Dems launch anti-Limbaugh petition

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/01/28/art.limbaugh.gi.jpg caption="Democrats are launching a petition against Limbaugh over his recent comments."]

(CNN) - In a bid to capitalize on Rush Limbaugh's recent comment that he hopes President Obama "fails," national Democrats launched a petition drive Wednesday taking direct aim at the conservative radio host.

"Jobs, health care, our place in the world - the stakes for our nation are high and every American needs President Obama to succeed," says the petition, sponsored by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. "Stand strong against Rush Limbaugh's Attacks - sign our petition, telling Rush what you think of his attacks on President Obama."

Limbaugh told listeners last week he sharply disagrees with Republicans who have said they hope Obama succeeds as president, and particularly expressed frustration over what he viewed as the "absorption of as much of the private sector by the US government as possible, from the banking business, to the mortgage industry, the automobile business, to health care."

"If I wanted Obama to succeed, I'd be happy the Republicans have laid down," Limbaugh said. "I hope he fails."

The comment sparked outrage in Democratic circles, while defenders of the remark said it was made purely in the context of Obama's economic polices.

Still, the DCCC petition not only provides an outlet for Democratic anger at Limbaugh, but also serves as a vehicle to gain names and e-mail addresses, presumably for later use in fundraising and organizing efforts.

The petition follows reports Obama warned GOP congressional leaders last week that they should stop listening to the conservative talker, prompting Limbaugh’s response that the new president is "frightened of me."

“He’s obviously more frightened of me than he is [Senate Minority Leader] Mitch McConnell,” Limbaugh told listeners Monday. “He’s more frightened of me, then he is of say, [House Minority Leader] John Boehner, which doesn’t say much about our party.”

People – It is important to understand that Rush is doing in this situation what anyone might do who finds that their opinions, beliefs or philosophy are no longer relevant. He is grasping for straws through the absurdity of his message(s) – anything to "shock and awe" the public in hopes that the limelight will remain on him. In these cases, it is always best just to walk away from such childish behavior – ignore it and Limbaugh will go away sooner. Again – his message of inciting hate and divisiveness is no longer relevant.

Democrats, don't give this man anymore air time. If we don't pay attention to him, then he's probably end up smoking crack or pushing drugs.. which I'm sorry to say either end up in jail.

It would be nice if the dumbocrats knew what they were talking about. Rush did not say that. Just more of the same, only more intense from the thugocracy. They are just filled with hate, not real bright. They are stimulating his listnership and that's great. The 3% margin should disapear faster. Dem's think the election was a mandate for socialism, they won't realize until its to late what it really was or what the real make up of the country is. They are letting ACORN and the unions fool them.

I will joyously sign that petition. I see oblivion in the horizon for Limbaugh. Free speech is a right we as Americans are "privileged" to have. Just because he can say it doesn't mean it should be said.

What ever happen to those federal drug charges? I mean if I sent my maid out to score some drugs I think I would still be in prison. Rush is pitfull and full of himself he cares only about his ratings and not about this country.

This is stupid. I can't stand Rush, but let the man exercise his Freedom of Speech rights. Stooping to his level to make a point makes the Dems look no better than the person they are after.

    Grow up people.

And I'm sure this egomanial hatemonger is just loving the publicity.

The Dems need to take a page from the wingnut book – look at what they did to the Dixie Chicks way back when. Boycott the radio stations and their advertisers who carry this hypocritical windbag. Force him to Sirius or something that people can't afford to subscribe to anyway....

We should just totally ignore Limbaugh. He is an unscrupulous headline grabber and enjoys all attention, regardless of negative response to his unAmerican remarks.
Anyone who gives him any creditibility does not deserve attention,
only pity. Including politicians as they will no longer be come next
    elections.

  17. Balance

Limbaugh is a washed-up hypocritical old man who is desperate to make "controversial" statements to get his name back in the news.

His views and opinions genuinely don't matter. To anyone.

Just ignore him, and he'll go away.

A petition is a usually a request to change something – what exactly is the purpose of this petition? The only purpose appears to be to give liberals a chance to vent their anger and the DCCC a chance to gather contact info on hordes of mindless lemmings.

Yes, Rush Limbaugh consistently shows the degree of his intellect.....his self-centeredness insipres awe, that he could think so much of himself that the President must be afraid of him....
I generally regard any attacks Rush makes on anything as a reason to embrace those ideals.......all this talk show comedian does is attack things without offering any solutions of his own. You wonder why he never made it to a TV show??
Rush, you are NOTHING to be afraid of.......unless someone actually elected you to something.....you are a tiny voice against a progressive wind.

Where do I sign this petition? This man is a nut case and needs to go away. To come right out and state that he hopes President Obama fails is like a terrorist attack on the American people.

    Sign me up!

This guy is a consistent idiot. All Rush is about is divisiveness and nothing more. It is ok to disagree. Disagreeing brings discussion, ideas and balance. But to hope that the President fails, means that th e country fails. I am surprised that he is even still relevant. After all isn't this the same guy with a prescription drug problem!
