Palin accuses media of 'personal, salacious' reporting

Palin lashed out at the media in a Friday statement.

Palin lashed out at the media in a Friday statement.

(CNN) - Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s office accused the media Friday of habitually taking her remarks out of context “to create adversarial situations,” and of pursuing “erroneous and often outrageous leads on a variety of non-issues.”

The statement also charged that some members of the media, including independent bloggers and the Atlantic, were continuing “to give credence to the sensational allegation that the governor’s child, Trig, is not hers.”

“As a public official, I expect criticism and I expect to be held accountable for how I govern,” Palin said in a statement released by her office Friday. “But the personal, salacious nature of recent reporting, and often the refusal of the media to correct obvious mistakes, unfortunately discredits too many in journalism today, making it difficult for many Americans to believe what they see in the media.”

The governor also said press coverage had distorted her recent remarks about aspiring New York senator Caroline Kennedy. “I was not commenting at all on Caroline Kennedy as a prospective U.S. senator, but rather on the seemingly arbitrary ways in which news organizations determine the level and kind of scrutiny given to those who aspire to public office,” she said. “In fact, I consider Ms. Kennedy qualified and experienced, and she could serve New York well.”

In portions of an interview with conservative John Ziegler released Thursday, Palin said it would be “interesting” to see how coverage of Kennedy’s candidacy compared to her own media experience. “It’s going to be interesting to see how that plays out and I think that as we watch that we will perhaps be able to prove that there is a class issue here also that was such a factor in the scrutiny of my candidacy versus, say, the scrutiny of what her candidacy may be.”

Her office took particular issue with a Politico story that said Palin had called coverage of Kennedy to date too soft.

Palin’s office also charged that reporters were unfairly scrutinizing the governor and her family. “Just this week, false stories in the media surfaced alleging improper influence by the Palin administration or the governor herself,” they said in the Friday statement, pointing to a report by an Alaska paper on union charges that her administration had delayed serving an arrest warrant on the mother of Levi Johnston, fiance of Bristol Palin. Union officials later changed the substance of those allegations considerably.

Another report — that Johnston lacked the proper educational requirements for the position he held — resulted in his resignation from the job.

Wasn't it Palin who started off jumping on the rumor mill once she became McCains running mate??? They figured no one would touch her because she could pull the Sexism Card despite their sexist displays at their convention? She is lucky I wasn't with SNL. I would have done a skit on how long I'm sure it takes to pile on that make up. lol

She is obviously looking for a diversion from her daughter giving birth. What she really needs to ask herself is why wasn't she smart enough to realize she was in way over her head. I suggest she take a back seat otherwise 2008 memories will stick with us until her next stunt. lol

Why does Gov. Palin keep talking about, bringing up, commenting on topics that most people have either forgotten about, didn't know about in the first place, or could care less about? If you want something to stop, you don't keep bringing it up, do you? She's the one who keeps her children in the news. She's the one who keeps advertising how little she knows about the world. She's the one who draws such negative attention to herself. She's the one who's whining.

Maybe she could take a sabbatical, go away, keep quiet - and LEARN something. Then she could discuss actual issues that people care about, instead of recycling her own tired issues!

What little airtime I've seen of Kennedy on national news wasn't terribly impressive, but New York can choose whomever they want to be the Senator from New York. The local news media of NY should be asking the pertinent questions, and National news would do good to let us know the progress and outcomes, but ultimately it is nobody's business but the citizens of New York. Vice President however, is all of our business. I expect national news journalists to be much more visible, and also a national election should receive a proportionate amount more scrutiny. Keep in mind also, this is not an election, it's an appointment. I'm not sure Ms. Palin can keep two things in mind at once.

The only reason there is another Palin story published is because the media knows the same idiots who are complaining about it will read it.

Blaming the press is a standard GOP tactic. It removes a candidate from having to take any responsibility for anything they did. Kind of like when your kid always has a lame excuse for something he or she did wrong.

Those poor republicans. I feel so sorry for them. They are eternal victims. NOT. In reality, they have ideas that don't resonate with a majority of Americans and some of them look and sound really dumb (present subject) when expressing them. The American people wisely put the adults back in charge.

Sarah Palin's comments mixes apples and oranges! Caroline Kennedy isn't running for Vice President, who would be just a heart beat away from being President of the United States. Sarah Palin is just trying to get people to feal sorry for her and to keep her name in the news for the next 3-4 years.

I get so tired of the right wingers ALWAYS complaining about 'the media".. When will they ever realize that if it wasn't for "the media", nobody would know the first thing about them, nor care what they had to say !! When Rush and Hannity, Sarah and Ann Coulter complain about how their issues are treated in what they call "main Stream Media", it is merely a smoke screen for having nothing positive to say about their own right wing agenda !! Let's face it, the past 8 years of the GOP have been a disaster, which is why their butts were voted out!! PLEASE let Sarah go back to her life in obsecurity !!

It's true that the media was extremely irresponsible in reporting stories about Palin's family – the one about Trig not being hers was downright mean-spirited and cruel.

The media is pretty bad these days, I think most people would agree with that. It just doesn't seem that way, because the folks who hate Palin love a chance to vent on her. And the sad fact is, most of them are probably more like her than they realize other than the abortion issue and the gay marriage issue.

  18. Lets move on

Oh yes, there is only one side to this and she is a complete victim. Dear God, does she take personal responsiblity for anything. I didn't hear any of the media accuse her of not being her sons mother, there were rumors rampant in the blogs, but the blogs aren't the news media.

Of course we did see weeks of Obamas wife in the media for her comment, and bing taken out of context no less.

She was a bad choice, period. The Republican party has set the bar low where mediocrity is aspired to, where religous ideology and symbolism has replaced the true conservative principals of small government and prudent spending.

The party has let itself be taken over and destroyed by the extreme right and look where it has gotten us/them.

Time to grow up, revitalize the true conservative ideals without the religous, radical and devisive crowd otherwise the party will continue to crumble.

This woman can not properly compose a complete sentence.

If she had issue with SNL and Tina Fey, why did she appear on the show? Had her ticket won the election, she would not be making these ridiculous comments about the media coverage.

She's right! The media crucified her because the liberal left didn't agree with her conservative values. The media made up its mind and then told the American people to whom they should vote. So many of the problems with Obama's past were simply overlooked or given little acknowledgement but if it had been a Republican with a shady past of consorting with terrorists or anti-american churches then it would have been on the news for weeks, not a five minute spot.

And, now that she's no longer a candidate, the media is still making her life miserable. And they call it news when she gets angry about them targeting her children.

I am appalled at all of you who actually believe that Trig is not her child. What an asinine thing to suggest. Anyway, what would she gain by covering up the birth of that child? Did any of you actually look at that sweet baby? DId you actually think about what it is like to have a child with special needs? You guys are sickening.
