Palin accuses media of 'personal, salacious' reporting

Palin lashed out at the media in a Friday statement.

Palin lashed out at the media in a Friday statement.

(CNN) - Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s office accused the media Friday of habitually taking her remarks out of context “to create adversarial situations,” and of pursuing “erroneous and often outrageous leads on a variety of non-issues.”

The statement also charged that some members of the media, including independent bloggers and the Atlantic, were continuing “to give credence to the sensational allegation that the governor’s child, Trig, is not hers.”

“As a public official, I expect criticism and I expect to be held accountable for how I govern,” Palin said in a statement released by her office Friday. “But the personal, salacious nature of recent reporting, and often the refusal of the media to correct obvious mistakes, unfortunately discredits too many in journalism today, making it difficult for many Americans to believe what they see in the media.”

The governor also said press coverage had distorted her recent remarks about aspiring New York senator Caroline Kennedy. “I was not commenting at all on Caroline Kennedy as a prospective U.S. senator, but rather on the seemingly arbitrary ways in which news organizations determine the level and kind of scrutiny given to those who aspire to public office,” she said. “In fact, I consider Ms. Kennedy qualified and experienced, and she could serve New York well.”

In portions of an interview with conservative John Ziegler released Thursday, Palin said it would be “interesting” to see how coverage of Kennedy’s candidacy compared to her own media experience. “It’s going to be interesting to see how that plays out and I think that as we watch that we will perhaps be able to prove that there is a class issue here also that was such a factor in the scrutiny of my candidacy versus, say, the scrutiny of what her candidacy may be.”

Her office took particular issue with a Politico story that said Palin had called coverage of Kennedy to date too soft.

Palin’s office also charged that reporters were unfairly scrutinizing the governor and her family. “Just this week, false stories in the media surfaced alleging improper influence by the Palin administration or the governor herself,” they said in the Friday statement, pointing to a report by an Alaska paper on union charges that her administration had delayed serving an arrest warrant on the mother of Levi Johnston, fiance of Bristol Palin. Union officials later changed the substance of those allegations considerably.

Another report — that Johnston lacked the proper educational requirements for the position he held — resulted in his resignation from the job.

"making it difficult for many Americans to believe what they see in the media"....

People should not believe everything they see/hear in the media anyway. Flip around the channels, and if possible, flip around the globe. There are many levels to a story depending on where it is broadcast from.

Sorry Sarah, people aren't that stupid. It's not the media causing your reputation to slide, it's your inability to think on your feet when challenged. You are obviously not qualified to lead the country and that is painfully evident when your intellect is challenged.

It's ok though, Joe Six-pack says he wants to go for a beer with you.

If she, for once, had something positive to say in interviews, instead of the whiny, poor mistreated me clap trap, she might get more positive coverage. Also, she has put her family out there with her own explanations of who they are, hoping it will get some press coverage. The press did not bring up Levi's dropping out of school to take a job – she did. She does not even understand that people would not look upon her favorably for encouraging a young person to drop out of school for any reason. I wish she would just shut up and stay out of the news. Yuck!

I have to agree with Sarah (oh my gosh...) leave her kids out of it. Tear her apart if you want but the kids are off limits. Other than that I do not like Sarah and SHE is fair game for the media.

This whole thing continues to play out like a redneck version of "Northern Exposure" -- but the characters are not nearly as likeable as those in the TV show.

Maybe the media will stop bothering her after she stops her campaign for president in 2012. So favorable media reports are perfectly fine, but when they get unfavourable, it's "personal, salacious reporting"?

All your kids were paraded around in front of this country. They are "fair game". Keep them at home where they should be. These Palins are trash and have not the slightest idea how to behave in private or in the public eye!

I wonder why liberals always get so worked up over conservatives such as Palin? Could it be that conservatives maintain moral convictions and actually stand for something? I think it makes whishy-whashy liberals very uncomfortable with themselves because it makes them not want to look at their lack of values and face the they reality that they have no moral convictions. Go ahead liberals – cuss, swear, call people names but afterwards take a good look at yourself.

Sarah is a sore loser. She is the one who keeps bringing her children into the spotlight by doing interviews and posting news releases on her website.

Levi Johnston was not qualified for the job because he doesn't have a high school diploma which is a requirement. Plain and simple!

As far as Trig is concerned, produce a birth certificate, release your medical records. You sure didn't look pregnant and why on earth would you put his life in jeopardy by taking that long flight to Alaska after your labor already started?

Either answer the questions to prove everyone wrong (if that is possible) or GO AWAY!!!!!

No, I think Fox news took care of this years ago.

This woman is convinced that Americans are a bunch of diluted idiots who float in whatever direction the great lunar media machine pulls them. I did not despise you, Palin, becuase of Katie Couric's 100% legitimate questions...I despise you because of your 100% idiotic responses, your annoying personality, your negative, confined vision of the world, and your evident blindness to the character of Americans who liife outside of your small Alaskan box.

How dare the media ask pertinent questions of a person running for the 2nd highest office in the U.S.!!!!

It is unfathomable that she actually believes the nonsense she has been spouting since the summer.

To paraphrase the old saying, "If the shoes fit...(along with all the rest of the several hundred thousand dollars of clothes)..."

I agree that CNN and MSNBC has attacked Palin maliciously. I never heard them attacking Hillary for what she wears and how much it costs. I hope Obama works out, but i am sure the media is ready for the propoganda machine to run again.

She just does not understand how petty that she is becoming. The public does not hear her anymore than they do Bush. They are both history.
