Borger: Do congressional Dems need intervention?

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/POLITICS/01/09/borger.democrats/art.obama.gi.jpg caption="Some key Democrats are balking at President-elect Barack Obama's economic stimulus plan."]WASHINGTON (CNN) - Yes, it's early. Very early. Barack Obama hasn't even moved into Blair House yet.

But it's time - for an intervention.

How else to confront the oddly self-destructive behavior of congressional Democrats? How else to figure out why they seem intent on depriving their new president of a swift - and truly bipartisan - victory on his all-important economic stimulus package?

Watch Candy Crowley report on Obama's sales pitch

It's as if they haven't quite figured out what the public meant when it voted to change business as usual. Or that sometimes, in order to get something done, the perfect is the enemy of the good, as the cliché goes. Or to effectively cripple the Obama presidency in its infancy would be, er, bad for them.

    Texas Teacher,

You really can't be a teacher. If you are, I hope its 1st grade. Wouldn't want the kiddies to be smarter then you.

We need checks and balances, we need to control spending. We need to create jobs and eliminate welfare.

Thanks "bk" for saying "Did any of you read the article about Obama appointing lobbyist?"

He took BIG corporate money disguised as "individuals". But now it is coming time for payback. And he actually convinced some gullable people he took no corporate money.

  5. Horray for the Dems - From the GOP

We Republicans are happy as clams to see the self destrctive Dems in action. Whether it be the violation of the Constitution and states' rights in refusing to seat the duly appointed Senator from IL; the bickering over the stimulus bill; the puch back on the tax cut; the jealously of Pelosi; incompetence and arrogance of Reid; this is all music to the ears of the GOP who now see great hope in taking over the Senate majority by the mid term elections...

    OFF the Subject:

Why is CNN not reporting on Reid bringing back the Senate to vote on a pork laden Land Grab Bill?????? He is trying to get by with this and basically put the shaft up the American people by taking land full of energy resources and deeming it federal land which would then not be able to be used.

  7. One term and out for O'blah blah

We now see that the promised change means nothing but more of the same. Republicans feel pretty good right now knowing that Barack O Blah Blah is a "one and done" president. We always knew that the Dems were corrupt and incompetent -all we needed for proof was to give them the stage - Thank you Dems for showing us your true colors so early

This is going to be funny, to see Harry and Nancy have to slap Obama down and put him back in his place in the White House. He wants to be the New Dictatorship, but we have those already in the Congress.

I sure hope the Democrats hurry up and line up behind President Obama as the people are doing. If anyone has a better idea the President says he will listen to them, it is easy to be critical, much harder to come up with constructive ideas. We need new thinking in Congress and in Washington. Out with the old ways, they just don't work.

Yes you DO work for Obama!
And if you have not figured it out yet, voters, who are sick and tired of posturing, will help you to understand it!

Pelosi, Reid, Frank, Dodd, and Kennedy are out to inflate their politcal fortunes regardless as to whats best for the country. No wonder congressional poll are lower than the President's.
Its amazing to me how the likes of Proud American and Texas Teacher get so many of their posts through on these bloggs. It seems that the hateful lefties are the choice of the CNN Censors. This post will probably not make it either

How can any republican voter or reporter criticize the democrats when you look at the mess the democrats inherited.

Who did the Democrats inherit this mess from – surprise, surprise, the "Greedy Old Party".

The Dems are as corrupt as the Repubs...it just disgusts me. Let's see...Blago, Kilpatrick, Spitzer, Jefferson, Dixon, Kennedy and the list goes on. It doesn't matter what side you are on, it's about time people start doing some research into the people they are electing into office.

I don't understand how Gloria Bolger has the program she has. She is no pundit.... Wait until your new president takes office before you start criticizing. I follow your elections closely, and this is the first one
where so called "political experts the news reports" are already saying what the new president should be doing.
Barack is correct there is only one president at a time.... criticize the present leaders and members of the senate and congress for what is happening now. This no bias, no bull is a ridiculous show... does she think she could do better. Someone who has all the facts, not just from the outside, would be a better person to have a show like this!

Gee, Gloria, I thought you were smarter than this.

Obama put out a conservative plan with a price tag at the low end of what economists insist is required.

Now Congressional Democrats and leading economists are crying out that it's not big enough and bold enough to do the trick.

They are completely drowning out the obstructionist Republicans who complain about increasing the deficit (after presiding over the biggest deficit increase in US history). And Obama will be "forced" to bow to the pressure and the expert advice and INCREASE his plan, still saving his moderate, bipartisan image.

Obama's just smarter than you are, that's all.

Those members coming out with their grievences are those who have never supported Obama anyway. They are fearful that their "influence" would be further diminished and are looking for ways to rock the boat in order to keep their names in the limelight. This includes people like DiFi. Okay, so they want to be obstructionists – let the voters be reiminded of that come the next round. At this time of crisis in our country, they think more about just themselves than the country, and thus these same jokers do not deserve the support of anyone.

I agree with u, Ms. Borger. The democrats in congress need to learn how to grow up and act like adults and not annoying little children.

They looked absolutely pathetic. They knew very well that Obamas team was going to listen to them and sort out the details. They did not need to complain to the media. Have some manners.

Its consultation what Obama wants and what do they do? Act like children.
