Palin launches political action committee

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/POLITICS/11/12/palin.future/art.palin.gi.jpg caption="SarahPac will allow Palin to travel nationwide to campaign for Republicans."]WASHINGTON (CNN) - Sarah Palin has launched a new political action committee called SarahPac, signaling that the Alaska Governor intends to remain a player in national politics even after her failed bid to become the country’s first female vice president.

"SarahPac will support local and national candidates who share Gov. Palin's ideas and goals for our country," says the PAC’s Web site, which promises that Palin will be "a strong voice for energy independence and reform."

A spokesperson for SarahPac confirmed that Palin is behind the group and said it was registered with the Federal Election Commission on Monday evening. The Web site went live on Tuesday morning and is already soliciting donations.

"The PAC is a smart thing to do because she’s getting so many speaking requests still, so if she gets a request from, say, Bob McDonnell in Virginia, she could do that travel out of her PAC money,” explained the spokesperson, noting that Palin has been in high demand from Republicans around the country since the campaign ended. In December, the governor traveled to Georgia to campaign for Republican Senate candidate Saxby Chambliss in that state's runoff election.

Palin posted a note on her Facebook page Tuesday afternoon promoting her new committee.

"Hi Friends, I wanted you all to be among the first to know that I've launched my new political action committee, SarahPAC, today," the post says, telling supporters to "stay tuned for updates."

The domain name "SarahPac.com" was registered on January 2 to Campaign Solutions, a Web consulting firm in northern Virginia with longstanding ties to John McCain, which processed online donations for the McCain campaign and the Republican National Committee in 2008. The URL is set to expire in 2012, according to online records.

Rebecca Donatelli, the chairman of Campaign Solutions, confirmed her company is working for the group.

Calls to a Palin adviser in Alaska were not immediately returned.

UPDATE: According to a copy the FEC filing, SarahPac's statement of organization was filed by Virginia political consultant Timothy Crawford, who is listed on the paperwork as the group's treasurer. Reached by phone, Crawford told CNN he plans to sit down in the coming weeks with Palin to discuss her plans for the committee.

This is a woman who won't go quietly into the night....unfortunately for us. Palin, you lost. Get over yourself. We don't care about you anymore. The most lasting image of you from the 2008 election is going to be Tina Fey on SNL or your interviews from Couric and Gibbs; I guarantee if you run in 2012 this is the image people will have of you. Blame McCain's people all you want babe; YOU'RE the one who botched the interviews and made yourself look like a fool. No one else.

When she learns to effectively govern and make sure the needs of Alaskans are met then maybe she would be a viable candidate. For me she is just a clever opportunist, however maybe that is all you need to be a politician.

This news makes me so happy. Here's a person, culturally, historically, politically, and literally illiterate who's vying to be a voice in the GOP. What a symbol to follow!

Good Going Sarah, you found another loophole so you do not have to pay travel expenses for you and your family. You still want others to pay for it. This is just a legal scam on her part, look at how much she charged the State of Alaska to trot her kids to doings that they were not even invited to. Stay Home Sarah and let rest of the country just forget about you.

God Bless Sarah P. She is the best thing to happen to the Democratic party in centuries. I strongly will support her candidacy for the Republic nomination in 2012 and forever. If she wins the nomination, the GOP as it now stands will finally die turn into dust and perhaps rise in the form that its founders wanted. A party that would stay out of peoples personal lives, protect us from criminal activities when it is a national threat (Wall Street strike any bells?) abide by the constitution (without the Bible), balance the budget, protect our shores, and that is about it.

Sarah baby, go for it. Your bible bashers, AK47 carriers, anti-intellectual want you. Go Baby Go!!

If I ever run on a platform that advocates shooting wolves from helicopters, I'll be sure to look to the SarahPac...

Sarah doesn't want to be President so much as she wants to replace Zsa Zsa Gabor as Queen from Outer Space – let's give her THAT tilte and maybe she'll keep quiet for a bit.

Sarah Palin is able to formulate ideas? When did this happen? Although, I suppose choosing between Coach, Prada, and Dolce & Gabbana makes for stimulating thought.

If the Republicans are looking to Sarah Palin then their party truly is lost. Sure she "energized" the base but beyond that she is still not the best choice. You have to get past the glitz , glamour and pretty face because that doesn't translate into good political prowess. And all that "but she was a governor so she's qualified" talk is just bunk. The last president was a former governor too and look how that worked out. Republicans should pick someone educated in law and with a higher political IQ if they want their party taken seriously by the majority of Americans. (reposted for grammatical errors. Sorry)

At the accelerated pace Obama is leading us into a depression..., Sarah needs to start now to try and help slow the decent, and progressively liberal decenters.

Go for it Palin! The democrats would love you to lead the GOP. It would guarantee 8 more years of their control of both houses and the White House. The only way you can see Russia from your house Sarah is climb up on that pile of Polar Bear "stuff" and face West on a very clear day.

Would someone please ask Larry Flynt to throw this bimbo a couple of million to do a centerfold in Hustler magazine? Poor, pathetic, needy, insider-wannabe Sarah is truly the Jennifer Aniston of politics, doing anything to get attention and keep herself in front of her moronic fan base.

This lady is a nut. If she doesn't highlight all that is hypocritical and emotionally unstable about Republicans, I don't know who does. I think she got a taste of the limelight and now she wants to be a celebrity. The problem is, she doesn't have what it takes in terms of intelligence to ever get any further than she has. In fact, if McCain hadn't been desperate to throw Obama off course by picking her, she wouldn't have gotten as far as she did. I wish CNN.com would quit running almost daily articles about her. I'm sick of seeing her name.

Palin will be a money maker for awhile since she has the "train wreck" quality that attracts the lookers to see if they will see any blood or gore or if she will say anything any more colossally stupid than she already has. Basically, people come out of curiosity and nothing more....I refuse to believe that this country contains as many non-thinking Republicans that it would take to elect her to any position other than the one she holds now. But who knows, maybe in the interim, she will go over one of her children's civics and geography books in an effort to become a little more knowledgeable than she is currently and come out with more to offer.

Funny. You think if she wanted to get ahead, she would focus on doing her job.
I guess Alaska can survive without a Governor, it's done so since at least August...
