Palin accuses media of 'personal, salacious' reporting

Palin lashed out at the media in a Friday statement.

Palin lashed out at the media in a Friday statement.

(CNN) - Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s office accused the media Friday of habitually taking her remarks out of context “to create adversarial situations,” and of pursuing “erroneous and often outrageous leads on a variety of non-issues.”

The statement also charged that some members of the media, including independent bloggers and the Atlantic, were continuing “to give credence to the sensational allegation that the governor’s child, Trig, is not hers.”

“As a public official, I expect criticism and I expect to be held accountable for how I govern,” Palin said in a statement released by her office Friday. “But the personal, salacious nature of recent reporting, and often the refusal of the media to correct obvious mistakes, unfortunately discredits too many in journalism today, making it difficult for many Americans to believe what they see in the media.”

The governor also said press coverage had distorted her recent remarks about aspiring New York senator Caroline Kennedy. “I was not commenting at all on Caroline Kennedy as a prospective U.S. senator, but rather on the seemingly arbitrary ways in which news organizations determine the level and kind of scrutiny given to those who aspire to public office,” she said. “In fact, I consider Ms. Kennedy qualified and experienced, and she could serve New York well.”

In portions of an interview with conservative John Ziegler released Thursday, Palin said it would be “interesting” to see how coverage of Kennedy’s candidacy compared to her own media experience. “It’s going to be interesting to see how that plays out and I think that as we watch that we will perhaps be able to prove that there is a class issue here also that was such a factor in the scrutiny of my candidacy versus, say, the scrutiny of what her candidacy may be.”

Her office took particular issue with a Politico story that said Palin had called coverage of Kennedy to date too soft.

Palin’s office also charged that reporters were unfairly scrutinizing the governor and her family. “Just this week, false stories in the media surfaced alleging improper influence by the Palin administration or the governor herself,” they said in the Friday statement, pointing to a report by an Alaska paper on union charges that her administration had delayed serving an arrest warrant on the mother of Levi Johnston, fiance of Bristol Palin. Union officials later changed the substance of those allegations considerably.

Another report — that Johnston lacked the proper educational requirements for the position he held — resulted in his resignation from the job.

Is she kidding...? Who can honestly take this woman seriously..?! She went from playing along with the media (SNL, News etc.) like she could take a joke or admit a mistake to playing the victim... She makes women in her position of power (which I still have yet to figure out how she got this far) look so naïve…

I don’t think another woman will ever put herself up for a presidential (or VP) run ever again after this… 😐

Is it the media's fault that Sarah Palin isn't very bright (Africa is a country)? Is it the media's fault that she is a bufoon ("I am going to go to the places where the real Americans are")? Is it the media's fault that this ultra-conservative's family show un-conservative behavior (daughter is an un-wed mother, future mother-in-law is a drug dealer)? Is she so dumb that she doesn't think the media will notice?

I think Sarah is telling it like it really is. Who believes the newspapers anymore?

She has every right to criticize the media. They have been unfairly biased, and should find better things to write about. I don't believe anyone criticized the soon to be President about his kids, in fact I believe they are "off limits". Her allegations regarding the soon to be President are spot on. Many of you are just too young or too irresponsible to investigate who Pres. elect Obama has surrounded himself with over the years. May we pray that Sarah Palin continues to be the wonderful Governor. she is and that the media will stop hounding her family, and that the Pres. elect will run the country with all people in mind.

Thanks media. Sarah is great intertainment. There should be a movie about her. She is funny to watch. Gov. of Alaska sitting on porch, with six pack in hand, watching Russia for us. She never fails to intertain with her goofy and uneducated answers or remarks. Six years and five colleges to get a degree in journalism and can't handle the media. Jethro Bodine did better with a six grade education. She is certainly intertaining but maybe not the best person for a serious job to represent the people of this country. I would want someone better qualified than me or the joe six pack.

Why can't those silly conservatives admit this election was a rejection of their policies and not the media. If they're going to preach personal responsibility maybe it's time they showed some. If Palin had been the Democratic nominee for VP the Limbaughs, Hannitys, Becks, Coulters, etc. would have been far more vicious than some blogger.

She has a point here...interesting that a disproportional amount of voters had more knowledge of the so called "trooper gate" issues and details about Palin’s daughter, church and family then had knowledge of the issues about Ayers, Wright and mostly Rezco.

Kennedy is not getting 1/10 the scrutiny you know, for her you know, issues with communicating with the um… media you know, I think it is because you know, that she um….you know, is for you know is for gay rights and um…you know other stuff, um… um you know liberals like to hear? If you don’t get this it makes my point!

Actually, I am coming to welcome these little Sarah blurbs – given all the depressing news these days, a little comic relief comes in handy. But like all sitcoms, this one will also run it's course...

  14. Go Sarah

You people are the reason this country is going downhill. Leave the woman alone. She is not stupid. She got elected to be governor- have you? Then I guess you're not as good as Sarah at somethng.

I hope all you hate mongering men who are sexist and think women are stupid get dumped and beaten by the women in your life. You deserve no respect as you show no respect for people in authority.

The woman is a governor. Show some respect. Or does anonymous posting about a "stupid" woman make you feel like a bigger man?

You liberals on this board crack me up with your moronic opinions. The woman is in charge of a 12 billion dollar budget, and runs a state, and you're trying to say she's stupid? Obama hasn't run a lemonade stand and isn't qualified to do even that. He's already making mistakes. Open your eyes and look at facts silly fools.

Sarah Palin is not whining. She has a point which happens to be true.

I can imagine the outrage if Michelle Obama, who by far made more idiotic statements, had been treated the way that Sarah Palin was.

Why don't you like her..is is because she is pro life..is is because her daughter kept her baby...is it because she and her husband have never had affairs...

Tina Fey is a low-life scumbag who sold herself out to the highest bidder–her only claim to fame is her slight and homlier resemblance to the Alaska Gov. I hope she sleeps well at night.with her SNL cohorts. She is not qualified to tie Palin's shoelaces.

America is imploding. Gossip feeds small minds and the media makes tons of money from this fact. Until individuals chose to ignore irrelevent nonsense and insist on simple truths, Americans will continue to bicker with themselves rather than find solutions to its problems. Blaming others has replaced personal responsibility. Sarah Palin? Who Cares? She gossiped all campaign but feels hurt when she feels she's the victim. You reap what you sow Governor.

Palin is right. You would have thought with all the flack Couric had, she would have been more supportive of a woman in this position.
Couric is usless. I'm sure it will come back to Couric. Time will tell.

Amazing how many of you can have nothing but negative things to say. Most of you don't live in Alaska, most of you are clueless about Sarah Palin's life, yet you are quick to state your "opinion" as if it is fact. Leave the woman alone...
