[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/01/12/art.beyonce.gi.jpg caption="Beyonce will be among the stars to appear at the inaugural kickoff event."](CNN) - The opening celebration of the presidential inauguration will feature a massive line-up of musical all-stars performing a free show in the shadow of the Lincoln Memorial, the Presidential Inaugural Committee said Monday.

The event will feature performances by: "Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Bono, Garth Brooks, Sheryl Crow, Renee Fleming, Josh Groban, Herbie Hancock, Heather Headley, John Legend, Jennifer Nettles, John Mellencamp, Usher Raymond IV, Shakira, Bruce Springsteen, James Taylor, will.i.am, and Stevie Wonder," said the committee. "Among those reading historical passages will be Jamie Foxx, Martin Luther King III, Queen Latifah and Denzel Washington."

The release confirmed that Rev. Gene Robinson, an openly gay Episcopal bishop, will deliver the invocation, and that additional performances may be added.

The event will be televised by HBO on an open signal accessible to all U.S. viewers with access to cable, telcos or satellite television.

Mike in NYC – You must be one of those neo-con hypocrites, judging everyone as a group. Even the bible tells you not to judge, lest you be judged.

There's only one thing that bothers me more than hypocrites – neo-con hypocrites.

    @ President Barack Obama's comment:

You may want to ease up on your hate–your going to have at least 4 and probably 8 years of this to deal with. His name won't change– and he'll still "be your president." Stop etching away at the longevity of your life with so much hate. At least quit looking for every online article about him to vent on...this one was about entertainment and not much else. Don't like his policies? Find a POLITICLE article to comment on. Don't like that he's Black and running the country? Join the klan and vent with them, you'll be in better company. That goes for the rest of you with similar views. Losers.

    @Denise Bolin:

I'm not neo. Paleo. No difference, though, right? We’re all Nazis in your book.

As for neo-cons - Fox News absolutely worships celebrities, despite their occasional fake moralizing about evil Hollywood liberals.

Mellencamp is trash. His "song" plugging the Jena 6 fraud was delusional, know-nothing, white guilt politics at its worst. Sorry to see Renee Fleming there, however.

YES. COMMENT NUMBER ONE... THEY SHOULD'VE LEFT BEYONCE OUT OF THIS ONE. SHE DOESN'T DESERVE TO PERFORM AFTER HER JEALOUSLY OF JENNIFER HUDSON WHEN SHE WON. INSTEAD OF BEING HAPPY FOR ANOTHER SISTER .. SHE SHOWED HER TRUE SELF. SHE SHOULD NOT BE ABLE TO PERFORM .
    NOT WORTHY AT ALL.

I hope and pray that with a president with the intellect, temperament, and broadminded world view of Barack Obama, more of us will realize how an adult behaves. It has been a very long time since we had an adult in the White House. Among the truths he has already demonstrated are: Adults do not treat people with whom they disagree as if they were a lower form of being. Adults realize that each of us has an indivdual perspective, and that one can sometimes learn something from someone with a different point of view. Adults realize that they will not always have their way. Adults treat all people with civility. Adults realize that the world does not revolve around them. Adults realize that we are all part of one large community on this very small planet. May God bless President Obama and all the citizens of this world.

To simple minded Peter in (CA) at 5:25 you do realize that more than one person can be named Matt at a time and are equally allowed to use their own name on forums. I know a mental midget like you can't get your head around this or was your whole point of leaving a comment was to raise attention to the fact that you are a moron?

What a waste of taxpayer's money. He should set an example and forgo the inauguration festivities in light of the economy. What else should we expect from someone who' bringing the in-laws to live at taxpayer's expense. What next? Aunts? Uncles? Cousins?

Get real people. This is a BIG FAT WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY.

I think everyone who is being negative needs to shut the hell up. This is without doubt a cause for celebration. This ceremony is not only a symbol of where we are going but also about where we have been and what we have overcome. Yes, let there be no doubt that this is a time to celebrate. Whether you voted for Barak Obama or not, whether you be black, white, short, tall, fat, skinny, democrat, republican, young old, whatever and whoever, with his election WE have ALL overcome adversity in this. If a black man can be elected President of the United States of America, then ALL of us can do ANYTHING we are willing to work for.

I guess everytime obama hears the news that less people are coming than he'd dreamed he just keeps adding opening acts. He can't stand the fact the whole world will not be standing in his presence. I'll be clicking off right after I watch a real man and a real lady get aboard the jet on there way home. You'll be missed President Bush. I'm going to skip the gong show after you depart.

To all the sore losers complaining about the cost of president OBAMA's inauguration, I am contributing in the form of donation and so many other citizens. Because of this, the inauguration will probably cost less the the taxpayers. Get it?

Well, I think I will contribute more money now because I want this moment to MEMORABLE as the MAN!

President OBAMA, you have my full support financial and emotional.

Continuous fluff BS,will the media EVER really look into Eric Holder or Panetta or other cabinet selections for their "issues" and reasons why THEY SHOLD NOT BE PART OF THE CABINET?

Some GOOD picks some SCARY ones as well.

Three main campaign points, taxing the rich, closing gitmo and ending the Iraq war YESTERDAY, and all three he is going back on, but he is so coooooooooooooool…….

Can we get any objectivity or is it going to be a "fawning festival" for four more years?

I use the term "MORE", as we have already gotten it for two full years already
