Palin accuses media of 'personal, salacious' reporting

Palin lashed out at the media in a Friday statement.

Palin lashed out at the media in a Friday statement.

(CNN) - Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s office accused the media Friday of habitually taking her remarks out of context “to create adversarial situations,” and of pursuing “erroneous and often outrageous leads on a variety of non-issues.”

The statement also charged that some members of the media, including independent bloggers and the Atlantic, were continuing “to give credence to the sensational allegation that the governor’s child, Trig, is not hers.”

“As a public official, I expect criticism and I expect to be held accountable for how I govern,” Palin said in a statement released by her office Friday. “But the personal, salacious nature of recent reporting, and often the refusal of the media to correct obvious mistakes, unfortunately discredits too many in journalism today, making it difficult for many Americans to believe what they see in the media.”

The governor also said press coverage had distorted her recent remarks about aspiring New York senator Caroline Kennedy. “I was not commenting at all on Caroline Kennedy as a prospective U.S. senator, but rather on the seemingly arbitrary ways in which news organizations determine the level and kind of scrutiny given to those who aspire to public office,” she said. “In fact, I consider Ms. Kennedy qualified and experienced, and she could serve New York well.”

In portions of an interview with conservative John Ziegler released Thursday, Palin said it would be “interesting” to see how coverage of Kennedy’s candidacy compared to her own media experience. “It’s going to be interesting to see how that plays out and I think that as we watch that we will perhaps be able to prove that there is a class issue here also that was such a factor in the scrutiny of my candidacy versus, say, the scrutiny of what her candidacy may be.”

Her office took particular issue with a Politico story that said Palin had called coverage of Kennedy to date too soft.

Palin’s office also charged that reporters were unfairly scrutinizing the governor and her family. “Just this week, false stories in the media surfaced alleging improper influence by the Palin administration or the governor herself,” they said in the Friday statement, pointing to a report by an Alaska paper on union charges that her administration had delayed serving an arrest warrant on the mother of Levi Johnston, fiance of Bristol Palin. Union officials later changed the substance of those allegations considerably.

Another report — that Johnston lacked the proper educational requirements for the position he held — resulted in his resignation from the job.

Good ol Sarah, always pointing fingers. The whole world is against her, and it's always someone else's fault. A true Republican.

Palin is a pathological liar, as categorically laid out on Kieth Olberman's show..

Palin blocked the arrest of Terry Johnston, Levi's mom, for drug dealing while campaigning with McCain.

Palin's campaign image was more important that stopping drugs being sold to kids. Palin is profoundly corrupt.

And yet... CNN continues to try to re-habilitate her by putting up these stories without covering Palin's obvious pathological personality.

Sarah, with all of the problems facing the country today, the last thing people are worrying about is how the media is mistreating you. If you want us to take you seriously, talk about America's problems. Even if the media IS treating you unfairly, the best way to deal with it is to MAKE news that the media will be forced to report. Make the discussion about IDEAS rather than about gossip. Otherwise, you look like a bitter and petty loser blaming everyone else for her failures. If you look out your window and you see a mushroom cloud in the distance, don't complain about the window.

How can anyone, liberal or conservative, condone the media running with the story that Trig was not Palin's child? THat is disgusting smut journalism that is way too prevelant in today's society.

ML...forgive the inaccuarate quote..I lost the post :)..you said somehting to the effrect that Palin shouldn't be preaching on the points of values since Bristol had a child out of wedlock. Unfortunately, you can only preach to your kids so much. Short of keeping them hog tied at home until they are of age or married just isn't feasible. It was Bristol who got pregnant out of wedlock, not Gov Palin herself. Even the most religious or strict households can have issues that go against what mainstream society considers proper. I understand Gov Palin's desire to knock the media and their often out of control or misguided facts. So here is the deal...media, leave Gov Palin alone and quit hounding her family and her life; Gov Palin, relax and ignore what the media is saying.

I will be strait forward and say I'm a supporter of Sara Palin, as a Gov. I agree that the media has gone beyond reporting on several occasions and their corrections go largly unnoticed because you nay-sayers refuse to keep an open mind.

She was not herself when running with McCain, and I agree with many that it was a slightly bigger bite than she realized. I even agree that she messed up a number of times. But when it comes down to it, the media has seamed to go out of their way on Palin.

"Another report — that Johnston lacked the proper educational requirements for the position he held — resulted in his resignation from the job."

I'd like to note that it was just released that the educational requirement was misstated, by an individual who in trying to hurt Palin hurt an 18 year old father. Way to go media, gunning for kids to hurt public figures.

“To create adversarial situations,” and of pursuing “erroneous and often outrageous leads on a variety of non-issues.”

As in "palling around with terrorists," Palin? You're a loon, a fraud and a menace to all good things about America.

Liberals...and your media...I agree with you and the fact that McCain/Palin lost. So, now that the election is over and most of us rational conservatives understand that, why don't you stop raping Palin? You want her to disappear, then quit bringing her up...posting news...making comments. She ran for an office and lost, now why don't YOU get over it. You better keep your focus on defending your Messiah. I have a very good feeling he's going to need it. By the way, what ever happened to Obama's spiritual leader (Wright)?

3rd try to get this comment on CNN!

Isn't it interesting that the liberal media and liberals in general can't take any criticism while they demand their right to criticize anyone and everyone about anything they want!! And it doesn't have to be true or of any relevance!

For all you anti Palin whinebags –

She probably should not run for reelection as governor as she's likely to lose, unless her undeserved celebrity overcomes her obvious personnel and professional shortcomings and deficiencies. She'd probably do well financially if she leaves office and joins the right wing media pundit ranks, write a book (with a ghost writer of course), and make paid appearances. There's still enough of a market for her rubbish to make money, though may be not enough to win in the political arena now.

John McCain has put the campaign behind him, forgotten all about it and simply moved on.

Sarah "Crybaby" Palin just doesn't have that capacity.

Surely, a presidential candidate needs to be made of much better stuff than whatever she's made of.

You are like Britney Spears a year or two ago... can't do anything without the media all over it. Stay off camera and keep to yourself, Palin! Thats how Spears took care of things.

Palin seemed to really enjoy herself on SNL, but now whines about it.

Hey Palin... Couric didn't sit at a table with her chronies and say.... "oooooh, lets get Palin on this question... "What kind of books/literature do you read?" BWAHAHAHA! that will trip her up and she will look like a hick, because shes from Alaska and they don't read anything up there.... BWAHAHAHA!"

Gimmee a break.... decent question.... people just want to know more about you.... Couric isn't "out to get you".

Salacious- of or appealing to one's sexual desires.

Umm... I know the media has a reputation for being sensational... but I don't think any of the recent reports about Palin have been particularly appealing to my sexual desires. Apparently collegiate vocabulary was never covered at any of her forty-three community colleges.

I DID NOT EVEN READ THIS – WHY DOES THE MEDIA CONTINUE TO COMMENT ON THIS WOMAN? ENOUGH ALREADY! I have heard more about Palin than McCain since the campaign ended. Is the media trying to keep this woman in the forefront for some reason?

ENOUGH! Move on to something else, she is a has been and should never be brought up again!

    Attention Palin defenders:
Because YOU are unwilling to acknowledge the immaturity and hypocrisy of this woman doesn't mean that none of us should. It's not only our right but our duty as members of a free democratic society to question the veracity of statements made by people so close to power and to point out when such statements conflict with reality.

Uh....Obama's colleague and neighbor....and friend was a part of the Weather Undergroud who was responsible for bombing the Pentagon and attacks on judicial figures. That would indeed make him a domestic terrorist. He is coming out with memoir and shows no remorse for his group's actions.
