White House press office hit by e-mail outage

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/POLITICS/01/22/obama.blackberry/art.obamabb.gi.jpg caption="Staff for the new, wired president found themselves without e-mail Monday."]

President Obama has his blackberry — but his tech-savvy press operation has been without e-mail for most of the day, and it’s not yet clear when they’ll get it back.

Obama press staffers had just made the leap to their official White House e-mail addresses Monday morning when the Outlook server went down. They weren’t the only ones affected by the crash, which also hit the first lady’s office and other White House offices.

An apologetic Press Secretary Robert Gibbs told reporters at 1:30 pm press briefing that the server meltdown was responsible for the delay in responding to their e-mailed questions. But late Monday, nearly six hours since the server first went haywire, staffers still can’t use their official e-mail addresses — and a press aide could not tell CNN when the press office might be able to start sending and receiving messages again.

Hey, Rick! Is it possible for you make a comment without some sort of asinine insult? Or are you just following the lead of one of your right-wing talking heads? I think Jeff in Illinois got it right! Cheney was always the Macchiavelli behind G.W. Bush.

I kind of agree with Jeff, and Rick just give people a chance, the press whats to know more than he knows. Plus Bush had how many press Secretary.

One week into the office, I think that what Obama is doing is a helevalot better than Bush had done, deregulating everything and trying to kill the American people.

Oh Rick by the way, do you enjoy our Government spy on you all the time.

To me it is an invasion of my privacy

The email server probably went down from no-use in the past. Did the Bush people even know how to use email?

The Outlook server? Come on CNN, do a little research. Microsoft Exchange much? Outlook = Client, Exchange = Server. Even "email server" would have made you look a little less ill-informed.

    From Jeff in Illinois

"Maybe past VP Dick "Not part of the Executive Branch" Cheney's email deleting process wasn't quite finished."

Or maybe former VP Cheney's virus bug left as a parting gift finally kicked in. LOL!!!

    Obama for 8 years!

Get over it Rick. Your guy lost. It's time for unity behind our current administration. Bush's administration had no unity either and look where that got us. Partianship has to become a thing of the past. Either we all work together or our country will completely fail.

Too bad , too late America...........should have really thought about our presidential choices, Senator McCain and even Hillary Clinton would have been a much better choice. I hope we get our acts together in 2010 and 2012.

How can staffers answer questions when they don't have any answers just like their new leader. Gibbs can't even answer a question. Clowns
Glad to see Obama is not giving any of the major networks the first interview. He went to his home network.

Rick..........? what are you vieing for Limbaugh's job? Enough already with the partisan vitriol.........as a senior citizen Republican I'd rather go to the senior citizen center and play cards and listen to all the old folks farting than listen/read the partisan garbage that is tearing this country apart. Paris Hilton needs a new manager go work for her.
