Senior senator blunt on Burris 'mess'

Burris visited Capitol Hill last week.

Burris visited Capitol Hill last week.

(CNN) - A senior Democratic senator told CNN Monday the Senate was moving toward seating Roland Burris because "when you're dealt a losing hand, you skip to the end."

The senator, who asked not to be quoted by name because of the sensitivties of the situation, called the current situation a "mess" that Democratic leaders are anxious to end, and said that a leading idea is to seat Burris "without prejudice" - which, under Senate rules, would allow them the ability to revisit the issue, since Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich is in such uncertain legal territory.

Another senior Democratic source insists the details on how to seat Burris haven't been decided.

But given the assessment of the senior senator, and remarks made by Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin Sunday, it doesn't appear Burris will go through the lengthy process Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Durbin described last week - marking an apparent reversal by Democratic leaders.

    TWO WORDS:

    FAKE SMILE!

Burris' fake smile says it all. This man is hiding something.

So much for standing up to corruption. Afraid of being called racist, Durbin and Reid did a complete 360. The governor wins the round, the people of Illinois lose, again. This was the very thing Fitzgerald was trying to stop.

Perhaps I was premature when I declared the seat was lost.

To Johnboy and other gop bloggers: What planet have you been living on the past 8 years? It is your gop that has put us in this horrible shape. While the Burris mess is ugly, I'll take a Democratic President and Congress ANYDAY and ANYTIME over you blow-hard repugs.

Its a mess because Reid made it so. The idiot should have checked Federal law and Chicago law to know what the worst case scenario would be instead of running off at the mouth like he rules the senate on his word alone. Just like he challenges Obama before he took office – I don't think Reid will be around for the full 4/8 years unless he changes his perspective.

The government has so much more important things to occupy their time. Go ahead and seat Burris, and don't worry....this cocky political opportunist will eventually self-destruct.

Larry, Larry Larry 12:17pm; you and the entire country know the republicans had majority control of the house and senate from 1998 through 2006. The end of one term and 2/3 rds of the next presidency. Stop with the misrepresentation – you boyz screwed the country for the rich and had everything from bathroom sex scandals to congress men chasing page boys trying to get email sex to having wrap around decks built for kick backs not to mention torture and a host of other issues. STOP BEING SILLY

Get used to the mess as it is moving from Chicago to Washington. This type of political shenanigans will be par for the course with the crooks form Chicago taking over this once great country.

OK seat him, but then investigate. Bet the Dems don't do that. What about Burris' work for Blago's 2006 campaign – specifically digging up dirt on the opposition. Think that's the only connection? What about a thorough investigation of all Burris has done for Blago since then and accounting for all his time since Blago was supposedly selling the seat. An investigation more thorough than "Did you do it?". "No", "OK"/

But the Dems will say they've got more imporant things to do – like the economy. That may be true, but what has Congress done mostly since mid-September when things really collasped – beg for their jobs and take more extended vacations. They've already wasted 3 months.

I feel bad for the people of Illinois. If they seat Burris, I hope they unseat him in 2010. Jesse Jr. should have gotten that seat. Blago and Burris both know it. Jesse didn't pay to play, but Burris did and everybody knows it.

I'm not sure why the State Senate can't just say impeach Blago so the Lt. Gov. can make the appoiintment.

Who cares about, Burris. Obama will ruin our country anyway, so let's just get to Jan 20th and see the devastation start. The loyal subjects are anxiously awaiting The One's coronation, so let the fun begin!

The current situation with Burris will resolve. Burris is going to have a huge problem in 2010 when he runs for office because (1) he is now appointed by a Governor who has now been impeached, (2) he is like all the other people who donated thousands of dollars to the re-elect Blagojevich–and all those other people claim there was no Pay to Play involved (yawn), (3) Burris has failed in every run for office in Illinois-the guy can't even win as major. The only way Burris can get into the Senate is by a corrupt, impeached Governor. His "career" will be short lived.
