kennedy. “I was not commenting at all on Caroline Kennedy as a prospective U.S. senator, but rather on the seemingly arbitrary ways in which news organizations determine the level and kind of scrutiny given to those who aspire to public office,” she said. “In fact, I consider Ms. Kennedy qualified and experienced, and she could serve New York well.”

In portions of an interview with conservative John Ziegler released Thursday, Palin said it would be “interesting” to see how coverage of Kennedy’s candidacy compared to her own media experience. “It’s going to be interesting to see how that plays out and I think that as we watch that we will perhaps be able to prove that there is a class issue here also that was such a factor in the scrutiny of my candidacy versus, say, the scrutiny of what her candidacy may be.”

Her office took particular issue with a Politico story that said Palin had called coverage of Kennedy to date too soft.

Palin’s office also charged that reporters were unfairly scrutinizing the governor and her family. “Just this week, false stories in the media surfaced alleging improper influence by the Palin administration or the governor herself,” they said in the Friday statement, pointing to a report by an Alaska paper on union charges that her administration had delayed serving an arrest warrant on the mother of Levi Johnston, fiance of Bristol Palin. Union officials later changed the substance of those allegations considerably.

Another report — that Johnston lacked the proper educational requirements for the position he held — resulted in his resignation from the job.

HOPE commented that she thinks Caroline Kennedy is ready to be a senator because she wrote a book? All I have to say is that I'm glad I don't live in NY. Come on Hope, it can't have anything to do with her last name would it?

Palin has nothing to compare, Kennedy is a running for a Senate seat, Palin was the VP pick on McCain's ticket. She was not a "candidate", McCain was. She knew when she accepted the VP pick she was going to put her family thru intense media watching, and she did it anyway. I do not feel sorry for her, she is white trash, her kids are white trash. Can she shut her trap?? She really does talk too much.

It wouldn't be a good strory if she would just show us a picture of her pregnant or get any doctor to confirm she ever was pregnant with Trig or show us a picture of her daughter when she supposedly had mono and was taken out of school for six months (but was actually pregnant!)!!!!!!!!!

This such old news. But a fair question is indeed raised:
Is the media biased? What happened when Obama asked the media to leave his family alone?

Does Governor Palin really believe that she can enter the campaign, question all aspects of President-Elect Obama's life, forge a campaign of doubt about his background that causes hate, and then NOT expect her junk to be exposed? That just proves her stupidity. Stop speaking with the media. Take some time to rebuild your character and self-esteem, Governor. Your comments only make others remember the times that YOU faltered. Focus on your family and your job. END OF STORY!!!

Who's running Alaska while Sarah airs her grudges about the loss of the election?

Would someone please tell her her 15 minutes are up?

My liberal hatred is reserved for those incompetent Republican imbeciles who failed at the job of protecting the USA on 9/11, then lied us into foolish and unnecessary war, trampled our constitution, denied economic reality as we were sliding into the next great depression brought on by eight years of Republican borrowing and spending and deregulating, and for those who support such lies. You betcha!

Hey Palin – Bloggers are only filling in for the press.
Since the press won't do (or can't do) serious commentary and point out the shortcomings of so called political candidates it is left up to individuals to point out and mock the fools, hillbillies, hypocrites and delusional religious nut jobs that run for public office. They are defending deMOCracy one MOCK at a time.
By the way what would you do if Putin said something "not nice" about ya? Cry, whine and complain that he's not being fair? With your thin skin it's obvious your not prepared for major political office.
Welcome to the "bigs" baby. And by the way to quote Tom Hanks, "there's no crying in baseball"

Sarah Palin certainly did not care about setting the record straight when members of her party called Obama a Muslim, a terrorist, a socialist etc. As ye sow, shall ye reap.

Get used to it grandma grizzly; it will get far worse during the 2012 primary. If you think this is bad, wait until you see and hear what your Republican rivals say about you and your family.

Palin, you're the one who incited "kill Obama" at your rallies. You're the one who gave the stupid answers. You're the one who spent the RNC's $100k+ on your wardrobe. Stop blaming others. IT WAS YOU!!

Playing the role of poor victim seems to be the current Palin fall-back strategy- particularly if one has no credible response to legitimate media criticism. And speaking of the media- lashing out as Palin has done, only supports her thesis that the media is on the wrong side of the issue [that is, if you adhere to the science of Palintology] whenever there is disagreement with her ethical, political, social, or intellectual frailties. Reminds one of a certain American politician who once pronounced, he,"won't have the press to kick him around anymore"-and we all know what ultimately happened to him!

If she was to make a statement on the high number of unempolyed individuals in her state and how that will impact her ability to provide services to all the people residing in Alaska – then that would be considered news worthy but her whining reflects why she is not fit to be the VP of this country. CNN please stop printing anything that she whines about.

Excuse yourself, your ignorance is showing. Affirmitive action did not put Obama where he is today. Its called hard work and good education silly. Maybe if you had the same type of credentials you can possibly make something of yourself

I know it can't be a serious topid, but I can't believe it is even discussed that she may run for President. Is anyone that stupid? Democrats will be laughing all the way to the White House if the GOP ever tries that. But hey, it will be great every Saturday night at 11:30pm.

I'm sorry, but Sarah Palin was one of the biggest news stories of the year. For good or bad, she became a household name. Since she was campaigning to be second in command of the most powerful nation on earth, all of her imperfections became relevant, including her inept interviews. They in themselves became news, and they would have been news whichever of the candidates gave them.
