A major Bush rule gets scrapped by Obama

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/01/21/art.ovaloffice.cnn.jpg caption="What’s missing in this picture?"] (CNN) - It's the same Oval Office. The same desk. Even the same curtains. But President Obama has already made one major change: Go through eight years of White House photos, and you won't find one of former President Bush in the Oval Office without his jacket on.

It wasn't just a personal preference. In the Bush administration, it was a rule: Jackets in the Oval Office - and now, it seems, one of the first Bush-era regulations to get scrapped in the Obama White House.

- CNN's John King contributed to this report

It's ironic that W was more focused on APPEARING professional than actually BEING professional.

Well, at least he looked like he was supposed to be there.

so bush prefered to wear a jacket... obama does not... big deal

obama can wear jeans, teevas, and a t-shirt to the oval office for all I care, and Bush could have too.

In fact I'd prefer it if he did. All the hype about not being a politician as usual – the whole suit/tie look basically screams "I can look the part, but I don't have to acomplish anything."

I appreciate President Obama s common touch and trying to be down to earth one of us type guys. But the Oval Office deserves the coat and tie and the formal professional look.
He has another office he can do the causal look in. Let's keep this one at the level of repect it deserves.

Such cavalier attitude does not bode well for the new president. He should not start using up the goodwill people have for him.

It is about showing respect to the office. He should always wear a jacket. Especially when greeting people. You young people may not understand that but he needs to show respect to an older generation who he also is the President of.

If the most powerful jobi n theworld doesn't require a dress code then what does. Grow up children.

Geez, this is "news". I'm an old codger, so I've gone the whole route from when coats & ties were required office attire for men and dresses and high heels were required for women all the way down to the often overly "casual" attire accepted today. Trust me to Ms Houpt who questioned "how can you work in a coat"– it really can be done. 🙂 But does it really make any difference if Obama takes off his jacket? I don't care if Obama works in his pajamas just as long as he gets the job done.

Good for Obama....It only means he plans to get something done...Bush never did a good days work in 8 years so had no reason to take off his coat...Maybe now some one will do some work in the Oval Office for a change..

He's got to roll up his sleeves if he's going to get to work at redistributing the wealth and borrowing more money....errr...I mean if he's going to fix the economy.

I used to take my jacket off when I was getting ready to do some serious engineering work. So I can see he is ready for the work at hand.

Judge not a person by their wardrobe but by the output of their efforts. Judge not a person by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character (or their resume). Oops, sorry, I forgot how this person got elected, sans experience...
