Winfrey shocked over 'Senator Oprah' news

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/01/26/art.2oprah0126.gi.jpg caption="Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich said Monday that he considered Oprah Winfrey to replace President Barack Obama in the U.S. Senate."]
(CNN) - Surprised to hear Illinois might have had a Senator Oprah? So was Winfrey herself.

The talk show host said Monday she’d had no clue Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich had considered tapping her for the state’s open Senate slot before he confirmed the news in a Monday morning TV interview.

Watch: Ill. governor on considering Winfrey

"If I had been watching [the ABC interview], as I watch from the treadmill, I probably would have fallen off the treadmill," Winfrey told friend Gayle King in a radio interview after hearing the news.

Blagojevich admitted Monday he once considered asking the media mogul to fill the senate seat vacated by President Barack Obama, before deciding to appoint former state attorney general Roland Burris.

“She seemed to be someone who had helped Barack Obama in a significant way to become President,” he told ABC, adding that Winfrey “had a much broader bully pulpit than a lot of senators."

The embattled governor - currently facing impeachment proceedings for allegedly plotting to sell the vacant position to the highest bidder - will take calls from viewers tonight on CNN’s Larry King Live at 9 pm ET.

Stop making fun of Blago. You all should also look in the mirror. You are all no different.

I do not know whyw e should give so much importance to Oprah and also Gov. Blago. Leave them alone. They do not deserve to be in the news.

People please use common sense. Please stop criticizing Oprah. She had nothing to do with Blago's comments. She herself found his comment amusing. I don't know if he was sincere or playing the sympathy card. I like Oprah found his comment amusing.

This guy is a real narcissist. Replay the interview and you will see how he played the interviewer by asking who she was thinking of and then saying "Oh yeah". Right Blago! Try to align yourself with Oprah. P.T. Barnum has a protege.

Oprah is the President of one of the most successful business in the world; people who work with her do not lose their jobs.

Obama defeated the Clinton machinery and the Republican machinery.

You dare refer to them as 'windbag' and 'unqualified'?

    What are your personal achievements?

Why is everyone downing Oprah. She didn't bring this up. Blago did.
She had nothing to do with it. You people are all nuts. Give her a break and get him out of office.

Why the surprise? She's famous, overhyped, underqualified, and of course, she's black. The Illinois Senate seat will be the first to be ethnically apportioned (but certainly not the last).

That sounds slightly racist Mike in NYC.

I got nothing for Oprah, she had nothing for women during the primary race did she?. She made a fortune off of the backs of many women and when the time came for her to back up all of the bull, (empowerment of women etc.) we all witnessed the truth, the actual truth of her. this woman will support her no more in any way.

He's just blowing smoke and making it up as he goes while he still has the microphone. The Illinois Senate needs to get off their rears and find this guy guilty, remove him from office and end this non-sense. Well we can only hope, it will take the press to ignore him before we get any peace!

Why even make a story out of this. It obviously went in one side of Blagos head and out the other Oprah would be a joke!

Oprah seems to be as qualified as Obama. So why not appoint her? Of course, she might have to take a pay cut. Can we stop referring to this as news and call it what it is – entertainment for people who can't participate in a meaningful conversation.

I expect tomorrow Blago will be seen at the local animal shelter saving puppies from euthinasia then later at a homeless shelter dishing out soup. Might even be sporting an Arizona Cardinals jacket or a minister's collar. Folks, wake up! He's certifiable! He is not fun crazy, he is pathologcally ill.

Actually, you need to be born in the United States to be a natural-born U.S. citizen as required by the Constitution to be Pres. If all it took was a U.S.-born parent, Winston Churchill would have been American.

It's all moot, however, because Pres. Obama was born in Hawaii. Those people who choose not to believe this fact need some therapy or rehab or something!
