Palin accuses media of 'personal, salacious' reporting

Palin lashed out at the media in a Friday statement.

Palin lashed out at the media in a Friday statement.

(CNN) - Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s office accused the media Friday of habitually taking her remarks out of context “to create adversarial situations,” and of pursuing “erroneous and often outrageous leads on a variety of non-issues.”

The statement also charged that some members of the media, including independent bloggers and the Atlantic, were continuing “to give credence to the sensational allegation that the governor’s child, Trig, is not hers.”

“As a public official, I expect criticism and I expect to be held accountable for how I govern,” Palin said in a statement released by her office Friday. “But the personal, salacious nature of recent reporting, and often the refusal of the media to correct obvious mistakes, unfortunately discredits too many in journalism today, making it difficult for many Americans to believe what they see in the media.”

The governor also said press coverage had distorted her recent remarks about aspiring New York senator Caroline Kennedy. “I was not commenting at all on Caroline Kennedy as a prospective U.S. senator, but rather on the seemingly arbitrary ways in which news organizations determine the level and kind of scrutiny given to those who aspire to public office,” she said. “In fact, I consider Ms. Kennedy qualified and experienced, and she could serve New York well.”

In portions of an interview with conservative John Ziegler released Thursday, Palin said it would be “interesting” to see how coverage of Kennedy’s candidacy compared to her own media experience. “It’s going to be interesting to see how that plays out and I think that as we watch that we will perhaps be able to prove that there is a class issue here also that was such a factor in the scrutiny of my candidacy versus, say, the scrutiny of what her candidacy may be.”

Her office took particular issue with a Politico story that said Palin had called coverage of Kennedy to date too soft.

Palin’s office also charged that reporters were unfairly scrutinizing the governor and her family. “Just this week, false stories in the media surfaced alleging improper influence by the Palin administration or the governor herself,” they said in the Friday statement, pointing to a report by an Alaska paper on union charges that her administration had delayed serving an arrest warrant on the mother of Levi Johnston, fiance of Bristol Palin. Union officials later changed the substance of those allegations considerably.

Another report — that Johnston lacked the proper educational requirements for the position he held — resulted in his resignation from the job.

She made mistakes, but the press did hammer her while insulating President Elect Obama. I feel this way since neither Joe Biden or John McCain got much press. It became an Obama vs. Palin ticket. No matter what people say about her, the path she took with the life she was given is nothing short of amazing.

The media has not discredited Sarah Palin. She has done that herself. She knew exactly what she was getting into, without regard for the effect it could have on her family or the Johnston family. For her to even "wonder" about the scrutiny that Caroline Kennedy would receive is absolutely and utterly stupid. Clearly Sarah has not read newspapers or she would realize just how much mud and mire the Kennedy family has been pulled through by the media over the years. Granted, the actions of members of the Kennedy family (just like the actions of members of the Palin and Johnston families) focused the attention on themselves. All of this is just another example of how out of touch and completely unqualified Sarah Palin is. And to think...she was a journalism major???? Scary!!

Beyond belief. The woman who went around talking about how Obama "pals around with terrorists" thinks she was taken out of context. Katie Couric was mean for asking her about the bailout, the number one story of the week. The mind reels.

The more Sarah goes into blame game, the worse it gets. Forget it, move on, you lost. Quit blaming others, just do your job, and let the rest take care of itself. If you need to make a denial, just make the denail in a dignified and intelligent fashion with humility and dignity, if that is possible.

Really???? Is she actually whining because the press isn't playing nice with her? She sounds like a beauty queen contestant who lost a pageant. Not only is she not smart enough for the job, she's not strong enough. Yes, the press can be brutal. First test: Can you handle it? Sorry, Sarah, you don't go on to test #2.

I'm soooo glad this lady did NOT get the opportunity to be a "heart beat" away from the Presidency! Get over it Sarah....it's over!

Oh come on!!! She's placing the blame on other people for her own actions and behaviors and words! She said what she said from straightfoward, valid questions from Couric and Gibson. Every interview is edited to fit the time-slot, but to continue to paint the media as being out to get her, when Fox News and Rush Limbaugh are filled with glee when lambasting the Democrats is hypocritical at best. She's proven once more what a moron she is.

Palin was treated much differently by the media then she would have had if there was a (D) behind her name. Every little gaffe or mistake was endlessly played over and over. On the other hand Biden's neverending stream of gaffes was largely ignored and Obama's were entirely ignored.
Such is life for Republicans. The MSM still talks about Dan Quayle and his potato spelling yet never mentioned Obama's plan to take Russia's invasion of Georgia to the UN Security Council. Obama's "57 States" comment is also only found on YouTube. Then there was his 1000% overstatement of the tornado deaths during the election and how it is all caused by Global Warming.
Palin blew 2 or 3 questions out of hours of inteviews with Gibson and Couric yet this is what was played over and over.
Palin is correct. There is a media bias but if she's going to play the game she will have to be like the rest of the Republicans and get used to it.

  11. The Real Issue

The Real Issue is Governor Palin doesn't get it. She and Senator McCain lost. Sure there were aspects of the media scrutinizing her every move. President-elect Obama had the same problem.

Palin needs to govern her state because if she does not do the job, she will not be governing. The election is over and that's the Real Issue!!!

After Sarah " tells it like it really is",the media and Democrats,at least the ones here,GO INTO YOUR TYPICAL TOTAL DENIAL-don't you have any ability of understanding how reality works??Are you only capable of repeating what you've been TOLD to believe and say???

Somebody here TRY and do an intelligent post, and explain why it's OK for the media to lie and when they called on there lie,and proven wrong, not retract it.This should be interesting. Thanks in advance.

I don't know if this would be considered bribing a public official, but I will personally give this woman $20 if she will just shut up and go away.

Earth to Sarah: You lost! No one cares about you anymore!

Wah wah I'm Sarah Palin, I can say many untruths and half truths but don't attack me..leave me alone, I am the future of the complete destruction of the Republican Party. The more I see the more I realize her moment in the sun really showed the world that this woman should not even be allowed to run the government in Alaska. Yikes!!!

Poor poor Sarah so confused and so misunderstood. Don’cha know there are wars going on? Don’cha know about the recession? Don’cha know that while you are shilling for the aristocracy the court jesters are supposed to keep us occupied? Do you really think anyone cares about your daughter, your bra size, whether you breast feed or not? Do you really think folks care about your meth crazed town? Did you really sell baby pics to a corporate media giant? Why didn’t you set up a foundation to help educate unwed mothers? Why aren’t you helping out the dropouts in your state? Instead you are out talking about Tina Fey and Katie Curic?!?!? You came out of nowhere, put on your fancy clothes and gave us that parade wave and cover girl smile and thought this was all going to be pretty easy. Why don’cha jus roll up dem der sleeves you got and really start doing something Grizzly Momma.

Can you truly picture Sarah Palin as President of the United States?

I can't. No matter how hard I try, I really can't. She just doesn't have that quality. Too whiny and uninformed. In politics, first impressions are everything. Her persona is set in stone now. She will never be able to shake it.

There will still be those that will vote for her, but my instinct is that Sarah will not get the Republican nod in 2012, but if she somehow did, Obama would win in a walk.

You know, I certainly woudn't vote for this woman but I agree with what she is saying. It is all very much valid. Mainstream journalism has become more and more tabloid-like with time. It seems it started with the salicious reporting on the Clintons and has now become standard in the media.
I do think she owes Hillary Clinton an apology, however, for criticizing her last year now that she knows from her own ex[erience what this is like.

  25. It's all about her

My goodness this woman is not only lacking intelligence..she is without a doubt the most self serving individual out there! Thank the good Lord she isn't going to the White House.. her big complaint during the campaign was "Obama is pointing fingers at us and there are three fingers pointing back at him" Well she is pointing and whining and trying to save face and guess what Sarah.. you are an idiot, a liar and useless at the political game.. Good night and good bye! Please GOD!!!
