Jill Biden begins teaching at DC-area community college

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/01/19/art.bidens.gi.jpg caption="Jill Biden will continue to teach at a DC-area community college."]WASHINGTON (CNN) - Jill Biden is back in the classroom: The veteran professor and wife of Vice President Jill Biden began a new job at a DC-area community college Tuesday.

The White House said that Mrs. Biden will teach two English courses this semester as an adjunct professor at Northern Virginia Community College.

Biden has taught English in public schools and community colleges for nearly three decades, half of that at Delaware Technical & Community College.

PhD....she should be commended for that alone in what seems to be becoming an anti-education country. Good for her.

Roy....it is actually a blessing. If enough of the Palin threads have few to no comments, maybe we will finally rid ourselves of that overblown poor excuse for a candidate.

Funny how that same 30 years of progressive experience also represents the period our education system declined dramatically. Well.., not so funny for the majority of the students.

I really like Jill. She just seems ....well, nice. Not something you see too often in the belt-way.

    Big Al,

Have you ever taught college? taught anything besides your local boy-scout troop? Its not as easy as it may look and sound. With comments like yours, we apparently need as many educators as we can get.

  6. Community College Awareness

Jill Biden should be admired – both for the work she does, and the choices she's made. Community colleges are the wave of the future. They're where the real action will be, for higher education in America. And Jill Biden is an example of where forward-thinking American leaders are headed.

Well Monk, Jill Biden's position should be publicized for the simple reason of showing that community college professors have just as much educational value as those in 5 year schools.

@Big Al, January 27th, 2009 5:19 pm ET who spluttered...

"Yawn!! Ph. D in Education. What a waste!"

    - Well, "Big" Al, I can only imagine that your level of education peaked with "smoking out behind the high school shop building". But that's OK, you're a fine representative of the typical Republican voter. Now tell me how Caribou Barbie's five-college-in-six-years for a BA in journalism is infinitely superior. You know you want to...

I think that it is awesome that a woman with such high rank is teaching at the local level. She obviosly does not need to have that job but she does anyway. That really shows something about her character and about how much she cares about or childrens education and future.

I'm so happy to hear this news. I teach psychology at Columbia State Community College in Tennessee and I am happy to see a member of the Obama Administration supporting community colleges.

I believe that the Obama education team should do more to support community colleges. Community colleges are essential to higher education in this great nation. Let's hope Obama does not forget this.

I wonder what persons job was taken from them to give priority to Jill Biden? As precious as jobs are right now you know there was not just an opening. Would the college have done this for anyone else?

Seems like once again the politicians (and spouses) are being shown favoritism!

I am a community college administrator and I have worked for twenty years in the two year public college system. We, who work in the community college system love our students and we completely understand Jill's reluctance to move to a four year institution. There is a magic in the two year college and an especially rewarding interaction with students trying to better their lives through education. You go Jill. You make us proud. Thanks for shining the light on us.

I agree we should apply the proper title before her name. It's not like it took her 5 years to otbain a certificate in journalism like som–say Palin.

Great job, Dr. Jill Biden. Keep setting a good example for future wives of VP's.

So many negative comments on this subject. One question for you folks: When was the last time a VP wife taught and more so in a community college? Oh man...give her credit will ya! she don't have to work if she does not want to. Good grief...
