Palin accuses media of 'personal, salacious' reporting

Palin lashed out at the media in a Friday statement.

Palin lashed out at the media in a Friday statement.

(CNN) - Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s office accused the media Friday of habitually taking her remarks out of context “to create adversarial situations,” and of pursuing “erroneous and often outrageous leads on a variety of non-issues.”

The statement also charged that some members of the media, including independent bloggers and the Atlantic, were continuing “to give credence to the sensational allegation that the governor’s child, Trig, is not hers.”

“As a public official, I expect criticism and I expect to be held accountable for how I govern,” Palin said in a statement released by her office Friday. “But the personal, salacious nature of recent reporting, and often the refusal of the media to correct obvious mistakes, unfortunately discredits too many in journalism today, making it difficult for many Americans to believe what they see in the media.”

The governor also said press coverage had distorted her recent remarks about aspiring New York senator Caroline Kennedy. “I was not commenting at all on Caroline Kennedy as a prospective U.S. senator, but rather on the seemingly arbitrary ways in which news organizations determine the level and kind of scrutiny given to those who aspire to public office,” she said. “In fact, I consider Ms. Kennedy qualified and experienced, and she could serve New York well.”

In portions of an interview with conservative John Ziegler released Thursday, Palin said it would be “interesting” to see how coverage of Kennedy’s candidacy compared to her own media experience. “It’s going to be interesting to see how that plays out and I think that as we watch that we will perhaps be able to prove that there is a class issue here also that was such a factor in the scrutiny of my candidacy versus, say, the scrutiny of what her candidacy may be.”

Her office took particular issue with a Politico story that said Palin had called coverage of Kennedy to date too soft.

Palin’s office also charged that reporters were unfairly scrutinizing the governor and her family. “Just this week, false stories in the media surfaced alleging improper influence by the Palin administration or the governor herself,” they said in the Friday statement, pointing to a report by an Alaska paper on union charges that her administration had delayed serving an arrest warrant on the mother of Levi Johnston, fiance of Bristol Palin. Union officials later changed the substance of those allegations considerably.

Another report — that Johnston lacked the proper educational requirements for the position he held — resulted in his resignation from the job.

"The media" only reports things that people will read and discuss. They are a business people! They don't exist to serve a bigger purpose! They report it because you will read it; if you don't, they wouldn't care to write it. Please save us all the media conspiracy talk. If people stop bashing Palin, AND stop complaining about all the Palin bashing (both sides), we all could go on our merry way. Therefore, I'm suggesting this be the VERY last post on this thread! GAME OVER!LOL!

Well she is pretty much destoying her credibility and any chance that she may hold public office other than that of Governer of Alaska (Siberia)

The secondary reason for this latest outburst by Sarah Palin, message that she is trying to send about the media, is mostly accurate. Having said that, however, how is she able to justify the reasoning behind her declaration that Barack Obama was a terrorist, that he wasn't an American, that he wanted to murder babies, etc. Sensationalism perhaps? – or a more despicable reason, like winning no matter the cost? She should probably shut up.

As far as Sarah Palin being 'news' at least two days in a row this week? There are no words.

So...Sarah Palin (Republican Pitbull) is accusing people of doing to her what Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly, and all of the other right-wing "media" do every day of the year to anyone they disagree with. Hmmm...kind of a double standard, don't you think?

The bottom line is that Sarah Palin is eager to blame anyone but herself for her failures. Take responsibility and I might actually find some respect for you.

This has been humorous reading the hate filled venomous rants from the looney liberals. I totally expected this response. There is a reason they hate Sarah Palin so viciously: Fear and jealousy. There is nothing else that makes someone turn so hateful. Sarah is 100% correct in her statements. She has done nothing wrong. The anointed one has a frightening background and I am afraid for our country. He will be the true "teflon" president because Hollywood made it "fashionable" to vote for him.

The same should be said to all the Palin bashers who keep posting here.

Despite being her own worst enemy, Palin continues to cry victim. "Nobody understands me. Boo hoo." Between her whining, pandering to the far right and demands for public attention, I can't imagine when this new mom/grandma has time to serve the people of Alaska.

    @ marc,

Actually Caroline Kennedy is qualified to be Senator because she is 30 years or older, has been living in the US at least 9 years and would be a New York resident at the time of the appointment. Those are the only qualifications for Senator according to the US Constitution.

  14. Bararck Obama, still just B.O.

After reading these posts it has become so painfully obvious that the dimocrats are stupid and gives me great cause for concern about the people they voted into office. After watching the congress for the last 2 years, Pelosi, Reid, etc. I find the concern is justified.

As out to lunch as ever. She acts like some kind of conspiracy or undue scrutiny lead to people's perception of her as a moron. Wake up governor, it was YOUR WORDS, your lack of knowledge, your negative campaigning and your obvious inability to make coherent sentences time after time after time that lead the majority of the public to have a bad opinion of you. Sheesh.

    Palin defenders:
You're not by chance trying to get those of us with unflattering comments about Palin to feel bad and to shut up while you freely say similarly unflattering things about Obama and democrats are you?
    Would that not constitute "hypocrisy?"
    You betcha!

I am reading the ongoing mean, very mean comments posted here regarding Gov. Palin. Are you all so perfect that you feel justified in making these horrid comments? The media was bias, mean, arrogant and horrible to Gov. Palin and her family and you people are just repeating what you heard from the liberal media. Obama did pal around with terrorists, hello Bill Ayers and the rest of the gang.

Marc.....tsk, tsk, tsk. That is what's wrong with you Conservatives, always calling Liberals or Democrats stupid beause our ideas and opinions differ from yours.

As for Palin, wether or not you agree or not, she was the final nail in McCain's coffin.

To you conservatives, the ONLY reason she was qualified to be VP, was that she is a card carrying member of the right wing of the GOP...it didn't matter that she wasn't qualified or ready for the job.

Isn't she the one who "didn't hesistate" when asked to join the ticket when she was completely unqualified to do so? Wasn't she the one that pulled her kids out of school to take them on the campaign trail with her? Wasn't it her decision to use them as props every chance she got? While families, for the most part, should be off limits when you thrust them into the public eye you have to expect them to garner attention. Stop blamming everyone else and take some responsbility. You lost, now go away.
