Dems launch anti-Limbaugh petition

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/01/28/art.limbaugh.gi.jpg caption="Democrats are launching a petition against Limbaugh over his recent comments."]

(CNN) - In a bid to capitalize on Rush Limbaugh's recent comment that he hopes President Obama "fails," national Democrats launched a petition drive Wednesday taking direct aim at the conservative radio host.

"Jobs, health care, our place in the world - the stakes for our nation are high and every American needs President Obama to succeed," says the petition, sponsored by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. "Stand strong against Rush Limbaugh's Attacks - sign our petition, telling Rush what you think of his attacks on President Obama."

Limbaugh told listeners last week he sharply disagrees with Republicans who have said they hope Obama succeeds as president, and particularly expressed frustration over what he viewed as the "absorption of as much of the private sector by the US government as possible, from the banking business, to the mortgage industry, the automobile business, to health care."

"If I wanted Obama to succeed, I'd be happy the Republicans have laid down," Limbaugh said. "I hope he fails."

The comment sparked outrage in Democratic circles, while defenders of the remark said it was made purely in the context of Obama's economic polices.

Still, the DCCC petition not only provides an outlet for Democratic anger at Limbaugh, but also serves as a vehicle to gain names and e-mail addresses, presumably for later use in fundraising and organizing efforts.

The petition follows reports Obama warned GOP congressional leaders last week that they should stop listening to the conservative talker, prompting Limbaugh’s response that the new president is "frightened of me."

“He’s obviously more frightened of me than he is [Senate Minority Leader] Mitch McConnell,” Limbaugh told listeners Monday. “He’s more frightened of me, then he is of say, [House Minority Leader] John Boehner, which doesn’t say much about our party.”

Bad move dems, all publicity is good publicity for Limbaugh and his mindless group of listeners. Acknowledging his existence makes him that much more important. Better to just ignore the pathetic, draft-dodging, drug addicted tub of goo and let him slither away.

I think it is awful that someone who has such a huge audience can say that he hopes our president "fails". Well I hope he fails and is kicked off the air and no longer allowed to spew his nonsence anymore!! But I don't think that his comments will make his audience larger, I think that it will make it smaller...:):)

How stupid and how childish. Democrats, Republicans and Limbaugh all need to get along. This type of confrontation is a waste of everybody's time!

I hope Obama's socialist economic policies fail as well. Well done, Rush. Don't let free market principles go down without a fight. Take your petition and stick it, Dems!

Maybe Rush can afford for Obama to fail as he has made milions selling his hate. But as I just lost my job, I can't affort for Obama to fail. My family and I need this to be successful.

Rush has totally lost all touch of reality and is a cold and heartless person if he wants our country to fail because he is bitter and angry.

If Rush is the voice for the Republican party, they should have no problem seeing why they lost power.

As many parents soon come to realize, the best way to stop bad behaivor in a child is to ignore it. Like a fire deprived of oxygen, bad behaivor deprived of attention will cease due to lack of necessary sustenance. It stands to reason therefore, that Rush Limbaugh, who more often than not, behaves like a petulant child, is best ignored. With luck, he will take his oxycotin prescription and just go away.

Rush Limbaugh, the loser who flunked out of a none ranking college?

Intelligent and educated citizens will not drink Limbaugh's kool aid.

This is a delusional individual who is desparately trying "to be somebody". He is paid a lot of money to cause the controversies the elected GOP officials don't want to bring out themselves. Since it became obvious to certain GOP elected officials how much Rush wanted to be "somebody", they threw him a bone and he went for it. They figured, there are probably millions out there who is like Rush! LOL They were right. Rush Limbaugh is some people's favorite red drink! It's costing the GOP, but they need someone to start the controversy and "I know I'm better" Rush is willing to do anything to "belong".

Democrats are on their way toward stamping out all dissent!! Off to re-education camps for Limbaugh listeners!

This is where we are sliding with the support of the leftist media.

I hope Obama fails also. GO RUSH!!!! Obama has so much on his agenda that I feel is bad for America. I am not in some kind of hypnotic state produced by the mainstream media. I mean come on, our nation is in such a deep financial recession and yet one of President Obama's first concerns is to spend our money so people across the world can have an abortion. I also can not beleive that we have made a tax cheat the head of the IRS and Treasury. I hope people stop paying thier taxes, because if it works for Geitner than why not everyone. Oh and he paid no penalties so I think everyone who owes taxes should not pay any penalties. Obama is going to become the WORST president we have ever had. And it is pretty tough to beat Jimmy Carter.

Freedom of speech is at the very core of our great Democracy and we should never ever forget that. Having said that, it just seems to me that Rush is extremely insenstive to people of color and women. It's hard to believe that some of the things, some of the music beds he uses and flippant accents he uses don't come under fire the way you would think they would in 2009. Am I the only person who took offense to the music clip, "moving on up-to the east side" a few weeks ago with regards to the new President? I am not a prude and consider my self in the middle when it comes to Politics but when I listen to Rush I can't help but feel he is a hateful man who believes he has become more important than those he talks about. If he really does know better than why not seek public service work–why not seek out public office instead of earning a very nice living throwing rock after rock after rock. Nobody can be that bitter about life in America and those who have already answered the call. I prefer the kinder–gentler National talk show host. Give me a fair debate on the issues daily without the anger and name calling!

This has got to stop, the man just got in the White House and this man is trying to cause him problems already. Where was he when Bush was ambushing the Country and taking away our freedoms. He wants to keep the hate going in this country when President Obama want to heal the country. I am going to pray to God for Rush Limbaugh. May God have mercy on soul and remove the hatred from his speech. The day after election a white man killed 3 innocent black people. I guess he was a Limbaugh listener.
