Dems launch anti-Limbaugh petition

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/01/28/art.limbaugh.gi.jpg caption="Democrats are launching a petition against Limbaugh over his recent comments."]

(CNN) - In a bid to capitalize on Rush Limbaugh's recent comment that he hopes President Obama "fails," national Democrats launched a petition drive Wednesday taking direct aim at the conservative radio host.

"Jobs, health care, our place in the world - the stakes for our nation are high and every American needs President Obama to succeed," says the petition, sponsored by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. "Stand strong against Rush Limbaugh's Attacks - sign our petition, telling Rush what you think of his attacks on President Obama."

Limbaugh told listeners last week he sharply disagrees with Republicans who have said they hope Obama succeeds as president, and particularly expressed frustration over what he viewed as the "absorption of as much of the private sector by the US government as possible, from the banking business, to the mortgage industry, the automobile business, to health care."

"If I wanted Obama to succeed, I'd be happy the Republicans have laid down," Limbaugh said. "I hope he fails."

The comment sparked outrage in Democratic circles, while defenders of the remark said it was made purely in the context of Obama's economic polices.

Still, the DCCC petition not only provides an outlet for Democratic anger at Limbaugh, but also serves as a vehicle to gain names and e-mail addresses, presumably for later use in fundraising and organizing efforts.

The petition follows reports Obama warned GOP congressional leaders last week that they should stop listening to the conservative talker, prompting Limbaugh’s response that the new president is "frightened of me."

“He’s obviously more frightened of me than he is [Senate Minority Leader] Mitch McConnell,” Limbaugh told listeners Monday. “He’s more frightened of me, then he is of say, [House Minority Leader] John Boehner, which doesn’t say much about our party.”

If Rush is all that's left of the right-side wingnuts then good.

Sadly, all of his gas won't ease the world's energy bind.

Maybe the old boy could get together with Sarah Palin and they could create their own reality show... America's Next President. Not.

Rush should just stop already. Now is not the time to set the President up for failure. Now is the time to support him and set him up for success. His successes or failures will affect everyone.

This is STILL a free country, as far as I know-I love listening to Rush-he's our only hope against the socialistic government Barack Hussein Obama is trying to impose. This country should be up in arms-he said get rid of crooks in our government and now ones the head of the Treasury-go figure! The billions or trillons he is going to spend of OUR money will not, and has not been used to save this economy.

Drug addicts are always scary. Especially if they are given a national stage to express their drug-induced hallucinations. No one should be giving this guy the time of day, let alone national attention. It's just not right.

Does Rush Limbaugh still have a following? I never thought he was very intelligent anyway, but now that he's proven it to right and left alike. He has such a narrow/simple mind that he doesn't realize that if President Obama fails, so does the nation. Hence, he wished that the nation would fail. He's never been a bright bulb, but to wish more misery on the nation he claims to love so much proves he's not really the patriot he wants everyone to believe he is. He's a recovering drug addict, and I hope he wasn't back-sliding when he made that comment.

What a horrible thing to say, to want the President to fail. I want our country strong and vibrant again. That's why I voted for him in the first place. I want change we really can believe in. People who spew hatred are not patriotic and have no regard for the failing economy or people struggling to survive.

Russ Limbaugh depends on controversy and extreme statements to get attention and excite people; for him it is all about ratings. Those who allow him to lead them around by their emotions just don't get it. For years he has proven that his opinions and positions leave much to be desired yet he continues to hook people in. He isn't worth the effort or time!

Isn't this still a free country, the man has a right to his opinions. This is just the beginning for all of us, first they bash him, then they will ban him from the airwaves. Where does this government control stop?!? Im turning my radio on right now to hear what Rush says in response.

Obama and his muslim buddies will destroy this country.

Mr. Limbaugh said something to the effect that, if Mr. Obama was to turn the US in a socialist direction, he would want him to fail. Well, many Americans would agree with that statement. The attacks are not justified.

Does anyone have a list of Limbaugh advertisers? I am going to make sure that I don't buy anything from companies that support this un-American bigot.

I hope Socialism fails too. Obama's policies is what we have fought against in Vietnam, Korea, Russia...
America needs to understand history. Obama's policies will bankrupt our nation and devalue the dollar to a point of no return. We need to listen to Ron Paul.

I sincerely hope Obama and his family enjoy health happiness, and long lives.

I also sincerely hope Obama's socialist plans are met with complete and total rejection and failure. This country has achieved her greatness based on capitalism, which Obama intends to constrain.

Limbaugh is the one who is frightened...frightened that the new president might actually succeed in helping our nation turn the corner on the hard times that are affecting so many of us.

If the tide turns, then all Rush's conservative blather, pessimism, and egomaniacal rants won't be worth a bucket of spit. He will be standing on the lonely side of history.

In truth, Limbaugh is the one who's shaking in his fat-man's pants.

It is sad to see people so nasty that they wish for another man's failure, is this what Amaerica and the American spirit is all about?
America is in a deep crisis, worse than ever before, instead of putting differences aside, this man is out to put the president down. He should be ashamed to call himself an American. This is not what American do, or represent to the world.

Why is it that Dems can call Bush 'Hitler' and rail against a president like nothing I have ever seen, but a leading conservative voice cannot say he hopes Obama's socialist policies (in his view) fails. Someone needs to go back and read the first amendment and let people say whatever is on their mind. Not everyone agrees with Obama's policies? Are we not allowed to feel that way now? Makes me sick.

I think petitioning him will backfire. Even though he's a complete idiot, and total waste of space, the man has a right to speak his mind. In the minds of his fellow idiots, petitioning him may add credence to what he said and put him in the spotlight even more - which is what he wants.

Rush is right on! For Obama to succeed under his current ideologies means we become a socialist country and the entitlements will be like a runaway train. I'm sure Rush would like to see Obama succeed under a more centralized, capitalist agenda, not with an overbearing government. Ask yourself this: what does the govt do right, other than provide the best military in the world?

I'm with Rush. Do we really want the govt to nationalize healthcare and micromanage the private sector? Its very unrealistic of democrats to think we can be on this trajectory to socialism and not expect that sooner or later, it will necessitate the compromise of some of our rights and freedoms.

Even reporting what this guy says is an insult to everyone's intelligence. He never cares nor thinks about any repercussions because he is making money off the weak minded and doesn't care about anything. You see Rush was once a liberal but became conservative because of the money. A stiff wind will blow his brains out!!!
