Winfrey shocked over 'Senator Oprah' news

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/01/26/art.2oprah0126.gi.jpg caption="Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich said Monday that he considered Oprah Winfrey to replace President Barack Obama in the U.S. Senate."]
(CNN) - Surprised to hear Illinois might have had a Senator Oprah? So was Winfrey herself.

The talk show host said Monday she’d had no clue Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich had considered tapping her for the state’s open Senate slot before he confirmed the news in a Monday morning TV interview.

Watch: Ill. governor on considering Winfrey

"If I had been watching [the ABC interview], as I watch from the treadmill, I probably would have fallen off the treadmill," Winfrey told friend Gayle King in a radio interview after hearing the news.

Blagojevich admitted Monday he once considered asking the media mogul to fill the senate seat vacated by President Barack Obama, before deciding to appoint former state attorney general Roland Burris.

“She seemed to be someone who had helped Barack Obama in a significant way to become President,” he told ABC, adding that Winfrey “had a much broader bully pulpit than a lot of senators."

The embattled governor - currently facing impeachment proceedings for allegedly plotting to sell the vacant position to the highest bidder - will take calls from viewers tonight on CNN’s Larry King Live at 9 pm ET.

Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha. I guess Oprah is wondering how much he was going to charge her for the seat.

Blago evokes ANYONE'S name he can think of in the news. He THINKS that makes him look good and make friends. What a bozo he is! When he talks he just starts throwing out names...Oprah, ML King Jr, Jesse Jackson, Nelson Mandella. Do we HAVE to listen to Madman Blago?!?!?!?! NOw he goes on TV instead of going to answer Senate questions. I guess next he will think he's a rock star. And CNN is stupid enough to give him a grandstand. There is NO WAY WILL I WATCH LARRY KING give Madman Blago a stage!

Of course she didn't know. Blago was just throwing a name out to grab a headline. Given how he used the race card with the Burris appointment, it should be a surprise to anyone.

Does ANYONE REALLY think he was serious? He is just thinking of his post-office gig. If he does have a chance to support his family outside of the bars that he so deserves, he needs MORE national news.

Even this alleged appointment of Oprah would have been inappropriate. Blago said that she was someone who had helped Obama in a significant way to become president. That does not qualify her to be a Senator. In my opinion that would disqualify her because it would have the bitter taste of payback. Blago is obviously ethically challenged just by the examination of this statement alone. This shows how his mind works – tit for tat mentality and bolsters the federal claims against him. By appearing on T.V. to appeal his case and trash the rules of the Senate rather than showing up at the Senate hearing, he has shown a blatant disregard for one of the branches of the states government and painted all of the Senators as judicially challenged.

Oprah is already a "star" in her own right, does numerous good deeds for people, supports charities big time, she doesnt "need" a position like senator to further her career, OR prevent her from the GOOD WORKS she is already doing ! Blago is just grasping at straws..

She wouldn't want it. There are not enough unencumbered surfaces in Illinois on which she can post her name, her picture, or both. She probably was shocked that she WASN'T selected, given that, of course, Illinois, if not the world, revolves around St. Oprah.

Oprah is qualified to run any ship she likes. You know some people are haters, and for some reason race always need to rear its ugly head. I am so glad that God is the one and only final judge in our lives because there are just some people their heart is corroded with hatred.
