Palin accuses media of 'personal, salacious' reporting

Palin lashed out at the media in a Friday statement.

Palin lashed out at the media in a Friday statement.

(CNN) - Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s office accused the media Friday of habitually taking her remarks out of context “to create adversarial situations,” and of pursuing “erroneous and often outrageous leads on a variety of non-issues.”

The statement also charged that some members of the media, including independent bloggers and the Atlantic, were continuing “to give credence to the sensational allegation that the governor’s child, Trig, is not hers.”

“As a public official, I expect criticism and I expect to be held accountable for how I govern,” Palin said in a statement released by her office Friday. “But the personal, salacious nature of recent reporting, and often the refusal of the media to correct obvious mistakes, unfortunately discredits too many in journalism today, making it difficult for many Americans to believe what they see in the media.”

The governor also said press coverage had distorted her recent remarks about aspiring New York senator Caroline Kennedy. “I was not commenting at all on Caroline Kennedy as a prospective U.S. senator, but rather on the seemingly arbitrary ways in which news organizations determine the level and kind of scrutiny given to those who aspire to public office,” she said. “In fact, I consider Ms. Kennedy qualified and experienced, and she could serve New York well.”

In portions of an interview with conservative John Ziegler released Thursday, Palin said it would be “interesting” to see how coverage of Kennedy’s candidacy compared to her own media experience. “It’s going to be interesting to see how that plays out and I think that as we watch that we will perhaps be able to prove that there is a class issue here also that was such a factor in the scrutiny of my candidacy versus, say, the scrutiny of what her candidacy may be.”

Her office took particular issue with a Politico story that said Palin had called coverage of Kennedy to date too soft.

Palin’s office also charged that reporters were unfairly scrutinizing the governor and her family. “Just this week, false stories in the media surfaced alleging improper influence by the Palin administration or the governor herself,” they said in the Friday statement, pointing to a report by an Alaska paper on union charges that her administration had delayed serving an arrest warrant on the mother of Levi Johnston, fiance of Bristol Palin. Union officials later changed the substance of those allegations considerably.

Another report — that Johnston lacked the proper educational requirements for the position he held — resulted in his resignation from the job.

If she wants to put the Trig rumors to rest, she only needs to release her medical history which was properly requested prior to the campaign and which the other candidates released. The narrative of events involving her labor and delivery Trig, if reported correctly on the internet, indicate to any literate reader either extreme risk-taking with an unborn's safety or, at worst, a deception as to maternity.

Sarah loves to blame everybody for everything.

She has no spine, takes no responsibility, and believes only in her own infallibility.

And every time she opens her mouth she seems even dumber.

We need to stop blaming sarah and take our fustration to the person who went all the way to Alaska to bring her to our view, and also the Media that are filming her face to expose to our view. McCain should be arrested and jailed for this calamity he has put us under. So leave Sarah alone, leave her be. Just don't read any article or view any interview she is giving. As simple as that. She has the right to speak and you have the right to not listen. Remember, she always knew that Alaska was the whole world, but she now discovers that the world extends beyond Alaska, let she knock herself out of excitement.

As much as I hate her, I hate McCain even more. Everything she did she was instructed to do from him and his low-life advisors. While she is (supposed) to be an adult and did chose this route to the WH, I hold him more accountable. He's a coward that hid behind some boobs. Both their chickens are coming home to roost....

Palin, you have to understand that when you're a Vice Presidential candidate, you will be scrutined by the media. The Couric interviews were very generous, fair and balanced. Those interviews exposed Palin's complete lack of intellectual depth and curiousity. That has to be irritating for Palin, but very valuable for those considering her as a candidate.

Independent bloggers are not journalists, can't anyone differentiate? The main stream media did not repeat as truth these rumors, they never validated these rumors. The media did not treat her better or worse than any other candidate–all she is doing is trying to keep the mantra going about the "liberal" media to deflect the attention from her own inadequacies, a tatic begun by republican candidatesin the 70s and pretty much discredited. She was not ready for the national stage - neither the questions nor the issues (she apparently had never thought about many of the issues facing this country). Just like the Enron boys, the Congress, Bush its always someone else's fault.

This woman will do anything to keep the media attention she criticizes so much. Why cant she just go away already? She and McCain lost, its over, deal with it!
I have to wonder if this is all a PR tactic to keep her name out there.

Kevin in Ohio says, "the media bias and left wing hatred and vitriol is obvious to anyone with half a brain." Yeah, but what about those of us with *entire* brains? Oh, that's right, we rejected the Republican party for its nearly decade-long war on reason, compentency, and progress. Sarah Palin's very own vitriolic comments on Obama were entirely uncalled for. Palls around with terrorists? Quick, someone call the feds!

I agree, although it doesn't change my vote in the election. People I voted for said stupid things and the press overlooked it! All because the press was rooting for the same person I voted for – but that doesn't excuse the press – be impartial!!
