Palin accuses media of 'personal, salacious' reporting

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/01/09/art.palin1.gi.jpg caption=" Palin lashed out at the media in a Friday statement."](CNN) - Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s office accused the media Friday of habitually taking her remarks out of context “to create adversarial situations,” and of pursuing “erroneous and often outrageous leads on a variety of non-issues.”

The statement also charged that some members of the media, including independent bloggers and the Atlantic, were continuing “to give credence to the sensational allegation that the governor’s child, Trig, is not hers.”

“As a public official, I expect criticism and I expect to be held accountable for how I govern,” Palin said in a statement released by her office Friday. “But the personal, salacious nature of recent reporting, and often the refusal of the media to correct obvious mistakes, unfortunately discredits too many in journalism today, making it difficult for many Americans to believe what they see in the media.”

The governor also said press coverage had distorted her recent remarks about aspiring New York senator Caroline Kennedy. “I was not commenting at all on Caroline Kennedy as a prospective U.S. senator, but rather on the seemingly arbitrary ways in which news organizations determine the level and kind of scrutiny given to those who aspire to public office,” she said. “In fact, I consider Ms. Kennedy qualified and experienced, and she could serve New York well.”

In portions of an interview with conservative John Ziegler released Thursday, Palin said it would be “interesting” to see how coverage of Kennedy’s candidacy compared to her own media experience. “It’s going to be interesting to see how that plays out and I think that as we watch that we will perhaps be able to prove that there is a class issue here also that was such a factor in the scrutiny of my candidacy versus, say, the scrutiny of what her candidacy may be.”

Her office took particular issue with a Politico story that said Palin had called coverage of Kennedy to date too soft.

Palin’s office also charged that reporters were unfairly scrutinizing the governor and her family. “Just this week, false stories in the media surfaced alleging improper influence by the Palin administration or the governor herself,” they said in the Friday statement, pointing to a report by an Alaska paper on union charges that her administration had delayed serving an arrest warrant on the mother of Levi Johnston, fiance of Bristol Palin. Union officials later changed the substance of those allegations considerably.

Another report — that Johnston lacked the proper educational requirements for the position he held — resulted in his resignation from the job.

What I want to know is how she can go around preaching conservative/religious values when her own daughter is having a kid out of wedlock.

I didn't vote for McCain/Palin nor do I care for them. However, the rumors about her baby, Trig, not being hers is a little bit too much. If it's not her baby, then whose is it? Surely not Bristol as some have claimed. Bristol just gave birth! Trig and Tripp are not even 1 year apart, I don't believe. Enough of this foolishness with the Palins, please. Let her and her family alone to tend to Alaska's affairs. And it's the media that keeps focusing on her, drumming up stuff just to have a piece in the news...not worthy if you ask me....more important things are going on in this world to cover than constantly bringing Sarah Palin and her family into the spotlight.

I consider the statements made by Gov. Palin's office as being way to soft and polite to the media. The media goes way to far in their attempt
to discredit this woman. I understand the contempt for the republican party. As a republican for all my life; 41 voting years, I am appalled at
what the republican party has become. But I have not given up on the
principles of America and what it means. I consider Sarah Palin to be
a "Great American". She has risen to where she is on her own; not
by the republican party, not by the wealthy with an adjenda, but on her
own belief's and trying to make America a better place

If she keeps behaving like this, she's going to eventually alienate the conservatives who admire her most. At some point, they're going to consider her behavior to be unpresidential.

This coming from a women who not only insulted Barak Obama by calling him a terrorist, not to mention other serious personal attacks, but stuck by her accusations. Talk about a double standard. Look, when you dish it out, you better be able to take it.

Palin, how do you look at yourself in the mirror everday? You're such a hypocrite. You dish it out, but you can't take it. Still begging to be in the spotlight we see. Do us a favor and stay out of the media. You bring this upon yourself, can't you see that?

I truly appreciate Mrs. Palin's response to issues. The more she speaks, the more confident I am that our country will not be further exposed to her as a potnetial leader of the free world.

Is it just me, or does this seem like someone else is speaking for her? I mean, the Trig rumor came out a long while ago, she could have addressed it when she interviewed with Katie Couric, but she was likely unaware because she probably doesn't know how to read. Why are we still hearing about her anyway?

She expects to be held accountable, but when she was held accountable she abused her office, defended herself, and gave herself a clean bill of health. This is one totally hypocritical person. As for the business about the press, she seems to be singularly uninformed about the Internet, which has changed the face of "reporting" considerably. Do they even have Internet service in Alaska, is it? The press in fact gave Palin credibility by reporting what she said; the people who discredited her were ordinary citizens, bloggers, who said the obvious–this is one dumb wacko...Anyway, why is this creep still in the news?

Shut up, go away, you media seeking liar. How long are we going to have to endure this moron? If this is what the Republican party is serving up as its best and brightest then we are all in trouble.

I think she lacks self-confidence and maturity. She is constantly trying to explain herself because she knows she is not on the up and up.

Why does the news media keep giving this woman a venue? She is no longer relevant.

Regardless of what one may think of Gov. Palin, News reporting officially died in 2008. Similarly, journalism reverted back to the era in 1900's of "Muckracking". Few agencies are left to provide accurate, unbiased news, and the those who are left do not have the finances to compete with FOX, CNN, ABC,NBC, CBS, or thw wanna-be print media (that died years ago).

Most of you people defending the media or bashing Palin are a joke. The media are sleazeballs, do identify only with the spineless far left elements, and have to focus on peripheral stories and issues outside of the real scope to be taken seriously.

Have fun you anal, uptight, losers!

Oh, if you have comments, send them to your Mom and she will forward them on to me. I try to steer clear of CNN as my source for news!

The best action all media can take regarding Governor Palin is to simply ignore her.

We have enough to think about without hearing her complaints.

Media, Just Say No More Palin!

So, writing a book shows that you are ready to be a senator? And I have seen some interviews that Caroline has given, HUH HUH.....that's what she starts out saying. Sarah was not a great "surprise" speaker either but at least I can see it from both sides!

GO SARAH, you have been silenced for the last time.

I'm always surprised at the comments made by supposed adults. I'm surprised at the sicko people who feel they need to comment. You rip a person apart for no rational reason. Sick, Sick, Sick. I fear for our country.

2.8 million jobs were lost last year. Our economy is in shambles and Sarah Palin rails about the "unfair scrunity of her and her family by the media. She claims press coverage distorts her remarks, Katie Couric doesn't ask the "right questions". I don't care to hear her views on how she feels maligned by the press because misinformation is printed about Levi Johnston, the clothes the RNC purchased for her, the travel expenses paid by taxpayers for her family, and the money she receives for working at home in Wasilla. If she made herself more accessible to interviews we would figure out what to believe about her. Instead she manages her image as a "maverick" then crys foul when the press digs deepe and the bloggers go wild and questions arise that maybe she's not who she says she is. She snubs the debate moderator by saying she's going to talk directly to us and not answer debate questions. She isolates herself from mainstream media interviews; uses her children as props to further her own political ambition then crys foul when a late night comedy show uses "humor" at the expense of her children.

She smiled as her supporters cried out to 'Kill' the "Terrorist', in the same way that she smiled when they called her a 'hottie'. Mind you, these are 'adults' (i.e. collective mindset of those you would find at a Palin Klan rally).

African-American members of the media covering her hate festivals were threatened.

And somehow she is the victim?

I think it's time to haul off her 'Bubba Gump’ lower-lip to a movie studio lot somewhere.
