Palin accuses media of 'personal, salacious' reporting

Palin lashed out at the media in a Friday statement.

Palin lashed out at the media in a Friday statement.

(CNN) - Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s office accused the media Friday of habitually taking her remarks out of context “to create adversarial situations,” and of pursuing “erroneous and often outrageous leads on a variety of non-issues.”

The statement also charged that some members of the media, including independent bloggers and the Atlantic, were continuing “to give credence to the sensational allegation that the governor’s child, Trig, is not hers.”

“As a public official, I expect criticism and I expect to be held accountable for how I govern,” Palin said in a statement released by her office Friday. “But the personal, salacious nature of recent reporting, and often the refusal of the media to correct obvious mistakes, unfortunately discredits too many in journalism today, making it difficult for many Americans to believe what they see in the media.”

The governor also said press coverage had distorted her recent remarks about aspiring New York senator Caroline Kennedy. “I was not commenting at all on Caroline Kennedy as a prospective U.S. senator, but rather on the seemingly arbitrary ways in which news organizations determine the level and kind of scrutiny given to those who aspire to public office,” she said. “In fact, I consider Ms. Kennedy qualified and experienced, and she could serve New York well.”

In portions of an interview with conservative John Ziegler released Thursday, Palin said it would be “interesting” to see how coverage of Kennedy’s candidacy compared to her own media experience. “It’s going to be interesting to see how that plays out and I think that as we watch that we will perhaps be able to prove that there is a class issue here also that was such a factor in the scrutiny of my candidacy versus, say, the scrutiny of what her candidacy may be.”

Her office took particular issue with a Politico story that said Palin had called coverage of Kennedy to date too soft.

Palin’s office also charged that reporters were unfairly scrutinizing the governor and her family. “Just this week, false stories in the media surfaced alleging improper influence by the Palin administration or the governor herself,” they said in the Friday statement, pointing to a report by an Alaska paper on union charges that her administration had delayed serving an arrest warrant on the mother of Levi Johnston, fiance of Bristol Palin. Union officials later changed the substance of those allegations considerably.

Another report — that Johnston lacked the proper educational requirements for the position he held — resulted in his resignation from the job.

  3. Is it Jan 20th yet?

She accuses the media of trying “to create adversarial situations,” and of pursuing “erroneous and often outrageous leads on a variety of non-issues.”.....This is from the lady that accused our President Elect of "palling around with terrorists" and being a "socialist". Sounds like she doesn't mind throwing punches, but doesn't know how to take one....

Sarah, I hear correspondent Joe (I'm not a) plumber needs help in the Gaza Strip reporting on the violence over there.

I just worry that you won't be able to find Israel on the map.

The campaign is over and it's time for her to move on. She is the one who took what bloggers said and repeated those statements on the campaign trail...so she has no one to blame but herself for those issues.

As far as her family goes, I agree they should not be targeted, but again she is the one who paraded them out there for all to see....it's a little late to complain now!!

    But again... move on girl!!!

Kennedy isn't running for the VP of the largest non-economy (bankrupted) in the world. She is running for senator so she can get some experience, unlike Palin who thinks she is qualified to be VP of America. Also, Kennedy has also been villified in the press for her flubs as well. Has Palin forgotten that she took home 150,000.00 worth of clothes she said she gave back? She lied and no one is going to forget that.

Palin continues to exploit her family.
And the media continues to foster this garbage.
And I accept my own role in that I am reading it and responding.

Let's all just leave it alone and let it go away....

You were not qualified to be VP, you still have a long way to go, Carroline Kennedy is very qualified to be a Senator, she is a graduate from an Ivy League College, she has written books...etc, you do not even deserve to be governor of the great state Alaska, I hope they will see the light next time.

And people wanted this woman as their VP? She does nothing but complain and whine. Yeah, I really want a crybaby to represent MY country to the rest of the world. Get over it, your daughter is a drunk (underage drinking, with pictures to prove it) who got pregnant, it is a shotgun wedding (if it ever gets that far), both are high school dropouts, someone lied to get Levi his job (undue influence, Governor?), she had to go to 4-5 colleges to get 1 degree, and foreign relations experience based on seeing a coastline of Russia...wow....

I went to 1 college to get my Bachelors, going to 1 college now to get my Masters, been around the world twice in the Navy so I have actually been to these countries, had my first kid when I was 28, and had to go through a govt. background check to get my current job....Dang, I guess i am qualified to be the ruler of the world by her standards.

  13. Give me a break!

There she goes again, you betcha! Hey, Sarah – if you would release ALL of your medical records, then we'd all know for sure whether or not Trigger is yours. If you have nothing to hide, then why didn't you share? You only allowed info regarding your latest physical to be made public...

    Now, STFU, and go away.

I am a proud Democrat who was relieved Obama won. However, I am disgusted with the way the media has treated Palin. Trust me, I am not a fan. But when you start with rumors, not facts, about her children, that hits below the belt. Leave them alone. Including Bristol. This is a typical Rebublican tactic. Attack, attack, attack. And with ignorance. Democrats are much better than that.

Sarah still does not get it, that for all her complaints now about Tina Fey and Katie Couric...nothing they did was made up, they portrayed her in the skit and the interview exactly how she really is.
So don't complain about them now, Sarah was just being Sarah and if she came across as dumb that is reality and how she was.
I think our Sarah is still suffering from sour grapes over their huge loss in the election.

Sarah Palin is right on .... The few comments already posted depict exactly what she is trying to say about the media. The media is liberal oriented and you know exactly what you will get from them. She is NOT stupid as most Democrats think. She may not have been the most qualified person but that is no reason to throw around the sarcastic comments. John McCain picked her. Why should she have turned down the opportunity ?

If you have something to say, say it intelligently ......

Proud American – she doesn't read the papers, so that can't be it!

If the Republicans really, truly want her to run in 2012 (please! there's not enough humor in the world!) they will shut her up and spend the next couple of years grooming her. Whichever college she was finally granted a communication/journalism degree from may want to take a look @ the effectiveness of that particular program, as it seems to have failed tremendously in this case.

As Palin lives out nowhere and busy in watching Russia, she's paranoid about nobody remembering her.

So, she keeps performing the publicity stunt that would tell us about her idiocy again like her McRage.
