Winfrey shocked over 'Senator Oprah' news

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/01/26/art.2oprah0126.gi.jpg caption="Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich said Monday that he considered Oprah Winfrey to replace President Barack Obama in the U.S. Senate."]
(CNN) - Surprised to hear Illinois might have had a Senator Oprah? So was Winfrey herself.

The talk show host said Monday she’d had no clue Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich had considered tapping her for the state’s open Senate slot before he confirmed the news in a Monday morning TV interview.

Watch: Ill. governor on considering Winfrey

"If I had been watching [the ABC interview], as I watch from the treadmill, I probably would have fallen off the treadmill," Winfrey told friend Gayle King in a radio interview after hearing the news.

Blagojevich admitted Monday he once considered asking the media mogul to fill the senate seat vacated by President Barack Obama, before deciding to appoint former state attorney general Roland Burris.

“She seemed to be someone who had helped Barack Obama in a significant way to become President,” he told ABC, adding that Winfrey “had a much broader bully pulpit than a lot of senators."

The embattled governor - currently facing impeachment proceedings for allegedly plotting to sell the vacant position to the highest bidder - will take calls from viewers tonight on CNN’s Larry King Live at 9 pm ET.

Thats all this country needs.Give me a break. She did buy Obama's election, that is the fact. History was made with Obama ,now lets see if he can live up to what 69% of this country voted him in for.

This guy is going to need some serious therapy. I hope the state of Illinois' correction facilities have some good shrinks. Or he could just tune in to the Oprah show. lol.

Perhaps Oprah can schedule Blagojevich for a psychological exam on her show. Why is the media giving this wacko such a PR blitz to corrupt the airwaves?

I am so SICK of the cult of Oprah. The woman made something of herself – great. But, she is merely a talk show host. She has all these discussions but no solutions. She has no children, she is not married, and she hasn't had to worry about money or paying a mortgage or a bill in decades. I am sorry I just don't relate to her appeal.

Oh, let me say this also:
There is nothing wrong with being unmarried and having no children, but she has these shows where she talks to couples, and parents, etc., and I just can't relate to her at all because she can't relate to me.

Why the surprise? She's famous, overhyped, underqualified, and of course, she's black. The Illinois Senate seat will be the first to be ethnically apportioned (but certainly not the last).

CNN's own poll shows that 85% of the the respondents do not think that Oprah would be a good senator.

Now who in the world would make up that other 15%?

I think we all are as tired about news from this guilty Gov. as we are of Sara Palin. Why in heck would Oprah have anything to do with this jerk.. Her life is the envy of all those Politicans.

I'm really confused by these comments about Oprah as if she had something to do with what Blago said. He is obviously trying to throw her name out there to garner some sort of sympathy from those who really like her.

But even though she had nothing to do with him, look at all the negative comments about her from people that just love to hate.

But then again, these are the same folks that are "anti-abortion", but don't mind sending thousands of "already-born" folks off to die for no reason.

The same folks that say they're Christians, but believe Israel should bomb Palestinian villages back to the stone ages; killing thousands of innocents.

America is starting to see through the right. Right through the right.

We all know Oprah only wants to be President. The Senate is a too small position for her. This lady changes lives on a whim.

Oprah would have Bin Laden on her show if she could get him via satelite – at this point, I don't belive anything shocks this woman.

I'm fairly certain Blago is going to either go on a shooting spree, or he's going to suicide. I can't imagine a scenario where someone as nuts as he is goes to prison without bullets flying.

Some folks are acting like Oprah had something to do with the stupid announcement this guy made this morning. He's a nut. She is just minding her business and what a business it is.

She has nothing to do with this... Grow up people.

Scott, since when do you have to choose between protecting the innocent unborn and protecting your country? These are not opposing postions. It's your opinion that those in Iraq have died for 'no reason'. Besides, if you want to play numbers games, there have been more lives lost through abortions in the US alone than all those killed on all sides in WWII.
