Dems launch anti-Limbaugh petition

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/01/28/art.limbaugh.gi.jpg caption="Democrats are launching a petition against Limbaugh over his recent comments."]

(CNN) - In a bid to capitalize on Rush Limbaugh's recent comment that he hopes President Obama "fails," national Democrats launched a petition drive Wednesday taking direct aim at the conservative radio host.

"Jobs, health care, our place in the world - the stakes for our nation are high and every American needs President Obama to succeed," says the petition, sponsored by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. "Stand strong against Rush Limbaugh's Attacks - sign our petition, telling Rush what you think of his attacks on President Obama."

Limbaugh told listeners last week he sharply disagrees with Republicans who have said they hope Obama succeeds as president, and particularly expressed frustration over what he viewed as the "absorption of as much of the private sector by the US government as possible, from the banking business, to the mortgage industry, the automobile business, to health care."

"If I wanted Obama to succeed, I'd be happy the Republicans have laid down," Limbaugh said. "I hope he fails."

The comment sparked outrage in Democratic circles, while defenders of the remark said it was made purely in the context of Obama's economic polices.

Still, the DCCC petition not only provides an outlet for Democratic anger at Limbaugh, but also serves as a vehicle to gain names and e-mail addresses, presumably for later use in fundraising and organizing efforts.

The petition follows reports Obama warned GOP congressional leaders last week that they should stop listening to the conservative talker, prompting Limbaugh’s response that the new president is "frightened of me."

“He’s obviously more frightened of me than he is [Senate Minority Leader] Mitch McConnell,” Limbaugh told listeners Monday. “He’s more frightened of me, then he is of say, [House Minority Leader] John Boehner, which doesn’t say much about our party.”

The quote was taken out of context. This kills me that the Liberals want freedom of speech just as long as it doesn't go against their beliefs.

I'll sign that petition in a Heartbeat !
Limbaugh is way beyond being an IDIOT !
George W. Bush and his Republican party (what's left of them that are not injail or have charges against them) are DIRECTLY responsible for the economic devestation of the United States and the world in general.
Limbaugh lost his hearing, too bad it wasn't his vocal chords and the right to speech.
Sign Off Rush, you're a has been !

Why is it that Dems can call Bush 'Hitler' and rail against a president like nothing I have ever seen, but a leading conservative voice cannot say he hopes Obama's socialist policies (in his view) fails. Someone needs to go back and read the first amendment and let people say whatever is on their mind. Not everyone agrees with Obama's policies? Are we not allowed to feel that way now? Makes me sick.

The best possible response to Limbaugh would be for everyone to totally ignore him. If he got no attention and no one reacted to anything he said and the media never mentioned him again, he would be irrelevant. This petition, like the several articles written lately, are merely rewards for his bad behavior. Ignore him and he'll go away.

barak obama or anyone else is not afraid of you. how can anyone put any faith in what you say? all i see in your statement is that you are one
plus sized ego-maniac. you talk, people listen and then forget what you said. i really think the jerry springer show presents a much more positive
statement than your show. you are one sad human being and much worse, you are actually being paid for what you say and do. SAD! people
really don't have to sign petitions. all they have to do is not listen to your show. if your ratings go low enough, your show will be canceled.

Please don't report any news on Limbaugh, it just gives him more fuel to go on his crazy rants. The media needs to stop focusing on Limbaugh, Coulter and Hannity, they are in their own delusional worlds.

I hope is agenda fails as well... can there be no differing opinion? Typical liberal media spin – Chubby is referring to Obama's socialist agenda, not his presidency!

As much as I despise Rush Limbaugh and think that he and others like him are trying to divide America(ns) and wonder why anyone in their right minds (no pun intended) would listen to someone who has rarely succeeded at anything in his life, including graduating from high school, I DON'T think Democrats should petition against him. He has the right to free speech. Not everyone likes what he has to say but we don't have to listen to him. Eventually, I'm hoping, Republicans and Democrats will finally see that Limbaugh, Colter, Hannity, etc. are trying to keep this nation in turmoil and will tune them out. This country needs to come together to solve our problems - it doesn't matter who is in office - and for Limbaugh and company to continually drag this country through the mud I believe is unpatriotic at the very least.
I say leave the jerk alone. He doesn't need the publicity.

These are the hardest times I've been through, as a 33yr. plumber , I have to admit that I have never had to "stay home" or work for free,
    Even during Carter I worked,
I've been telling my friends for years that the politicians don't even have to be great , the pols could get on just fine by being honest.
This country in all honesty would be paying dividends instead of collecting taxes (Timmothy Leary on Illinois at Georges in the late 70's or early 80's)
This is how a real plumber succedes.

Rush is niether honest or a real plumber, why give him a stage any longer?

WHY!???? Why give this guy anymore publicity?? His nonsense appeals to a certain group of people... so let him. The rest of us can do the smarter choice. Not listen or pay attention.. By sigining a petition you think this is going to force him to change??? Or only make him feel more important???

A petition to do what? Look, I find Limbaugh a disgusting excuse for a lifeform, but unless the petition is trying to have something happen, such as him being required to wear a muzzle for the rest of his life, this seems like a giant waste of time to me.
